Rheumatic heart disease is a preventable disease that disproportionately affects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Australia, with over 4,500 currently living with the disease or recent acute rheumatic fever. The national alliance's vision is for no Australian child to die from rheumatic heart disease. It advocates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, targets to end the disease, funding for an action plan, and immediate action in high-risk communities to treat sore throats and skin infections that can lead to the disease.
