This letter conveys appreciation from the Secretary to the Government of NWFP Food, Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperation Department for Dr. Najmul-Hasnain Shah's discovery about the virulence of H.S. bacteria. The discovery explains why these bacteria are not removed from blood and tissues by the immune system. ABSTRACT- The biochemical and histopathological changes in rats experimentally infected with T. evansi isolated from camels in El-Gadarif State, Sudan, were studied. A number of 18 adult male outbred albino rats, weighing between 133-137g were used in the study. The rats were divided into 3 groups of 6 animals each (A,B and E). Group A and B were intraperitoneally infected with T. evansi (Showak stabilate) with 1×104 trypanosoma for the inoculum. Group B was given quinapyramine sulphate (20 mg/kg bwt) after parasitaemia was evident. Group E was left healthy uninfected controls for the stabilate. There was significant reduction in serum glucose and phosphorus; compared to significant increase in Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase (GOT), Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase (GPT) and total protein in groups (A and B). Microscopically, the brain tissues of the infected rats revealed acute congestion of the meningeal capillaries, perivascular oedema, neuronecrosis (vaculation), gliosis and trypomastigotes in dilated capillaries. The lung revealed oedema, congestion, multifocal alveolar emphysema, hyperplasia of the peri-bronchiolar lymphoid tissues and haemorrhages. The spleen showed extensive haemorrhages, haemosiderosis and aggregation of histiocytes resulting in multinuclear giant cells formation. The kidneys showed acute congestion of the glomerular tufts. All tissues obtained showed exactly the same histopathological changes. No significant histopathological alterations were observed in the liver and heart. The most consistent histopathological changes were seen in the brain, lungs, spleen and kidneys. These changes were consistent with trypanosome infection and were confirmed by the presence of trypanosomes in most of the tissue sections examined.

A total of 1420 serum samples were collected from sheep and goats in various areas and tested using c-ELISA. The overall seroprevalence was found to be 69.1% in sheep and 60.53% in goats. This study evaluated 84 patients diagnosed with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) to assess the ability of physicians to detect the condition through clinical examination compared to sonography and barium studies. The olive sign was detected in only 13 patients (15.5%) on clinical examination. Sonography revealed HPS in 71 of 81 patients (87.7%), while barium studies found HPS in 16 of 21 patients (76.2%). Sonography was significantly more accurate at detecting HPS than clinical examination. Due to the difficulty examining crying infants and increased availability of imaging, physicians' skills at detecting the olive sign through physical examination are declining, leading to underutilization of this important diagnostic tool.

A 49-year-old female presented with right upper quadrant pain and was found to have multiple gallbladder polyps on ultrasound. She underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Histopathology revealed the polyps were benign. Gallbladder polyps can present ambiguously with biliary colic-like pain. While polyps larger than 1 cm or in patients over 50 increase malignancy risk, the relationship between polyp number and risk is still unclear. Treatment depends on polyp size, with observation for polyps under 6 mm and cholecystectomy for larger polyps.

1) Twelve fetal lambs were studied before and after their mothers were given either green tea or water for one week. 2) Echocardiography after one week showed signs of ductal constriction in all lambs whose mothers drank green tea, including increased ductal velocities and right ventricular enlargement. 3) Autopsies also showed enlarged and thickened right ventricles in lambs exposed to green tea compared to controls. Seroprevalence of measles IgG antibody
This document describes a study on the seroprevalence of measles IgG antibody in children in Bannu district, Pakistan. The olive sign was detected in only 13 patients (15.5%) on clinical examination. Sonography revealed HPS in 71 of 81 patients (87.7%), while barium studies found HPS in 16 of 21 patients (76.2%). Sonography was significantly more accurate at detecting HPS than clinical examination. Due to the difficulty examining crying infants and increased availability of imaging, physicians' skills at detecting the olive sign through physical examination are declining, leading to underutilization of this important diagnostic tool.

A 49-year-old female presented with right upper quadrant pain and was found to have multiple gallbladder polyps on ultrasound. She underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Histopathology revealed the polyps were benign. Gallbladder polyps can present ambiguously with biliary colic-like pain. While polyps larger than 1 cm or in patients over 50 increase malignancy risk, the relationship between polyp number and risk is still unclear. Treatment depends on polyp size, with observation for polyps under 6 mm and cholecystectomy for larger polyps.

Green tea prenatal diagnosis
1) Twelve fetal lambs were studied before and after their mothers were given either green tea or water for one week. 2) Echocardiography after one week showed signs of ductal constriction in all lambs whose mothers drank green tea, including increased ductal velocities and right ventricular enlargement. 3) Autopsies also showed enlarged and thickened right ventricles in lambs exposed to green tea compared to controls. Histology found the ductal medial avascular zone was significantly thicker in green tea lambs versus controls, indicating ductal constriction.

Seroprevalence of measles IgG antibody
This document describes a study on the seroprevalence of measles IgG antibody in children in Bannu district, Pakistan.
