My Teaching Philosophy
The education of today’s children is very important to me. My philosophy of teaching is to
create an environment that allows for supervised exploration in a positive and encouraging
environment. Children learn actively, they need to use their senses; they need to move, interact,
create and invent. I believe that learning occurs in situations that are both intentional and
unstructured. The goal of my teaching has been to provide learners with both types of learning
opportunities in a safe, friendly atmosphere. This will develop their sense of self-worth and
promote respect for themselves and others. I hope to foster the children under my care to enable
them to make wise decisions and enhance their thinking skills. Activities and curriculum will be
based on reaching children of all developmental levels. Children will be allowed to progress at
their own pace and will be encouraged to try new and enriching experiences. Children will be
encouraged to use their imagination and express their individuality. They will be given ample
opportunity to play and interact with others to enhance their social skills. Appropriate manners
will be encouraged and respect for others will be maintained at all times. I will be a positive role
model through language, manners and tone of voice. My classroom will be clean and organized.
Children will be encouraged to reach learning goals. My responsibility is to lend support and
encourage individuality and growth thru age/developmentally appropriate activities. I want to
develop self-regulation, problem solving abilities and emotional competence.
Observation, anecdotal notes and DRDP assessments will be used to monitor growth and
development. Assessments will help identify a child who might benefit from intervention. Early
detection of problems allows for timely referrals and extra attention can be focused on activities
that strengthen the child’s skills. Assessments will also provide a reference point to gauge
growth in the classroom as well as provide information to parents and specialists. Information
will be available to the parents regarding in-home activities that will support/enhance their
child’s developmental level. It is my desire to help students reach their full potential and become
happy, productive lifelong learners!
Feeling included and connected to the school and staff is a very important part of building
a bridge between school and home. Language can often be a barrier to this. We want families to
feel welcomed in our classrooms. Daily interactions are important. I will make it a goal to learn
simple phrases like hello, good bye, thank you, etc. in other languages poplar in my area. A
simple Hello and a smile can make someone feel special. We need to make sure we are including
the families to all events. It is important to provide all written communication in the families’
native language and make sure it states an interpreter will be present. Parents that feel included
and involved in classroom activities and events not only help the family feel valued but also
benefits the student as well.
Health and safety are given top priority. Love, respect and consistency will be the basis for
effective discipline. Positive feedback will be provided for appropriate conduct and redirection
will be used for negative behaviors. It is my policy to maintain confidentiality of all student files
and personal information. Children of all race, physical ability, gender and religion will be
included. The early years of children’s lives are the most critical and it is my commitment to lay
a strong foundation to build their education on.
