3. How They Form.
● Waterfalls form when melt water drops over the
edge of a tabular iceberg or ice shelf.
● Waterfalls are commonly formed when a river is
young.
● As the watercourse increases its velocity at the edge
of the waterfall, it takes material from the riverbed.
● Often over time, the waterfall will recede back to
form a gorge downstream as it recedes upstream,
and it will carve deeper into the ridge above it.
4. What w erf al l s do.
at do
● Waterfalls pick up rocks from the ground and drops
them at the bottom of the waterfall and then that forms
a fan.
● They also cause death for people, because sometimes
people slip or fall down the waterfall and when they fall
they die at the bottom.
● Waterfalls are like sandpaper to the base (floor). They
scrape off the layer of for example rock. Very slowly the
water (rushing down from the top of the waterfall)
scrapes off the base of the rock. The base gets smaller
and smaller until there is nothing left.
