40. Contact Hours, A clock hour is defined as the actual time a student
spends in a structured learning environment addressing the tasks in the task list.
No contact/clock hour of instruction can be counted twice. A clock hour that is used
teaching brake tasks cannot be counted as teaching electrical. Each student whether
as a part of a class, or individually, must have access to 650 clock hours of (teacher
contact time) instruction. Key word is access.
Keep in mind the program is being certified, not the students.
Structured learning environment is one that is under the tutelage of an ASE certified
instructor and or mentor in a work-based learning environment. This can be secondary
Or post secondary or cooperative training plan.
Articulated program, A program can be certified in Brakes and Electrical and articulate the
task areas of Engine Performance and Steering & Suspension to another institution that
is certified in those areas.
