A teacher in Baltimore transformed the lives of students from the slums. In the 1920s, college students evaluated 200 boys from the slums and said they had no chance of success. Twenty-five years later, it was found that 176 of the 180 boys who could be located had achieved success as lawyers, doctors, and businessmen. The professor interviewed each man and they all credited their success to a teacher who had loved and believed in them. When interviewed, the elderly teacher said her simple method was that she loved those boys.
A teacher in the Baltimore slums transformed her students' lives by loving them. A study found 200 boys from the slums were unlikely to succeed. 25 years later, most had become successful professionals. The original researcher found the boys to ask what accounted for their success. They all credited a teacher who loved them. When he found the now-elderly teacher, she said her "magic formula" was simply that she loved those boys.
Keynote address (Feb, 2016) to the educators in the Fort Nelson school district. We all know that we cannot teach a child without a concection... without a relationship. In the hustle and bustle of our jobs as educators, we often forget our why, the reason we got into education, of trying to make a difference with kids. In this talk, 6 Keys to Connecting are shared and discussed with the challenge of creating a more positive climate and better connections with kids in our classrooms, schools, and organizations.
This document discusses different types of functions and their domains. It defines one-to-one and many-to-one functions, noting that for functions no two ordered pairs can have the same x-value. It also discusses identifying functions using the vertical line test and graphs. The document then discusses maximal domains, hybrid functions with different rules for different parts of the domain, and odd and even functions.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help boost feelings of calmness and well-being.

This document describes GB780189 (A), a 1957 patent for improvements to fuel injection systems in internal combustion engines. It aims to dispense with separate air compressors and fuel pumps by using a portion of compressed air in the cylinder to inject and atomize fuel. For four-stroke engines, sub-atmospheric pressure during the intake stroke draws fuel through a metering valve into the injector. For two-stroke engines, a low pressure pump forces fuel through the metering valve during the exhaust/transfer stroke. The timing of fuel injection is determined by an injector obstructing an opening to the combustion chamber at the end of the compression stroke.

Client-centered therapy, also known as person-centered therapy, was developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940s-1950s. It is a nondirective approach where the client takes an active role in treatment and the therapist provides empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. The goal is to help clients resolve incongruences and fully accept themselves so they can better understand and express their feelings, lower defensiveness, and develop more positive relationships. The therapist listens without judgment and helps the client gain self-awareness and autonomy through the therapeutic process.

21st Century in a Lower School Classroomlsv43edl669
This document discusses 21st century skills and how to incorporate them into a lower school classroom. It provides examples of how different grades are using technology like iPads, laptops, discussion boards, and flipped classrooms. Ideas for project-based learning and assessments using rubrics are also presented. The document encourages starting small with 21st century skills and sharing ideas with other teachers.
“If they would just listen to us...”: Turning Internal Client Relationships i...Michael Powers
You’re smart. (You do work in higher ed, after all.) You know your stuff. You have ideas. New ideas. Good ideas. And yet—your clients (internal or external) don’t want your ideas. Or your style guide. They know what they want: the same thing they’ve been doing for the last ten years. Why won’t they just listen to you?
The answer is finding ways to turn to client relationships into real collaborations. When we move from a conformance mindset to a collaboration mindset, we can find ourselves in the position to do our best work—work our clients will love.
What you’ll learn:
• How to move from a conformance to a collaboration mindset.
• Using workshop techniques (like job stories, pair writing, mad libs, and more) in meeting settings.
• How to uncover the real problems your clients are facing, and solve them—together.
The document provides an overview of 10 different tech tools that can help tackle challenges in the classroom, including tools for research, creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving. It then proceeds to describe each tool in more detail through text and images, highlighting their main features and how they can be used for educational purposes. The document concludes by emphasizing the importance of choosing the right tools and keeping up with new emerging technologies.

This document provides guidance on how not to write a college admissions essay. It discusses that the essay, along with extracurricular activities and short answers, allow applicants to stand out from their academic credentials alone. The document then covers topics like understanding the audience of admissions officers, using creative nonfiction techniques to tell a true story, and dos and don'ts for the essay. It includes sample essay prompts and provides a writing workshop for students to develop potential essay ideas.
The Networked Teacher was a presentation given at the ICTEV2012 conference. It explores how to be successfully networked - a digital badge, an online space, where to find people to network with and examples of successful networking.

This document provides guidance on how not to write a college admissions essay. It discusses that while transcripts are important, essays allow colleges to learn about the applicant as an individual. The document outlines what makes a strong essay, including focusing on a specific experience, showing rather than telling, and knowing the audience of admissions officers. It also lists essay dos and don'ts. Finally, it provides students an activity to help generate ideas for their own college admissions essay.

and had fiery, red hair. One day, he was walking in the woods near his home when he came
across a basket filled with many colorful eggs. They sort of looked like Easter Eggs.
Landon looked around, wondering who had dropped the basket with so many neat eggs in
it. They sure were beautiful to look at. After some time of wondering what to do, he decided to
take the basket home with him.
On his way home, he came across a large group of older boys. One of them shouted,
“Hey, Red! Where are you going?” Landon didn’t like having his hair color made fun of. So he
tucked his head, and shyly tried to walk away.
At that, one boy (the one who shouted) came up to Landon. “Where do you think you are
going, little kid?”
“I am not little,” said Landon.
“What have you got in the basket? Let me see those,” said the older boy. All his friends
laughed. The older boy then grabbed the basket from Landon saying, “What do you think this is,
Easter?” His friends laughed again. “Look here, boys,” showing the eggs to his pals. “Looks like
Red here has some pretty, little Easter Eggs.”
“They aren’t really mine,” replied Landon. “I just found them on the side of the road back
there.”
“Yeah, sure. Likely story, Red. Well, I think I will take one of them off your hands. What
do you think of that?”
Landon didn’t like that idea one bit. He figured that the eggs in the basket were his eggs
now. He didn’t like people stealing things from him, and he definitely didn’t like being made fun
of.
The older boy grabbed an egg from the basked saying, “Wow, this look like a pretty cool
egg. I bet it’s tasty too.” He cracked the egg open, peeled it, and took a bite.
Landon shouted, “I hope you choke on it. That’s what you deserve for stealing from me.”
Suddenly, the older boy dropped the basket. Both of his hands went to his throat. He gagged. The
older boy’s friends slapped him on the back in hopes of helping him breathe.
During the confusion, Landon grabbed the basket and ran away.
