Single molecule measurement of eukaryotic translation trial
Single molecule measurements of eukaryotic translation show that protein synthesis rates in vivo are typically 4-22 codons per second in yeast and 5-7 codons per second in mammals, slower than prokaryotic rates. During translation, nascent polypeptide chains begin folding cotranslationally, interacting with cognate tRNAs and other cellular components. These single molecule studies provide new insights into the dynamics and complexity of eukaryotic protein production.
