This document provides an agenda and overview for a virtual professional development session. It discusses various tools that will be covered, including improvisation, storytelling, social network analysis, and ethnographic mapping. Questions that a discovery and action dialogue may ask are also listed. The power of storytelling to capture complexity and the "TRIZ" method of defining an unwanted result and eliminating similarities to the current system to find new solutions are explained. Sustainability of efforts over time through continued involvement of the core group and sharing of stories is also discussed. An example story from Einstein Medical Center is provided about observing safe donning and doffing of PPE by a transporter named Jasper Palmer.

13. “The Palmer Method” Story from Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. We observed patients and staff -- in isolation precautions for MRSA & C-Diff -- in rooms on 4 east and west. Day shift on December 11th. We noticed overflowing waste receptacles in some of the rooms. Often, care providers stated they did not gown and glove because they did not know how to safely dispose of dirty PPE during an “overflow.” We noticed Jasper Palmer (a transporter) demonstrating an artistic, safe, and efficient way to don and doff PPE… resulting in an easily discarded “softball.” The Palmer method may be a simple and elegant solution that others can learn quickly with no additional expense.
