Gartner, an IT research company, publishes influential Magic Quadrant reports that rank technology companies. NetScout, an IT company, alleges that Gartner has a "pay-to-play" model where it ranks companies favorably if they purchase Gartner's consulting services, and unfavorably if they do not. NetScout further alleges that Gartner's recent Magic Quadrant report contained false and defamatory statements about NetScout, despite being warned, in an effort to pressure NetScout to purchase consulting services. NetScout is suing Gartner for violation of unfair trade practices laws and defamation.
