Company : Barton’s IT Services Limited Title : Director
I provide technical support for domestic and small business customers maximising the return they get on
their IT investment. This involves specifying and supplying new equipment in line with a planned programme
of IT development as well as diagnosing problems and providing ongoing care and maintenance. To allow
customers to get exactly what they want from their computer systems I develop bespoke programs following
a prototyping methodology. I also teach Microsoft and Comptia technical courses for Blue Chip.
2008 – 2002
Company : Barclays Bank Area: Data Warehouse
Initially I led the development team of about 25 staff managing the flow of short notice, high profile work
through the team. When I started the team ran up to 10 projects at a time, when I left the team had 160
projects running and turn around time had dropped form months to days. I then moved on to the DBA team
within the warehouse to address performance and capacity issues which were addressed before the team
were outsourced to Singapore – which I helped to implement.
2002 – 1997
Company : Barclays Bank Area: Live Support
I setup the Open Database Group as an entirely new unit to meet the growing needs of the payments
departments in Poole. Leading a team of Database Administrators I implemented several Ingres and Oracle
databases which had high availability requirements.
1997 – 1986
Company : Barclays Bank Area: Software Development
I transferred to the development team following technical work done in branches and trained as a programmer. I
worked on large scale back office developments rising to become a team leader responsible for the back office
terminals across the group. I then moved into a prototyping team which culminated in a prototype Executive
Information System provided for the senior executives in Barclays Bank.
1986 – 1979
Company : Barclays Bank Area: Branch
When I left school I started in Barclays as a general clerk working in back office and customer facing roles. During
this time I got interested in computers and started helping local staff to use the equipment available.
