- 1. Newspaper ideas report I have decided that my newspaper will be targeted at an older educated audience and therefore won’t be a tabloid like the sun. I have chosen to use a natural disaster story as my main headline on the front page as this would be an important story in the news, the natural disaster will be a local storm which has hit Manchester and caused damage, the story will include an image of a fallen down tree in a local garden. Another story I will include will be a crime story with the headline ‘Wanted man’ and include a small story explaining that the man is wanted for burglary and will include an image of his face. Another story I have chosen is a dogs trust article which will have the headline ‘A dog is for life not just for Christmas’ as it is nearly Christmas and will be explaining to the public how many dogs get left after Christmas and will include statistics and images of dogs which I will take. Another story I will include will be a story about the football team Manchester United as they are iconic for Manchester, this will not include an image but will explain how well the team are doing and how they might be getting a new coach. The last story I will include will be the main story on the second page and will be about a local old woman who has won the lottery, this will include and image of the woman smiling and quotes from her about what she will be doing with the money. The layout of my newspaper will be formal and will include a large masthead at the top of the page with the date written in small text underneath. Then the page will be broken up into different sections for different stories and will include some images, the front cover and the second page will both include one large image for the main story with small images surrounding the other stories. The front page will also include small sections of the stories which will be included inside the newspaper. The house style will be mostly black and white as the newspaper will have a white background and the text will be black and some headlines may use colour for the background. The tone of my newspaper will be formal as it’s not a tabloid but instead an informative newspaper targeted at educated people, the headlines on my newspaper will be thought provoking and not humorous as the stories are serious. I intend to use the Guttenberg principle on my newspaper and also rule of thirds on my images; I will use the Guttenberg principle by placing the masthead in the primary optical area and the least important information such as advertisements in the weak fallow area. I will take a number of pictures for my newspaper, I will take an image of a tree that has fell down in my neighbours back garden for the natural disaster story, then for the dogs trust story I will take images of my dogs and my family’s dogs. Then for the crime story I will take an image of a man’s face and for the lottery story take an image of an elderly family member smiling. When editing my images I will use the crop tool and enhance my images by using contrast, I will keep the editing and image manipulation simple as this is conventional for newspapers. The iconography that will be included in my newspaper will be the story about Manchester united as the city of Manchester is iconic for its two football teams and also the woman winning the lottery will be from Manchester.
