Public Health Structure
Government is able to monitor the population’s health and intervene when necessary through laws, policies, regulations, and expenditure of the resources necessary for the health and safety of the public.
The federal government acts in six areas related to pubic health:
(1) policy making, (2) financing,
(3) public health protection,
(4) collecting and disseminating information about U.S. health and health care delivery systems,
(5) capacity building for population health, and (6) direct management of services (Boufford and Lee, 2001).
National Structure
It helps millions of Americans understand, manage, and gain control over their asthma.
Build and sustain asthma control programs in 34 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
• Support national and state asthma surveillance systems.
• Improve asthma management in schools across the country.
• Evaluate programs to identify and share best practices.
• Target interventions to populations and communities disproportionately affected by asthma.
• Share CDC expertise with state and local public health practitioners.
• Fund over 120 positions in health departments nationwide and support more than 160 contracts for asthma services created by the Program.

State Structure
State asthma programs are implemented starting in school-based settings for asthma interventions due to their ability as follows:
1) use statewide surveillance data to identify asthma trends and address disparities; 2) facilitate connections between schools, school systems, and school-related community stakeholders; 3) form state-level connections; 4) translate policies to action; 5) provide resources and public health practice information to schools and school systems; 6) monitor and evaluate implementation.
Federal, State and Local Health officials can:
· Track asthma rates and effectiveness of control measures so continuous improvements can be made in prevention efforts.
· Promote Influenza and pneumonia vaccinations for people with Asthma.
· Promote improvements in indoor air quality for people with asthma through measures such as smoke free air laws and policies, healthy schools and workplaces, improvements in outdoor air quality too.
Health care providers can:
· Determine the severity of asthma and monitor how much control the patient has over it. Make an asthma action plan for patients. Prescribed medication and teach them how to use inhalers.
