The TVA was created to improve navigation on the Tennessee River, control floods, and generate electricity. It has accomplished this through building 29 hydroelectric dams, 3 nuclear power plants, and other facilities, now providing electricity to over 8 million residents. The TVA has succeeded in its goals by generating power, increasing water supply, providing recreational areas, and creating a long navigation channel while controlling floods.
