ECO 500 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of an economic analysis recommendation paper.
This course is an integral part of your journey toward a better understanding of the economy and of how the business you work for fits into it. The manager who
excels at his or her job is able to make the connection between general theory and specific application. Your final project provides you with the opportunity to
practice and develop these skills. In this course, you will learn about economic principles—supply and demand, production and costs, market structures—and see
how they apply to real-world situations. You will also learn about economic forecasting and tools used in strategic decision making. Being able to see the big
picture and having the skills of economic analysis will help you become more effective as a manager. Although there are several general principles that hold in
most organizations, such as trade-offs in the use of resources and customer budget constraints, the circumstances in which these principles apply are unique.
In this project, you will take on the role of an economic analyst at a company. An executive at the company has asked you to research an issue that affects your
organization and recommend a solution. Choose from one of the case studies listed below and research a given issue that affects the organization, determine the
issue’s relationship to economics, and report on your analysis and recommendation. This assessment requires you to understand the big-picture context of a
question, narrow down to a specific statement or set of statements to research, and present your findings.
You may encounter additional companies\case studies within your ECO 500 Case Study CoursePack. However, please disregard them and ONLY focus on the
following:
- American Airlines
- Microsoft Corporation
- Heinz Corporation
The project is divided into three milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final
submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Three, Five, and Seven. The final product will be submitted in Module Nine.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
Apply economic theory to real-world problems facing organizations for identifying relationships and root causes
Recommend appropriate economic solutions to business problems for promoting organizational goals
Translate economic principles and findings effectively to diverse professional audiences for promoting informed decision making

Improving Workplace Safety Performance in Malaysian SMEs: The Role of Safety ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: In the Malaysian context, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) experience a significant
burden of workplace accidents. A consensus among scholars attributes a substantial portion of these incidents to
human factors, particularly unsafe behaviors. This study, conducted in Malaysia's northern region, specifically
targeted Safety and Health/Human Resource professionals within the manufacturing sector of SMEs. We
gathered a robust dataset comprising 107 responses through a meticulously designed self-administered
questionnaire. Employing advanced partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques
with SmartPLS 3.2.9, we rigorously analyzed the data to scrutinize the intricate relationship between safety
behavior and safety performance. The research findings unequivocally underscore the palpable and
consequential impact of safety behavior variables, namely safety compliance and safety participation, on
improving safety performance indicators such as accidents, injuries, and property damages. These results
strongly validate research hypotheses. Consequently, this study highlights the pivotal significance of cultivating
safety behavior among employees, particularly in resource-constrained SME settings, as an essential step toward
enhancing workplace safety performance.

How to Choose Your PR Dashboard from PR News
Your Task
Using Meltwater, you will create a custom dashboard to analyze your company’s news media coverage against those of
your top three competitors. Then, you will generate an analysis report based on the data you find.
Some key decisions you need to make:
Who are your top three competitors?
o Decide: do you want to build your dashboard around the company names or the top company product?
What time frame is best for your dashboard?
o Monthly, quarterly, the year thus far?
o Key announcements?
What data points (widgets) are most important to include in your dashboard?
Set up Meltwater for Data Retrieval
Create separate saved searchesfor each company or product.
Make sure each search is using the correct time frame.
Create a Benchmark Dashboard.
o Meltwater’s default widgets are: Share of Voice, Media Exposure, Sentiment.
o You’ll need to decide the 6 most important data points to include in your dashboard.
Note: feel free to create other dashboards as well; such as Monitor or Analyze.
Generate a Dashboard Analysis Report
Export your dashboard from Meltwater.
Write an analysis report including the following:
o Introduction: set the context for your dashboard report by identifying and explaining the key decisions
you made. Be certain to provide quantitative data to justify the selection of your competitors. Further,
include this key overview information for each company:
Total number of news media hits secured during the time frame you specified.
One “best hit” including the logo of the news organization and a direct quote from the article
highlighting the best content. Example:
2. Debra Johnson
Email: dejohnson@csuchico.edu
Twitter: DebraJChico
o Data Analysis: Export the information graphics from Meltwater to include in your report. Then, explain
what you believe the Meltwater data tells you about the news media coverage these companies have
received.
For example, one logical question is which company is doing the best overall in news media
coverage and how do you know this?
But, you’ll also want to explain the results of each data point (widget) you selected and provide
key insight for why the data ended up as it did. This means you’ll have to dive into some of the
specific news media coverage the data is built upon.
o Provide Recommendations:
Provide a minimum of three specific recommendations for improving the news media coverage
performance for your company.
Note: you’re welcome to form these recommendations based on all saved Meltwater searches and
all dashboards you’ve created.
Grading Insight: 50 points
You will be evaluated in the following areas:
5 points: Introduction clarity.
20 points: Completeness of the data analysis.
15 points: Recommendations to improve media relations. Clarity, logic, strategic thinking and supporting
evidence.
10 points: Mechanics & Layout:
o Spelling, grammar, punctuation, AP Style, etc.
o The overall look and feelof the document: does it have a layout that is easy to move through and visually
pleasing.
