WSO2Con 2016: Breaking Down Silos with Service Oriented ArchitectureWSO2
Individual, disparate systems used to be a common occurrence in the traditional IT landscape where systems were designed to work in isolation. These systems depended on proprietary standards and protocols making integration with external systems time consuming, expensive and less scalable.
The notion of system silos was soon replaced by systems driven by services. This gave birth to an architectural pattern known as service oriented architecture (SOA). SOA was designed to use standard protocols and specifications at integration points which allowed systems to communicate with each other in a much more flexible manner.
In this session we will look at the drawbacks of having siloed architecture and how they can be avoided by moving to SOA. We will also look at how SOA can bring more agility to an organization and make way for new business opportunities. We will also talk about how SOA can be broken down further to a finer grained microservices architecture and how your organization can benefit from this using the WSO2 suite of products.
Microservices: Aren't Microservices Just SOA?Chris Sterling
The buzz around Microservices has blazed through the software development industry. Questions about whether its just SOA renamed and how micro is “micro” have blocked out the valuable principles of the Microservices architecture approach. This talk will focus on how Microservices architecture principles have extended beyond SOA and enable DevOps and Agile software development.

MULTIVIEW SOA : EXTENDING SOA USING A PRIVATE CLOUD COMPUTING AS SAAS AND DAASijseajournal
This work is based on two major areas, the Multiview Service Oriented Architecture and the combination between the computing cloud and MV-SOA. Thus, it is suggested to extend firstly the service oriented architecture (SOA) into an architecture called MV-SOA by adding two components, the Multiview service generator, whose role is to transform the classic service into Multiview service, and the data base, this component seeks to stock all of consumer service information. It is also suggested to combine the computing cloud and Multiview Service Oriented Architecture MVSOA. To reach such combination, the
MVSOA architecture was taken and we added to the client-side a private cloud in SaaS and DaaS.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Overview
This document architectural background, links, and resources for building loosely coupled and reliable
applications, creating distributed systems, and integrating software systems with NServiceBus.
What is SOA 2.0?
In classic SOA, applications exposed their business methods to other applications via web services. This opened
communication, but led to un-maintainable fine-grained integration points, temporal coupling (both systems
have to be up at the same time for either to work), and performance bottlenecks. SOA 2.0 combines
SOA with event-driven architectures (EDA), in which applications (services) publish events to which
other applications can subscribe without being tied together in time. Read this excellent MSDN article for details:
Event-Driven Architecture: SOA Through the Looking Glass.
What is NServiceBus?
A service bus is by nature decentralized, not to be confused with a centralized broker that does ETL and routing,
like BizTalk. NServiceBus can be thought of as the ethernet that enables applications to communicate with each
other organically. NServiceBus provides:
- Publish/subscribe communication
- Reliable messaging with automatic re-tries of failed messages
- Second-level retries for minimizing support effort
- Decentralized workflow/orchestration via Sagas
- Message tracking and failed-message re-submission with ServiceInsight
- Performance monitoring with ServicePulse
