Heavy rains and floods in Central Java, Indonesia triggered landslides that killed 35 people. Sutopo Nugroho of the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency reported that 31 people died in landslides while 4 others died in flooding. An additional 25 people are still missing. Most of the landslides and flooding occurred in the Purworejo subdistrict where 11 people died. Officials and aid workers joined forces to rescue and evacuate residents from affected areas. Nugroho attributed the extreme weather to warm sea temperatures and moist air flows from the Indian Ocean converging over Sumatra and Kalimantan.
This document provides an introduction and background to a study on the causes and effects of global warming on Nepal's national security. It discusses how global warming is caused by both natural phenomena and human activities like the emission of greenhouse gases. The document outlines the problems statement, objectives, significance and limitations of the study. It also provides an overview of how the study will be organized into subsequent chapters covering the literature review, causes and effects of global warming on Nepal's national security, and mitigation measures.
Nigerian newspaper coverage of climate change, 2009 2010Alexander Decker
This document summarizes a research paper that assessed climate change reporting in four Nigerian newspapers between 2009-2010. The paper found that the newspapers gave significant coverage to climate change issues, with 55% of stories being news articles. The newspapers portrayed climate change as being human-induced and did not publish stories that fueled uncertainty about climate change. However, the newspapers inaccurately linked climate change only to changes in weather patterns in Nigeria. The document recommends that Nigerian newspapers include more in-depth analysis and non-news stories about climate change to better inform the public about solutions.
Climate change is threatening Nepal's natural resources, livelihoods, and development. Nepal is highly vulnerable to climate impacts like changing precipitation patterns, glacial melt, floods, landslides, and droughts. Average temperatures in Nepal have been rising, rainfall is becoming more variable, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense. Key vulnerable sectors include water resources, agriculture, ecosystems, and communities in poverty. Urgent national measures are needed to address current and future climate vulnerabilities and their effects on water availability, natural disasters, and livelihoods in order to promote sustainable development.

The document contains a lesson plan (Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran or RPP) for a 10th grade English class in Indonesia. The lesson focuses on reading skills and news items. The objectives are for students to identify events, purpose, language features, and rhetoric in news texts. Students will analyze sample news texts and work in groups to answer questions about generic structure and language features. Their understanding will be assessed through group work and a written test.
This presentation, part of a workshop for science educators at National Science Teachers Association conferences in 2013, describes interdisciplinary classroom activities that get students thinking about how weather events are covered by news media.

The document discusses the impact of the shale gas revolution on natural gas from conventional sources. It notes that shale gas extraction has helped address concerns over diminishing fossil fuel supplies and meet global energy demand. However, safely transporting large amounts of shale gas at low cost while protecting the environment remains a challenge. The impact of the shale gas revolution must also be realistically assessed.
The document discusses climate change and its effects. It provides definitions of key terms like climate change and global warming. Climate change refers to long-term shifts in weather patterns globally or regionally, while global warming refers specifically to rising surface temperatures. The text states that scientific experts agree climate change is caused by human activities like burning fossil fuels that increase greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere. Some potential impacts of climate change discussed include rising sea levels, more extreme weather, droughts, and species endangerment. The document also outlines activities for students to help them better understand climate change and its causes and impacts.
1) The Japan counterparts of Humanitarian Coalition members were not prepared to respond to a disaster of this magnitude occurring in their own country. Local Japanese organizations responded more quickly due to their deep community roots.
2) High pressure from donors and media to intervene impacted decision making for Japanese organizations. Increased private funding also created new opportunities but management challenges.
3) International expertise from Humanitarian Coalition members was valuable but relationships were complex due to language and cultural barriers. Standards for disaster response also differed between developed and developing countries.
Supporting Forest and Peat Fire Management Using Social Media - Project OverviewUN Global Pulse
A feasibility study was conducted by Pulse Lab Jakarta on the use of real-time information from social media during forest and peat fires haze events to support emergency response management in Indonesia. Specifically, the study sought to explore early signals from Twitter relating to major forest fires or haze events with a view to understanding the relation between communications trends and on-the-ground events. The results of the study demonstrated that Indonesians tweet significantly more about haze during and immediately after major fire events.

This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.

Bridge breaks in Central Java, killing 5 people and injuring 29 others. A footbridge
packed with tourists broke at a mountainous resort on Java Island Wednesday,
killing five people and injuring 29 after they plunged into a rocky riverbed, police
and tourist officials said.
The victims were evacuated to three nearby hospitals, said Surono, an employee at
the Baturaden resort in Central Java province, adding that they fell more than 20
meters (yards) after one of the steel cables holding the small bridge snapped. Local
police, chief Emron Putra Agung said five people were killed and 29 injured. The
accident occurred as the country enjoys a weeklong holiday marking the end of the
Islamic month Ramadan, when people traditionally flock to holiday sites.
Baturaden, located 300 kilometers (190 miles) east of the capital Jakarta, is one of
the most popular resorts on the slopes of Mount Slamet (3,428 meters, 11,246
