1. My integrative approach
Integr’Help gathers my multiple competences in Bibliotherapy, Emotional Therapy
and Orthopedagogy wich allow me to help both children and adults whom experience
affective disorders causing adaptation and/or learning difficulties.
Orthopedagogyis a science of education which aims to assess and assist people
who have or may have learning difficulties.
Bibliotherapy is a creative therapy based on a psychodynamic method which aims
to treat emotional difficulties. It uses the healing powers inherent in art, in particular
reading and writing of texts, in order to bypass the defenses of the patient and strengthen
his/her adaptive forces.
Orthopedagogy and Bibliotherapy are intended for patients of all ages:children,
adolescents, adults and elderly.
Alya is a source of destabilization for new immigrants. Besides the joy that follows the
realization of a dream, Alya causes personaldisruption due to the loss of status, role, identity,
values, and skills with the surrounding society and culture. Adapting to a new environment is
a serious source of emotional stress, and it frequently happens that we cannot cope alone with
all the changes. Thus, we may feel the need to be accompanied by a competent professional.
Having experienced myself, a long time ago, the shock of Alya and having accompanied
immigrants of all ages during their key period of adaptation, I developed my integrative
approach * Integr'Help that aims to assist and accompany school, social, family and
professional integration.
The special case of children olim is typical of the experiences all olim live, even adults.
Indeed they face a new situation to which they are not adequately prepared and do not have
the appropriate tools to help them cope. At school children feel defeated, resulting in a sense
of inferiority in comparison to their Israeli peers or better integrated children. This complex
impression influences their personality, character and reactions thus changing their perception
of themselves and the outside world. It promotes the development of an emotional disorder
that interfere both their tranquility and academic success in a vicious circle.
My approach is to identify the difficulties the patient presents in terms of language
acquisition, general knowledge, learning strategies and cognitive processing. In this context
2. my approach equally defines the teaching methods to avoid if they aren’t adapted to students
logic. In addition to simple teaching, my approach also identifies the cause of symptoms.
Thanks to bibliotherapy, I try to understand the emotional, motivational, social and familial
factors that may be an obstacle to integration of the patient. This allows me to accompany
him through his troubling experience. This approach is particularly helpful for a student who
experiences difficulty keeping up with grade level.
Thus, taking into account each student’s specific background, the support I offer allows him
to progress both academically and in terms of his sense of harmony and wholeness.
This approach is appropriate to all immigrants regardless of age:
- For adults with integration difficulties both personally and professionally.
- For children with learning difficulties as a result of emotional stress due to the
considerable changes they face.
- For teenagers
- For young graduates
- For retired elderly
- For families
