6. ABOUT US
We’re James and Joanne, the Professional Chairs
of Berkeley ABA and two of the four who
will be leading Nexus. Collectively, we’ve had
experience with different networking dinners as
well as working with various companies to hold
collaborative events.
Once the fall semester starts at UC Berkeley,
we select eight committee members through
a rigorous interview process. The Professional
Committee typically selects eight students out
of 120+ applicants, and this selectively ensures a
committee of diverse, qualified, intelligent, and
well-rounded students.
Together with our committee, the two of us will
direct and facilitate their work, assigning tasks
and deadlines. In addition, our mentors will be
overlooking the process, teaching vital skills that
our committee members may lack and ensuring
a successful networking dinner.
We’re Kenny and Emily, the Professional
Development Chairs of PBL and two of the four
who will be leading Nexus.
As the Professional Development Chairs, we
will be mentoring six individuals throughout
the semester. We focus on developing a holistic
profile by providing workshops on key topics
such as resumes, interviews, and cover letters;
opportunities to explore various careers and
network with alumni mentors; and a walk-
through of the full recruitment process using
tools such as LinkedIn.
We believe in bringing diverse individuals
together to develop a special network for the
development of PBL. Further, we hope to involve
the larger Berkeley community in networking
with professionals and other highly motivated
students through this networking dinner.
