Personal Narrative: My Experience with Gender Roles
A secret agent. A professional football player. A fire fighter. These would have been my responses
when asked that inevitable question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Family, Media
and Peers are said to have influenced my views concerning the role I am to play society. All of these
factors had one thing in common. They all were influencing me to behave according to my gender.
Everything from the clothes I wore to the toys I played with contributed to this. Even now as a
young adult my dreams and aspirations are built around the gender roles that were placed on me.
There were several instances in my childhood when my Family had a direct influence on me
according to...show more content...
The main character Fred Flinstone is the head of the family. He is the one who earns the money
to support the family. His wife Wilma takes care of things such as house work and raising the
children. Finally, my peers as a child also had a large influence on me. Because other children my
age were also being raised with gender roles, when they came to school or over to my house to
play, the toys they brought would be results of gender roles. When we interacted socially we would
play with trucks and army men. Parents would not give their sons dolls or dress–up games, because
they were trying to teach us to become the stereotypical adult male. As you can see, my childhood
dreams were greatly influenced by my family, media and peers in a way that is a direct result of
gender roles.
As I enter my early years of college, I am forced to deal with the fact I should know what I want to
do with the rest of my life, or at least have a solid plan. I wish I could say that I have totally
matured from my childish dreams of professional athleticism, but I haven't. Currently my aspirations
for life not only include becoming successful in academics, but athletics as well. Now that I know
the sociological theories behind gender roles I can pick out things that are still pushing me towards
that stereotypical male figure I was raised to become. Now the influences have matured from
cartoons to the government. Upon

Frankenstein and the Epistolary Novel Form
Q: "Examine the effect of the epistolary form of writing throughout the novel Frankenstein. Do you
think the epistolary novel form of writing are an effective form of telling the story? How does the
epistolary form affect plot development and character development?"
Mary Shelly, the author of the novel Frankenstein, writes Frankenstein in epistolary form which is an
effective way of integrating the reader into the story, introducing writer bias [character development],
and furthering the theme of communication.
The epistolary form of writing allows the reader to feel as if they are receiving an actual account of
the story. This type of writing makes the reader feel as if the character is writing to them. The plot
seems more realistic and...show more content...
Walton's final decision to turn back after listening to his crew also mitigates the harshness of Victor
Frankenstein's story.
The epistolary structure of the novel and the subsequent use of multiple narrators forces the reader
to judge for themselves what is true and what is dramatized from the letters. Due to the story being
retold from the point of view of Victor the reader is more likely to understand why Victor and Walton
deem the monster a malevolent and insensitive brute.
(Favert 1) We must begin to read Frankenstein more as a well–wrought "baggy monster" of
correspondences, and less as a singular, alien phenomenon. If we read it as an interactive
combination of tales, rather than one linear narrative, we can refrain from casting the novelist into
the narrow role of a "young girl" with "so very hideous an idea." Frankenstein is Mary Shelley's
novel; it is no more her story than Walton's, Victor's or the monster's. Within the text, the various
narrators slide from their own stories into the histories of others, and with each movement, we are
asked to extend our "willing suspension of disbelief." As the novel multiplies its story–tellers and
listeners, it renews the problem of narrative authority. Whose story do we believe? –– the novel
defuses such a question. The fantastic nature of the stories preclude rational explanation or
judgment, and we do not,

My Writing Experience Essay
Writing has always been my most difficult part of English. Reading, on the other hand, is
something I could do all day; however, with writing, I grimace just thinking about it. It was not
that I did not have anything to say, because I actually have quite a bit to say. I just could never
figure out how to phrase what I had to say in just right way on the page. My mom taught me to
read and write at a young age. After that, I would devour any book that I could get my hands on.
However, I have had trouble with writing since it became more than just my alphabet and numbers.
In elementary, I got through assignments by making my projects read like a boring fact book. This
way was awesome for a high grade, not so great for writing interesting...show more content...
Mullins comments and said, "Next time, you will just have to change it up a bit." I asked her
what she meant. My mom said, "Next time you will make it more fun, not so much like a
timeline, and more like a true story about your subject." This was my first experience in writing
for a grade. I learned a lot and I immediately applied to my future written assignments. I was in
high school the first time I had to write a narrative. I was a freshman. This was Ms. Bradley's first
time teaching at Union Christian Academy. On her first day, she gave us our syllabus and said, "I
do not accept late work, especially on writing assignments." We, literally, sat there stunned. My
freshman class had it very easy during eighth grade year. We were not expecting this. As I looked
through the syllabus, I saw that our first assignment was due in a week and it was a narrative. At
this time, I did not even know what a narrative was. Ms. Bradley explained that a narrative was an
account or story of events. It could be either true or false. Our narrative had to be true. It had to be
a true account of something that happened to us over the summer. She wanted to gauge how are
writing skills were. Our narrative had to be at least two to two and a half pages long. I chose to
write my first ever narrative on my trip to Fort Worth, Texas. Once again, I was plagued with
writer's block. I had the story in my head, but everything I

The Importance Of Narrative Writing
Narrative Writing is a story that is told and the order in which it is told. Some stories have
narrators and some without. The narrator is normally a series of characters or one character who tell
the story. Sometimes narrative writing can be classified as fiction writing which is a made up from
start to finish. When there is narrative writing that is based on true stores, then the narrative writing
is non fiction. Most narrative writing in the law enforcement sector is a "how to" format or a
guideline on how a report should be written. It also explains the actual facts on how a crime
occurred during the investigation. According to the text Biggs (2016), There are five rules of
narrative writing. The first rule of narrative writing is, the report should always be written in first
person. When the narrative explains first person, the narrative is stating that using "I or Me" in
the reports identify the author of the person who is writing the investigative report. If "I or Me"
is not being used to write the investigative reports, the investigation could be sought as made up or
fake. The second rule of narrative writing is, the report should also be written in past tense along
with first person view. According to the text, If you write in the past tense, you will develop
consistency and, as a result, create a report that is professional and easy to read. With this type of
consistency, the reports are easily believable to the reader and makes it easy to follow the

Personal Narrative Thesis Statement
This weeks' review is all about revisions, both large scale and small scale revisions to help us
complete our final essay, the home stretch in this course. I have revised my essay at least ten
times over the past few weeks. Being a professional for the past 20+ years summarizing what is
said in something more than a bullet point or short email has proven to be difficult. What was I
trying to communicate in my earlier versions is very close to where I am today but the route I am
taking to get to this conclusions is much different thank I had anticipated . My ideas were all over
the map and didn't make any sense, in the beginning, the reverse outline helped tremendously. I have
a decent thesis statement. I'm finding it difficult to have solid topic sentences, and bringing

some of the paragraphs are lacking something. I am going to read it backward tonight. This is a
completely alien concept to me and one I would never think of doing. Getting input from an outside
source and trying something different and new in my review process will hopefully get me more
focused on my topic sentences and make the rest of the essay easier to

My First Birthday
It was my tenth birthday. I woke up that day overly excited for my age to finally be in the "double
digits." I didn't know that birthday would be one I'd never forget and turn out to be a day that
changed my life forever. I come from your regular, working class family. My parents have been
together since they were teenagers and they had two kids, myself and my younger brother, Taylor.
My parents did (and still do) everything possible to make sure my brother and I were happy. I was
also lucky enough to have my dad's mother, my grandmother, who would also do anything to make
sure we were happy. I remember being at my grandma's house as a child and watching her make us
breakfast, sitting in the poor lit kitchen, around a country–style table. I can still remember the sound
of her voice, the way her house smelled, the way she smelled and how it felt to hug her. I was
never called by my name, she only referred to me as "her baby." Which I was, there was no
question about it. My grandma had four children including my dad. Of her four children, she
ended up with seven grandchildren. My brother and I being the youngest, we were the apples of
her eye. She was a Kentucky grown woman with Kentucky blood. She smoked cigarettes the
entire time I knew her, even when she was wearing oxygen. The day of my tenth birthday, my
mom told me I could do whatever it was I wanted. I chose to go see the new Adam Sandler movie
playing at the local $1 theater in town. Afterwards, we spent the day

With the game tied 6–6 that is when I went into my own little zone and was in my moment. The
crowed was electrified and cheering us on. I thought about all the hard work the coaches put us
through doing two a days and keeping us late after a hard practice, spending all of that time and
hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our
quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got
into overtime. Then after about 6 crazy seconds he threw the ball to our halfback and he broke a
couple tackles and the somehow stretched across the goal line by about 2 inches and we had taken
the lead 8–6 with 52 seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools
history the football team had beaten Aberdeen and none of us could believe it. This was a special
moment. Now, it was in this moment when I had realized that sports define me as me because we
never gave up, none of us wanted to lose, we set a goal and completed it, but most important we
kept our eye on the prize and came through in the moment when the game was on the line. Nobody
is going to remember how many games we won or who the best player on the team was that season,
but I guarantee what people will remember is when we had beaten Aberdeen for the first time in

Personal Narrative : The Great Gatsby
Have you ever lit your pants on fire!?! Thankfully, neither have I, but I did make a fool of myself in

usually never do anything wrong. That is why it became such a shocking and hilarious experience
when I finally did something wrong. I learned the hard way, through slight humiliation, that you
should always follow an instructor's exact directions no matter the circumstance.
During the month of May, 2017, my Language Arts class was assigned a book project. Everyone
received a book and worksheets that went along with the book, which helped us understand the

The evil nature of her smile even gave me goosebumps. Taking her word that there was going to
be a pop quiz tomorrow, I made sure that I attained my book and worksheets to study with that
night. The next day, as promised, she handed out a short pop quiz. It was not as challenging as
she tried to make it sound. It presented only five multiple choice questions on it. Once we
finished our quizzes, she told us to read the next chapter silently. Once I finished my quiz at the
speed of light, I decided to finish other homework, since I preferred to read at home anyway. So
while the rest of my class was reading, I worked on homework. Thirty minutes later, I completely
finished all of my other assignments, so I decided to start reading the chapter. After nearly two
paragraphs in, my teacher interrupted the class to see if everyone finished reading the chapter.
Unknown to me, the chapter was fairly short and everyone, but me, finished it. Raising my hand
slowly, I told her that I had not finished reading. Everyone in my class turned around and stared at
me. The teacher asked me how far I was in the chapter and how much time I needed to

Personal Narrative: My Writing As A Writer
During this spring semester, I have grown in many ways as a writer, and a student. I have started
to realize, and accept the flaws that I have created in my writing. In the past, I never looked into
my writings and saw my problems, and if I did, I did not accept that they were problems. In my
writing pieces in the past, I was very hard–headed about what I thought was correct versus what was
actually correct. I have also become More familiar with different formatting options on Microsoft
Word to create a more professional piece or writing. However, figuring out all the parts of writing
and making them work together is the most difficult part of writing. A writer can influence a
reader in many ways using many different strategies. They may be influenced with emotion,
logic, and experience. A main way of influencing your reader is to support your claims
thoroughly. At the beginning of the semester, and through part of the semester, I would come up
with a good main point, but I would lack Good supporting detail to my claims. After being in this
class, I realize more that I need to come up with good supporting evidence to back up my claims.

My Vacation to Nassau, Bahamas
When I was in eighth grade I went on my first trip out of the country to Nassau, Bahamas. Going
on this trip was one of the most exciting and unforgettable times of my life. Not only was it a fun
experience, it was also the first time I realized that I love traveling. While there I was lucky enough
to visit many places, such as Blue Lagoon Island and the beautiful Atlantis Resort, and immerse
myself in the Bahamian culture. My time in The Bahamas was not my only great memory from that
trip. The journey to get to The Bahamas itself was also quite interesting.
There was only one week before I left for my trip to the Bahamas. My dad had already booked our
trip and he told me we were staying in the little hotel across the street from the Atlantis Resort in
Nassau, Bahamas. To be honest I was pretty upset about it. Although before leaving for our
vacation I was given the great news from my dad that we were not staying at the hotel across
from the resort and we were actually staying at the huge Atlantis Royal Towers section of the
Atlantis Resort with a great view. This news had completely brightened my day. Two days after
finding out the fantastic news we left for the airport at around three o'clock in the morning. We
flew out of O'Hare International Airport so we had to ride on a tram to get the airport where
something happened that, to me, is rather coincidental. Since it was only three in the morning
there was no one on the tram except for my parents and I, along with a young couple. Once we got
off the tram we made our way to the gate for our flight to Miami, Florida to board the connecting
flight to Nassau. When we got on the plane we recognized the people in our row as the same young
couple we saw on the tram earlier in the morning! After landing and making our way to the
connecting flight we noticed that the young couple from the flight was going to the Bahamas as
well. I just thought that the encounter was a pretty interesting coincidence and is something that I
will probably remember for quite a while.
After experiencing the memorable and somewhat coincidental journey to the Bahamas we decided
to take a boat from Nassau to Blue Lagoon Island. I would describe Blue Lagoon

Example Of A Narrative Essay College
A narrative essay is a story that is true and has meaning, whether it be to prove a point, send a
message, explain an event that's happened, or entertain the reader. Most narrative essays are
written to convey a story from a past time that sends a message to not only the reader, but the
writer themselves. When planning a narrative essay, the first step is to identify the topic in which
the writer wants to explain. There are multiple ways in which the you can come up with a topic, it
all depends on the style you're most comfortable with. The next step is to write down all the main
events that supports the topic you have chosen. What main events led up to the story you're trying to

choosing my topic, I wrote down 3 main events that were important in my life that impacted me and
shaped myself into the person I am today. The 3 I chose were: breaking the 3200–meter record for
my school, breaking the 4x800 record with my team, and lastly, moving from Poinciana to

breaking the 4x800 record with my team was a memorable moment and the first record I'd ever
broken at my school, nothing compared to the feeling I got when I broke an individual record that
was held by my own coach. I had a sense of relief and happiness, not just for myself, but my coach
as well. It felt as if I didn't just break the record for the sake of me personally, but for him too. May
have taken 21 years to be broken, but I'd say it sure was worth

First Person Narrative Essay
The first–person narrative is a story told from the first–person perspective. The narrator is speaking
directly about him or herself. The first–person narrator can be either subjective or objective. The
third–objective narrative is a story told by a nonparticipating character. The narrator is usually
detached from the story. Sometimes, the narrator completely penetrates the mind of a character.
Third–person narration is often used in documentaries. The omniscient narrators are often not part of
the story but are all–knowing observers. These narrators tell the reader all the facts we need to know
to fully understand the story. Since the woman thinks that she is seeing a ghost, I would use the

The story might be told by a group of people or just one person. For instance, the story can be
created by the producers, the directors, and the writers working together. However, in a film with

The narration in realist movies is almost invisible. The story unfolds by itself in a chronological
order. The narration in classical movies is more obvious. There is a discreet storyteller who help
direct the story and keep everything on track. In formalist movies, the narrator is manipulative. The
narrator often destroys the chronological order of the story and restructures events to emphasize a

  • 1. Personal Narrative: My Experience with Gender Roles A secret agent. A professional football player. A fire fighter. These would have been my responses when asked that inevitable question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Family, Media and Peers are said to have influenced my views concerning the role I am to play society. All of these factors had one thing in common. They all were influencing me to behave according to my gender. Everything from the clothes I wore to the toys I played with contributed to this. Even now as a young adult my dreams and aspirations are built around the gender roles that were placed on me. There were several instances in my childhood when my Family had a direct influence on me according to...show more content... The main character Fred Flinstone is the head of the family. He is the one who earns the money to support the family. His wife Wilma takes care of things such as house work and raising the children. Finally, my peers as a child also had a large influence on me. Because other children my age were also being raised with gender roles, when they came to school or over to my house to play, the toys they brought would be results of gender roles. When we interacted socially we would play with trucks and army men. Parents would not give their sons dolls or dress–up games, because they were trying to teach us to become the stereotypical adult male. As you can see, my childhood dreams were greatly influenced by my family, media and peers in a way that is a direct result of gender roles. As I enter my early years of college, I am forced to deal with the fact I should know what I want to do with the rest of my life, or at least have a solid plan. I wish I could say that I have totally matured from my childish dreams of professional athleticism, but I haven't. Currently my aspirations for life not only include becoming successful in academics, but athletics as well. Now that I know the sociological theories behind gender roles I can pick out things that are still pushing me towards that stereotypical male figure I was raised to become. Now the influences have matured from cartoons to the government. Upon Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 3. Frankenstein and the Epistolary Novel Form Q: "Examine the effect of the epistolary form of writing throughout the novel Frankenstein. Do you think the epistolary novel form of writing are an effective form of telling the story? How does the epistolary form affect plot development and character development?" Mary Shelly, the author of the novel Frankenstein, writes Frankenstein in epistolary form which is an effective way of integrating the reader into the story, introducing writer bias [character development], and furthering the theme of communication. The epistolary form of writing allows the reader to feel as if they are receiving an actual account of the story. This type of writing makes the reader feel as if the character is writing to them. The plot seems more realistic and...show more content... Walton's final decision to turn back after listening to his crew also mitigates the harshness of Victor Frankenstein's story. The epistolary structure of the novel and the subsequent use of multiple narrators forces the reader to judge for themselves what is true and what is dramatized from the letters. Due to the story being retold from the point of view of Victor the reader is more likely to understand why Victor and Walton deem the monster a malevolent and insensitive brute. (Favert 1) We must begin to read Frankenstein more as a well–wrought "baggy monster" of correspondences, and less as a singular, alien phenomenon. If we read it as an interactive combination of tales, rather than one linear narrative, we can refrain from casting the novelist into the narrow role of a "young girl" with "so very hideous an idea." Frankenstein is Mary Shelley's novel; it is no more her story than Walton's, Victor's or the monster's. Within the text, the various narrators slide from their own stories into the histories of others, and with each movement, we are asked to extend our "willing suspension of disbelief." As the novel multiplies its story–tellers and listeners, it renews the problem of narrative authority. Whose story do we believe? –– the novel defuses such a question. The fantastic nature of the stories preclude rational explanation or judgment, and we do not, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Writing Experience Essay Writing has always been my most difficult part of English. Reading, on the other hand, is something I could do all day; however, with writing, I grimace just thinking about it. It was not that I did not have anything to say, because I actually have quite a bit to say. I just could never figure out how to phrase what I had to say in just right way on the page. My mom taught me to read and write at a young age. After that, I would devour any book that I could get my hands on. However, I have had trouble with writing since it became more than just my alphabet and numbers. In elementary, I got through assignments by making my projects read like a boring fact book. This way was awesome for a high grade, not so great for writing interesting...show more content... Mullins comments and said, "Next time, you will just have to change it up a bit." I asked her what she meant. My mom said, "Next time you will make it more fun, not so much like a timeline, and more like a true story about your subject." This was my first experience in writing for a grade. I learned a lot and I immediately applied to my future written assignments. I was in high school the first time I had to write a narrative. I was a freshman. This was Ms. Bradley's first time teaching at Union Christian Academy. On her first day, she gave us our syllabus and said, "I do not accept late work, especially on writing assignments." We, literally, sat there stunned. My freshman class had it very easy during eighth grade year. We were not expecting this. As I looked through the syllabus, I saw that our first assignment was due in a week and it was a narrative. At this time, I did not even know what a narrative was. Ms. Bradley explained that a narrative was an account or story of events. It could be either true or false. Our narrative had to be true. It had to be a true account of something that happened to us over the summer. She wanted to gauge how are writing skills were. Our narrative had to be at least two to two and a half pages long. I chose to write my first ever narrative on my trip to Fort Worth, Texas. Once again, I was plagued with writer's block. I had the story in my head, but everything I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 6. The Importance Of Narrative Writing Narrative Writing is a story that is told and the order in which it is told. Some stories have narrators and some without. The narrator is normally a series of characters or one character who tell the story. Sometimes narrative writing can be classified as fiction writing which is a made up from start to finish. When there is narrative writing that is based on true stores, then the narrative writing is non fiction. Most narrative writing in the law enforcement sector is a "how to" format or a guideline on how a report should be written. It also explains the actual facts on how a crime occurred during the investigation. According to the text Biggs (2016), There are five rules of narrative writing. The first rule of narrative writing is, the report should always be written in first person. When the narrative explains first person, the narrative is stating that using "I or Me" in the reports identify the author of the person who is writing the investigative report. If "I or Me" is not being used to write the investigative reports, the investigation could be sought as made up or fake. The second rule of narrative writing is, the report should also be written in past tense along with first person view. According to the text, If you write in the past tense, you will develop consistency and, as a result, create a report that is professional and easy to read. With this type of consistency, the reports are easily believable to the reader and makes it easy to follow the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Personal Narrative Thesis Statement This weeks' review is all about revisions, both large scale and small scale revisions to help us complete our final essay, the home stretch in this course. I have revised my essay at least ten times over the past few weeks. Being a professional for the past 20+ years summarizing what is said in something more than a bullet point or short email has proven to be difficult. What was I trying to communicate in my earlier versions is very close to where I am today but the route I am taking to get to this conclusions is much different thank I had anticipated . My ideas were all over the map and didn't make any sense, in the beginning, the reverse outline helped tremendously. I have a decent thesis statement. I'm finding it difficult to have solid topic sentences, and bringing everything together has also been a challenge....show more content... The reverse outline did help me focus on the key points of my thesis statement yet the body of some of the paragraphs are lacking something. I am going to read it backward tonight. This is a completely alien concept to me and one I would never think of doing. • 9. My First Birthday It was my tenth birthday. I woke up that day overly excited for my age to finally be in the "double digits." I didn't know that birthday would be one I'd never forget and turn out to be a day that changed my life forever. I come from your regular, working class family. My parents have been together since they were teenagers and they had two kids, myself and my younger brother, Taylor. My parents did (and still do) everything possible to make sure my brother and I were happy. I was also lucky enough to have my dad's mother, my grandmother, who would also do anything to make sure we were happy. I remember being at my grandma's house as a child and watching her make us breakfast, sitting in the poor lit kitchen, around a country–style table. I can still remember the sound of her voice, the way her house smelled, the way she smelled and how it felt to hug her. I was never called by my name, she only referred to me as "her baby." Which I was, there was no question about it. My grandma had four children including my dad. Of her four children, she ended up with seven grandchildren. My brother and I being the youngest, we were the apples of her eye. She was a Kentucky grown woman with Kentucky blood. She smoked cigarettes the entire time I knew her, even when she was wearing oxygen. The day of my tenth birthday, my mom told me I could do whatever it was I wanted. I chose to go see the new Adam Sandler movie playing at the local $1 theater in town. Afterwards, we spent the day Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Essay on Sports Narrative Tyler Douglas Professor Thamm Eng 101–10:00 a.m. Due: Sep. 29, 2008 Essay #1 Narrative A major role in my life would definitely be sports. It is almost as if I look up to sports because I could not live without them. Sports pretty much define me as me. I love to play sports as well as watch all kinds of sports on T.V. and if I could ever go to a game and watch the players play live I would be thrilled. Basically sports define me because I am ambitious, I finish what I start, I set goals for myself, and I am a fierce competitor in which I love to win and I hate to lose. The greatest part about sports to me is living for the moment when the game is on the line and the pressure is on can you come through and make a play for your...show more content... With the game tied 6–6 that is when I went into my own little zone and was in my moment. The crowed was electrified and cheering us on. I thought about all the hard work the coaches put us through doing two a days and keeping us late after a hard practice, spending all of that time and hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got into overtime. Then after about 6 crazy seconds he threw the ball to our halfback and he broke a couple tackles and the somehow stretched across the goal line by about 2 inches and we had taken the lead 8–6 with 52 seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools history the football team had beaten Aberdeen and none of us could believe it. This was a special moment. Now, it was in this moment when I had realized that sports define me as me because we never gave up, none of us wanted to lose, we set a goal and completed it, but most important we kept our eye on the prize and came through in the moment when the game was on the line. Nobody is going to remember how many games we won or who the best player on the team was that season, but I guarantee what people will remember is when we had beaten Aberdeen for the first time in school Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. Personal Narrative : The Great Gatsby Have you ever lit your pants on fire!?! Thankfully, neither have I, but I did make a fool of myself in front of my entire class. All of my teachers and classmates know that I am a slow reader, but I usually never do anything wrong. That is why it became such a shocking and hilarious experience when I finally did something wrong. I learned the hard way, through slight humiliation, that you should always follow an instructor's exact directions no matter the circumstance. During the month of May, 2017, my Language Arts class was assigned a book project. Everyone received a book and worksheets that went along with the book, which helped us understand the meanings and ideas in the book. That year we read The Great Gatsby. Accompanying her evil statement was an equally evil smile that traversed her face. The evil nature of her smile even gave me goosebumps. Taking her word that there was going to be a pop quiz tomorrow, I made sure that I attained my book and worksheets to study with that night. The next day, as promised, she handed out a short pop quiz. It was not as challenging as she tried to make it sound. It presented only five multiple choice questions on it. Once we finished our quizzes, she told us to read the next chapter silently. Once I finished my quiz at the speed of light, I decided to finish other homework, since I preferred to read at home anyway. So while the rest of my class was reading, I worked on homework. Thirty minutes later, I completely finished all of my other assignments, so I decided to start reading the chapter. After nearly two paragraphs in, my teacher interrupted the class to see if everyone finished reading the chapter. Unknown to me, the chapter was fairly short and everyone, but me, finished it. Raising my hand slowly, I told her that I had not finished reading. Everyone in my class turned around and stared at me. The teacher asked me how far I was in the chapter and how much time I needed to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Personal Narrative: My Writing As A Writer During this spring semester, I have grown in many ways as a writer, and a student. I have started to realize, and accept the flaws that I have created in my writing. In the past, I never looked into my writings and saw my problems, and if I did, I did not accept that they were problems. In my writing pieces in the past, I was very hard–headed about what I thought was correct versus what was actually correct. I have also become More familiar with different formatting options on Microsoft Word to create a more professional piece or writing. However, figuring out all the parts of writing and making them work together is the most difficult part of writing. A writer can influence a reader in many ways using many different strategies. They may be influenced with emotion, logic, and experience. A main way of influencing your reader is to support your claims thoroughly. At the beginning of the semester, and through part of the semester, I would come up with a good main point, but I would lack Good supporting detail to my claims. After being in this class, I realize more that I need to come up with good supporting evidence to back up my claims. When writing, I have started to look at my writing in different ways. • 15. My Vacation to Nassau, Bahamas When I was in eighth grade I went on my first trip out of the country to Nassau, Bahamas. Going on this trip was one of the most exciting and unforgettable times of my life. Not only was it a fun experience, it was also the first time I realized that I love traveling. While there I was lucky enough to visit many places, such as Blue Lagoon Island and the beautiful Atlantis Resort, and immerse myself in the Bahamian culture. My time in The Bahamas was not my only great memory from that trip. The journey to get to The Bahamas itself was also quite interesting. There was only one week before I left for my trip to the Bahamas. My dad had already booked our trip and he told me we were staying in the little hotel across the street from the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas. To be honest I was pretty upset about it. Although before leaving for our vacation I was given the great news from my dad that we were not staying at the hotel across from the resort and we were actually staying at the huge Atlantis Royal Towers section of the Atlantis Resort with a great view. This news had completely brightened my day. Two days after finding out the fantastic news we left for the airport at around three o'clock in the morning. We flew out of O'Hare International Airport so we had to ride on a tram to get the airport where something happened that, to me, is rather coincidental. Since it was only three in the morning there was no one on the tram except for my parents and I, along with a young couple. Once we got off the tram we made our way to the gate for our flight to Miami, Florida to board the connecting flight to Nassau. When we got on the plane we recognized the people in our row as the same young couple we saw on the tram earlier in the morning! After landing and making our way to the connecting flight we noticed that the young couple from the flight was going to the Bahamas as well. I just thought that the encounter was a pretty interesting coincidence and is something that I will probably remember for quite a while. After experiencing the memorable and somewhat coincidental journey to the Bahamas we decided to take a boat from Nassau to Blue Lagoon Island. I would describe Blue Lagoon Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Example Of A Narrative Essay College A narrative essay is a story that is true and has meaning, whether it be to prove a point, send a message, explain an event that's happened, or entertain the reader. Most narrative essays are written to convey a story from a past time that sends a message to not only the reader, but the writer themselves. There are multiple ways in which the you can come up with a topic, it all depends on the style you're most comfortable with. It also taught me to never give up and follow your heart. And lastly, it taught me the importance of a team to help me through the tough practices and mental battles. When choosing my topic, I wrote down 3 main events that were important in my life that impacted me and shaped myself into the person I am today. The 3 I chose were: breaking the 3200–meter record for my school, breaking the 4x800 record with my team, and lastly, moving from Poinciana to Kissimmee and leaving all my friends to take on a new chapter in my life. The topic I chose to write is one I feel very passionate about and the single memory I can recall the most. Although breaking the 4x800 record with my team was a memorable moment and the first record I'd ever broken at my school, nothing compared to the feeling I got when I broke an individual record that was held by my own coach. I had a sense of relief and happiness, not just for myself, but my coach as well. It felt as if I didn't just break the record for the sake of me personally, but for him too. May have taken 21 years to be broken, but I'd say it sure was worth Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. First Person Narrative Essay The first–person narrative is a story told from the first–person perspective. The narrator is speaking directly about him or herself. The first–person narrator can be either subjective or objective. The third–objective narrative is a story told by a nonparticipating character. The narrator is usually detached from the story. Sometimes, the narrator completely penetrates the mind of a character. Third–person narration is often used in documentaries. The omniscient narrators are often not part of the story but are all–knowing observers. These narrators tell the reader all the facts we need to know to fully understand the story. The story unfolds by itself in a chronological order. The narration in classical movies is more obvious. There is a discreet storyteller who help direct the story and keep everything on track. In formalist movies, the narrator is manipulative. The narrator often destroys the chronological order of the story and restructures events to emphasize a point. The narration in The Usual Suspects is conspicuous. Verbal Kint is the narrator as well as one of the main characters in the film. He is manipulative because the story is told from Verbal's point of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
