5. Mechanical Engineer
There are many reasons that I
am suited to be a mechanical
engineer. Each of these reasons is
tied to my personality, interests,
current employment and the job
market.
6. Mechanical Engineer
First of all, my personality is suited to this career path. This
is because I am very self motivated. I also think
mathematically and logically. This means that I analyze
things and I do this from a math perspective. I am also a
good team player and leader.
7. Mechanical Engineer
My interests are also tied to this career path. My biggest
interest is cross country mountain bike training. Training
involves a lot of self motivation. You are also always
making sure that you don’t over train while you consider
everything about how hard you can train. Finally I am
always thinking about how to be faster and how any
equipment skill or activity could be improved.
8. Mechanical Engineer
Next, my current jobs are already related to this career path.
As a bike shop mechanic, I am constantly working with
things that are engineered. I am also always diagnosing
problems and solving them. Finally, I have to work as a
team with the other employees to coordinate with each
other.
9. Mechanical Engineer
Finally, engineers are needed on the job market now. This
means that there are a lot of job openings for this type of
work. Because of this it is easier to get a job in this field.
10. Part time / Full time bike racer
There are lots of reasons that I am
suited to race part time or full time.
Once again this is related to my
personality, interests, current
employment and my interview for
this class. This career path could
also be related to another career so
that it is a part time job.
11. Part time / Full time bike racer
Racing is very related to my personality. Part of my
personality is that I always like to improve at anything and I
pay attention to details. This is important because you need
to be a student of the sport. Next, I am very aware of how I
feel at any moment. Because of this, I am less likely to over
train even. Finally, I am very self motivated. This helps
with my training because mental skills are very important.
12. Part time / Full time bike racer
My interests are also related to this career path. I always
like to do sports, especially ones that are outside in the
weather. I also like using my body and doing stuff that are
physical. Finally I like anything involving math and
science. All of this combined with my personality means
that I enjoy training and racing.
13. Part time / Full time bike racer
My current employment is also related to this career path.
First, I work at C.O.B. Bike Shop as a mechanic. Because
of this, I am immersed in the cycling industry. I also
know a lot about how most bikes work and how to repair
anything that happens. Next, I work as a ski instructor at
Hudson Bay Mountain. A big part of this job is customer
relations. This is important to secure sponsorships (see
question #1 in my interview with Craig Richey). It is also
a sport and personal improvement related job. Because of
this, I am suited to try this career path if I progress as an
athlete to this level.
14. Part time / Full time bike racer
My interview with Craig Richey also shows that this
career path suits me. There isn’t as much information
about what you need to follow this career path because I
already know what is needed. I have already raced at a
provincial level and placed third. I also plan on racing BC
cup races this season. Craig mention that it is important
to race different disciplines. I have raced everything from
marathon to 4 cross which are at either end of the
spectrum. Finally I have links to different companies and
I already have a large brand as a sponsor. Because of this,
I am less likely to have to race as a privateer.

15. My Career Paths
The best possible career path would be if these
two careers could be combined. If I could work as
an engineer while I race and work together with
companies it would be the ideal job.
