 2017 - Science andTechnology for Specially Abled Persons
 2018 – Science andTechnology for a Sustainable Future
 Listed above are the themes used during the celebration of
National Science Day every year.
 What’s the theme for 2019?
 “Science for the People and the People for Science”
 Wallace Smith Broecker was an American geophysicist who developed the
idea of a global "conveyor belt" linking the circulation of the global ocean.
He also made major contributions to the science of the carbon cycle and
the use of chemical tracers and isotope dating in oceanography. In 1975,
Broecker popularized another very famous term when he published a paper
titled: "ClimateChange:Are we on the Brink of a Pronounced ______
_______?
 What other famous term was popularized by this gentleman?
 GlobalWarming
 The name of which part of the human body (now proved to be a
vestigeal structure) is derived from the Greek word for cuckoo
because its curved shape resembles the bird’s beak?
 Coccyx
 X took an interest in science in his twilight years, writing “Visva
Parichay” a collection of essays in 1937. His exploration of biology,
physics, and astronomy impacted his poetry, which often contained
extensive naturalism that underscored his respect for scientific
laws.
 According to X, he dedicated his only book on science toY who was
best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s.
 Identify X andY.
 X – RabindranathTagore
 Y – Satyendra Nath Bose
 In Greek mythology this character, a son of Zeus, was made to stand in a
pool of water beneath a fruit tree with low branches.Whenever he reached
for the fruit, the branches raised his intended meal from his grasp.
Whenever he bent down to get a drink, the water receded before he could
get any.
 This story forms the basis behind naming the chemical element with
atomic number 73 after this mythological character. Regarding the
nomenclature, Ekeberg wrote "This metal I call X … partly in allusion to its
incapacity, when immersed in acid, to absorb any and be saturated.".
 Name the element.
 Tantalum
 Whose last published paper was titled "A smooth exit from
eternal inflation" and co-authored withThomas Hertog of the
University of Leuven in Belgium?
 The paper presents preliminary calculations that combine
quantum and classical physics. The research explores whether
an “infinite fractal-like multiverse” was created by the cosmic
inflation.
 Stephen Hawking
 Few days back, PM Modi inauguarted a supercomputer of 833
teraflop capacity built for Rs. 32.5 crore at IIT- Banaras Hindu
University. The supercomputer was built under the Rs. 4500 crore
National Supercomputing Missiom (NSM) under which 73
supercomputers would be installed.
 Just name this supercomputer.
 PARAM Shivay
 He said he found no evidence for a God so he became an agnostic.
In an interview published in theTimes newspaper in 2000 he is
quoted as saying: "My father was a committed Quaker and I was
brought up as a Quaker, and for them truth is very important. I
drifted away from those beliefs – one is obviously looking for truth,
but one needs some evidence for it. Even if I wanted to believe in
God I would find it very difficult. I would need to see proof.”
 Identify this Nobel Laureate.
 Frederick Sanger
 The Dymaxion car was included in the 2009 book Fifty CarsThat
ChangedTheWorld Designed during the Great Depression, it was
featured prominently at Chicago's 1933/1934 World's Fair. The
designer associated the word Dymaxion with much of his work
which in turn was a portmanteau of the words dynamic, maximum,
and tension, to summarize his goal to do more with less.
 Who designed this car? Or what in the world of chemistry is named
after him?
 Buckminster Fuller
 This is a unit of mass, derived from Carob seeds which have been
used throughout history to measure the mass of a particular thing,
because of the little variance in their mass distribution.
 Which unit?

This is a panting titled ‘The
Geographer’ by JohannesVermeer.
The model for this painting was a
Dutch scientist and one of the notable
representatives in the golden age of
Dutch science and technology.
Just identify him.
 Antonie van Leeuwenhoek
 The relationship between theoretical and experimental physicists
have been strained for long as most of the theoretical ones were
guilty of being involved in horrible experimental errors. This
particular physicist who won the Nobel prize in Physics in the year
1945 for his work involving spin theory was often involved in
laboratory mishaps including violent explosions, mismatch between
theoretical and practical values , improper handling of apparatus
etc.

 Who is this famous physicist?

 Wolfgang Pauli
 This is a statue dedicated to which mathematician?
 Pythagoras
"Turritopsis Dohrnii" is one of the species of this sea creature, believed to be
an immortal. It gets younger and younger until it starts its life all over again.
They have roamed the seas for at least 500 million years making them the
oldest multi-organ animal.Their unique approach to hardship may be
helping Turritopsis swarms spread throughout the world's oceans. Most of
them do not have specialized digestive, osmoregulatory, central
nervous, respiratory, or circulatory systems.
Which common sea creature isTurntopsis a species under?
What are they rightly nicknamed as due to their ability to get younger and
younger until it starts its life all over again?
 Jelly fish, Benjamin
Button of the sea
 In 1980, she contested in the Lok Sabha elections as an

 In an acidic solution, the “lawsone” molecule can react via a
process called Michael addition with keratin to create a stain.
Lawsone non-specifically targets primary amino acids, and
displays photoluminescence with forensic light sources.
 What is the most popular instance of the use of “lawsone”
molecule that all of us have seen?
 Henna
 By auto-tuning the teachings of world renowned scientists,
and adding in some light electronic work, John D. Boswell’s
