ArcelorMittal Dofasco Volunteer Day
1. V-Day Contest Winner #1 Carol Casanas – “I volunteer with the 58th Hamilton Scouts as a Beaver Scout leader. We help the kids learn about their environment and nature and how to help take care of it and the people around them. The Beaver Motto is "Sharing, Sharing, Sharing!" and these kids are AWESOME at it! In the picture are our Cub Scouts and Beaver Scouts at a combined meeting, the leaders are myself Carol, Ruth and Kim.”
2. V-Day Contest Winner #2 “ My name is Marty Fitzpatrick and I volunteer as trainer /coach with the Stoney Creek AA Peewee hockey team. I'm the only one wearing a hat because it's cold on the bench. I also volunteered at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.”
3. Chris Cooper of the Caledonia Lions Club has always had a Pay It Forward” attitude so when he found out that most donations to the Food Bank happen at Easter or Christmas, he decided to organize a food drive to offset shortage times in the spring. Cooper organized a food drive that takes place every year on or around Mother’s Day.
4. Dave Campbell – “Responding to resident complaints of excessive speed in residential areas, the Hamilton Auxiliary Police can monitor and record the actual speed motorists are traveling in their neighborhood. Motorists in serious violation of the speed limit are recorded and a report is given to the Hamilton Police, who in turn may send a cautionary letter or visit the violator.”
5. David Rogerson – “I volunteer as a 3rd Degree Knight at the Knights of Columbus Council 1454 here in Hamilton. I'm the treasurer and beverage chairperson. We sponsor several events every year to support many charities. We just finished our annual turkey roll raising just over $2000 for the Salvation Army.”
6. “ My name is Doug Muir and since I was 7 I have been playing the drums in the Dundas pipe band. In the past 6 years, I have taken my knowledge of drumming to the community by teaching students of all ages how to play the drums every Sunday and Wednesday. I am also involved in community parades and other events the band does to support the town.”
7. Donna Arnold - “On Saturday November 6, 2010 I had the privilege of volunteering with many ArcelorMittal Dofasco handymen and women at the Habitat for Humanity Build Day - Robert Land Project. I was expecting that my efforts might be well suited for sandwich and coffee making and serving. Not so apparently. The attached photo shows Nancy and I installing a fire wall - one of many new tasks undertaken. I enjoyed my day in work boots and left with several new skills at hand.”
8. Dave MacIsaac (4th from the left at the back) and Glenn Hillis (far right) are basketball Coaches with Blessed Sacrament. They have been coaching for over 10 years. This picture is after their team won the Ontario Basketball Championship in May 2010 for the 2nd consecutive year. Their team also won the Eastern Canadian Championships in June of 2009.
9. Kathleen Owen - “I am an aspiring country music artist and love to perform. In this photo I am volunteering as one of the featured artists for a breast cancer fundraiser concert, in London, ON.
