Collaborative Summer Library Program  CSLP
Guiding Principal of CSLP Librarians sharing ideas, expertise, and costs to produce a high-quality summer reading program for children.
Some Basics: Sally Snyder is your state representative to CSLP, she is also the current President of CSLP Each participating state has one person designated as the “state representative”
Basics continued : Karen Drevo, Norfolk Public Library, is one of two children’s librarians representing Nebraska, she is also current Chair of the Vendor Committee.
Basics continued: Beth Trupp, Gering Public Library, is the second children’s librarian representing Nebraska, she currently serves on the Children’s Manual committee and the Adult Manual committee.
The Cooperative Summer Library Program Began in 1987 With 10 Minnesota Regional Library Systems.

1995 Brought Iowa and the SELCO Minnesota Regional

More That We Gain: Timeline is great – get manuals in October Professional connections with librarians from all over the U.S. Good way to start offering SRP to teens if you haven’t before – everything you need to get started
What Did We Lose? “ Collaborative” means give & take – you will gain so much but also lose some  There are 47 state (or parts of states) members, all gave up something – local control The benefits far outweigh the loss
CSLP Business Membership open to state, regional or county library organizations Two-year minimum commitment  One and only business: the Summer Reading Program Determine program theme Discussions with the vendor Evaluation of proposed artwork
CSLP Business Evaluation of proposed reading incentives Request ideas from community librarians for the various manuals (children, teen, adult) Request slogan and concept ideas from community librarians Review the draft of the manual chapters
CSLP conducts business at its Annual Meeting Dues $65 base plus $2 per public library in the state 3 votes per state  Vote on the top 5 suggestions for slogan for 2011 Vote on the top 5 suggestions for the concept for 2012
More CSLP business at its Annual Meeting Vote on slate of officers, any Bylaw changes, etc. Reports from Committee Chairs Discussion with the Vendor, including ideas for incentives for the next year Discussion of other topics or issues brought up by the membership
CSLP conducts business at Board Meetings Board meetings usually are conference calls to keep the organization moving ahead, they are held bimonthly Each Committee Chair sends a report to the Board prior to each meeting. Committee Chairs ask for items to be put on the agenda, as needed
CSLP conducts business at Committee Meetings Committee meetings are conference calls to discuss issues and make decisions, they are held as needed Committee business is usually conducted via email.
