The movie My Sister's Keeper follows the Fitzgerald family as their daughter Kate battles cancer from age 2. When Kate needs a kidney transplant at age 15, her sister Anna, who was conceived via in vitro fertilization to be a donor match, hires a lawyer to sue for medical emancipation to refuse donating her kidney. Kate ultimately passes away before the case is decided, having wanted to stop treatment and let herself die in peace. The family continues to honor Kate's memory annually on her birthday.
