New Era Changemakers New Course for Fall 2011 Saint Joseph’s University
New Era ChangemakersFall 2011 This class will examine ways students can help spread social change, as well as help develop their own ideas, such as non-profit organizations or other enterprises.
Social Media The class will use social media to advocate how these sites can be used in order to help changemakers fulfill their goals. For example, the class will learn ways to use Facebook pages in order to spread word about projects. They will also engage in activity on Twitter and blogging sites. Learning different ways these sites can be used will help students see how social media can be used real world, especially when dealing with social change.
Non-Profits Mock Non-Profits (Groups) – Each non-profit group will have to go through the steps of creating an actual non-profit, such as creating a mission statement and strategic plan. As well as looking at the financial end of starting not for profit organizations. Students will have to use social media sites, as if the organizations exist in the real world.
Non-Profits At the end of the semester, the non-profit groups will give an in depth presentation on their organization. The presentation will be given to that class, as well as guests who may help these non-profits get off the ground. The winner of the non-profit project will get start up funding from the Saint Joseph’s University.
Take this course! If you wish to learn more about becoming a social entrepreneur, working for already existing non-profits, especially those that use social media, this is the class for you! Become a New Era Changemaker next Fall!
