The Nevada Department of Transportation has installed interactive road signs with cameras and sensors to prevent wrong-way driving on highways. The signs react when a vehicle enters an off-ramp going the wrong way by flashing lights to alert the driver and notifying authorities if the vehicle continues past the sign. This was implemented after a fatal wrong-way crash on I-15 that killed the at-fault driver and caused a 10-hour traffic delay. The interactive signs are intended to reduce wrong-way accidents by alerting confused or impaired drivers and allowing faster law enforcement response.
