The Building Blocks of DX: K8s Evolution from CLI to GitOpsOlyaSurits
Kubernetes has become the default container orchestrator framework, setting the standards for application deployment in a distributed architecture. Wider adaptability of the tool prompted the diversification of the end-user base, and a consistent DX for cluster interaction became essential for Kubernetes. The community channeled herculean efforts towards the enhancement of developer experience, by extending the cluster CLI, building portals and highly-responsive UIs. This talk will focus on the cluster interaction chronicles, showcasing tools and add-ons which contributed to a wider adoption for Kubernetes. An emphasis will be place on kubectl plugins and cluster state managers using mechanisms such as GitOps, ClickOps and even SheetOps.

There exists an industrywide consensus that 5G will unlock use cases across many sectors of industry and society. This new paradigm shift will enable massive machine-type communications (MMTC) for billions of devices, ultra-reliable low latency (URLLC) for AR and VR-enabled video devices, and enhanced mobile broadband (EMBB) to allow thousands of sports fans in a packed stadium to enjoy the on-field action live on their devices, all at the same time. This new breed of apps will bring together the cloud and the network, with 5G and multi-access edge computing (MEC) capabilities pushing computing closer to the problems they’re trying to solve. Developers will leverage network APIs as a control plane to make the best use of available infrastructure and the network, with more control over application performance and required capabilities for those next-generation video analytics, quality control, real-time management, and metaverse applications.
At Microsoft, we’re opening the door to the power of 5G to help developers take full advantage of the opportunity. We are committed to helping developers create on their own terms with a distributed, open-source environment and to build on a consistent, carrier-agnostic platform. And we are at the forefront of an effort to help standardize APIs, coordinating work across technology and communications providers. Last month, we touched on Edge Video Services (EVS), a Microsoft platform for developing video analytics solutions that can be deployed on Azure public MEC. In our top story this month, we learn that EVS is just the beginning, and partners are now broadly exploiting the power of Azure edge services to deliver even more incredible applications.

Edge Computing: A Unified Infrastructure for all the Different PiecesCloudify Community
Edge Computing along with 5G promises to revolutionize customer experience with immersive applications that we can only imagine at this point. The edge will include PNFs, VNFs, and mobile-edge applications; requiring containers, virtual machines and bare-metal compute. But while edge computing promises numerous new revenue streams, managing and orchestrating these edge infrastructure environments is not going to be a seamless, instant process. In this webinar, experts in NFV orchestration discuss the concerns you must address in the transition to the edge, and show how you can use available open source tools to create a single management environment for PNFs, VNFs, and mobile-edge applications.
Cloudify: Open vCPE Design Concepts and Multi-Cloud OrchestrationCloudify Community
See how open vCPE can be achieved in the real world and in action, while integrating other VNFs into the service chain, while easily instantiating and managing on any cloud, leveraging open orchestration design concepts. More and more vendors are looking to not only easily onboard their VNFs to the cloud, but also build a stack that is versatile and not locked into one cloud provider or vendor. Join this webinar and learn how Datavision and Cloudify are helping deliver this end-to-end solution across the globe
While the need for network automation is becoming a key part of the overall digital transformation agenda, the reality is that the success rate behind previous attempts to drive network automation (a.k.a NFV) is only at about 30%, where the statistics show that 70% of transformation projects fail!
Converting from a three tier or monolithic application to microservices can be daunting, and often comes at a non-trivial cost or effort. So why are organizations doing it, and how do they justify the expense? We will discuss some of the practices and migration strategies used by organizations who undergo this sort of transformation, such as extracting functions through refactoring and converting them to microservices. As the journey progresses, we learn that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to making applications cloud-native… so the real question needs to be ‘how do I find the right approach for me?’ We can help you begin to answer that question for yourself, by discussing the facets of consideration such as technical, procedural, and risk tolerance to name a few.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
