6. What have I
learned?
By doing some basic research, I have found a series of conventions
that surround to noir genre, making it easily identifiable and simple
to recreate.
The character of the detective is often morally questionable,
sometimes even possessing a quirk that sets him aside from others.
Bad habits usually plague this mainly male character and tend to
come at the detriment to his work. It’s likely he will be slick and
smooth, yet easily riled, the whole time internally monologuing the
whole time. I will try to emulate this through dialogue, costuming
and plot
The villain is usually sharply dressed, conniving, smart, psychotic,
aggressive and with some sort of complex. He will likely have some
sort of cunning scheme and be the bane of the detectives existence
with the possibility of a link to the detective shady past.
The femme fatale is rarely the main protagonist or villain, but can
lean to the side of either. She is often represented sexually, aided by
minimal clothing, reds and movements. Often they are
manipulative and shady, having some form of control over the
detective.
