Essay on A Girl Named Paige
I walk through the doors to the fourth building, aiming towards the bathroom but instead,
continue to the hallway next to the library and sit across and diagonal from this girl who always
makes me curious with the way she looks, the way she acts. Everyday I see her, sitting alone. It s
only seven thirteen and I know her friends will join her soon; I stay sitting across from her.
Everyday, my curiosity grows. I see her all day and I know next to nothing about her. She sits alone
most of the time, an almost forlorn lookplastered to her face. Alone now, I know she sees me. Her
eyes dart up at me as I sit then return to their staring at a random splat on the floor, wall,
anywhere. Part of me wants to think she s just socially awkward and... Show more content on

They converse about fictional characters and how marvelous they are. Tired of this
conversation, I decide to venture elsewhere, although I intend to keep an eye on Paige in first
hour. During first hour, Paige is just as vivacious, even more so than earlier. I notice then how
small she is. Slim, but not puny, and somewhat tall is her body stature. She s just small enough
to be swallowed by any crowd. The dark clothes make her shrink into herself. The incessant
hoodies she wears contribute to absorbing her. I suppose it reflects her personality, always drawn
in, like a tortoise in a shell. I wonder how her friend, Courtney, is friends with her. They seem
polar opposites. Courtney looks outgoing, confident. As I look at Paige, I can tell she isn t. I can
see her low self esteem in the way she slouches and the dullness in her eyes when she s
contemplating. On one hand, I feel sympathetic for her. It s as if life for her is so gruesome. On
the other hand, however, her demeanor is disgusting. Low self esteem is the least attractive
quality in others. She seems comfortable, so why is it she always seems so sorrowfully somber?
I shake my head and stand as the bell rings, heading to second hour. On our way to second hour, I
walk behind Paige. Once she steps outside the classroom her face instantly takes on that
disheartening expression. I wonder silently, is her life really that poisonous? Does she return home
and act this way? I

Classical Hollywood Narrative
Classical Hollywood narrative has been around since 1917, it has been the most common way
people see cinema today. The reason this movie styles has remained as the most common is
because it achieves the job by making the viewers sink deep into the film. Classical hollywood
narrative consists of a clear plot, including beginning, middle, and end. In the beginning the film
shows the watcher the surrounding including the lifestyle and everything else going on during the
films time period. This helps the viewer to become aware and in essence enter 6he film and make
the film more realistic than it is. Once the environment has been set up by the film, the film moves
on to the second stage which is the problem. The second stage is where the main character... Show

In classical hollywood narratives the camera positions frontal shots in order for the audiences to
feel connected and sucked into the film. However, Tarantino has done the opposite by showing
multiple scenes with no frontal shots. The first time the film presents this kind of shot is when
Vincent is having a full on conversation with Jules (0:13:47), this is absolutely something that will
never happen in a classical hollywood narrative. The purpose of a classical hollywood narrative is
to connect the audiences to each of the characters, and to each scene, however tarantino neglects
to achieve this. This film constantly makes its audience become aware that the film is only a
film, it does not achieve to make its viewers connect and get dragged into to film. Another time
the film does this kind of behavior is when the film first introduces Marcellus, once again the film
describes its audience from being fully engage (0:21:15). Marcellus Wallace is one of the most
important and main characters however the audience is deprived of full knowledge of this
character. The film constantly has these kind of rear shots, definitely not a characteristic of
classical hollywood narratives. These kind of shots however do create a suspense for each of the
characters, it builds up curiosity in the audiences to see what they look like. For example the scene
where Vincent finally meets Mia (0:32:20), it takes 2 minutes for the film to finally reveal the face
of the mysterious main character. Despite the fact that Tarantino defied many traits from classical
Hollywood narrative, he was still able to connect the audience with the film. In the same scene
where Vincent first encounters Mia, the film introduces Mia in a mysterious way, the audience
meets mia at the same moment as Vincent. There are many other characteristics that Tarantino uses
in Pulp Fiction that connect the

It All Happened Again
It all happened quickly. One minute it was just Asami and I, the next, we floated in an endless
room with billions of little stars scattered about. I wasn t scared. Somehow, it felt familiar, as if I
ve been here before. I felt a little nagging in the back of my mind as if I was forgetting something.
But what was it? Someone patted my shoulder.
Korra where are we? What happened? Asami asked.
I don t exactly know, but it s okay, we re not in danger.
Suddenly a beautiful spirit appears in front of Asami. It adorned a flowing white dress that had
opals embedded into it. She was shining so bright it was hard to look at her directly. Immediately I
was on guard, determined to make sure this spirit would not hurt Asami.

Effects Of The Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow laws has had a major influence on the United States based on how much harm than
good it did during its time. The Jim Crow laws were in favor of white people more than black, in
state and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. This in turn caused more
harm than good because black peoplehad so many restrictions on what the can do while living in
the US. The Jim Crow lawswere based on segregation of public schools, public places, and public
transportation, and the segregation of restrooms, restaurants, and drinking fountains for whites and
blacks. The U.S. military was also segregated. The Jim Crow laws caused white to feel superior to
black while black thought they were inferior.
African Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These laws had a lot of impact on people sociologically because the government would not believe
them no matter what the case was. They saw all black people as inferior during this time and
would stay the same as time went on.
Segregation between white and black people during the 1890 s was a sad time for most black
people because they could not eat at the same restaurants, use the same railroads or bus stations
or even restrooms. Black people were, restricted to only using what was available to them and
nothing else. As time went on the Democratic Party played a part in the evolution of The Jim
Crow laws. During the 1940 s black people was no threat to white Virginians mainly because they
were disfranchised by the new state constitution in 1902. By having this new constitution in place
horrible acts such as lynchings became a means of keeping blacks in their place. The Democratic
Party during this time caused more harm than good instead of helping black people succeed they
instead try to keep them tied down.
But when the twenties and eventually the thirties came around most white southerners did not want
to adapt to the changes that were going on at the time. Under the Jim Crow laws most white people
thought at the time that they would eventually get attacked from within or even without. Which
was a huge problem to them, they wanted to keep control of blacks because they saw

Victimless Crimes Analysis
Crimes are not an opinion, but in fact, are a matter of law. Although changes in society s norms
and value influence the development of new laws, people continue to commit crimes. People
commit crimes for many reasons, such as crimes of love and passion, jealousy, and money. The
degree of crimes varies sharply from murder and rape to white collar crimes like insider trading and
embezzlement.
Victimless Crimes
According to Cochran, Mayer, Carr, and Cayer (2012), victimless crimes are willingly acts that
violate society s moral principles. My employer s location, in the business district of Denver, had
many occurrences of victimless crimes. Specifically, in 2014, surrounding parking lots experienced
several early morning automobile break ins. Consequently, the Denver Police Department (DPD)
provided safety sessions for the building tenants. Essentially, the DPD safety meeting suggested
that a good number of break ins are the work of drug addicts who run out of money for their next
fix and are seeking to steal personal property to cash in on their fix. Further, the morning break ins
are common in the business district because addicts realize most cars are those of the working
class. Although the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) crime data does not report larceny
theft specifically, it does report a 1.0% increase in motor vehicle theft in 2014 from 2013 (Shugart,
n.d.). Based on the CBI s data, it is difficult to delineate if the increase in the 2014 motor vehicle
thefts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of street crimes intensifies my fears more than a white collar crime, such as embezzlement or

Demetrio Macias Characters In The Underdogs
Leadership Roles of Demetrio Macias

LAH 2020
Professor Emma Sordo
November 4th, 2014
In The Underdogs written by Mariano Azuela, the protagonist, Demetrio Macias is symbolized as
the fuel of the Mexican Revolution. Heroes like Macias gave hope to the oppressed people of
Mexico by fighting for what they felt they truly deserved, but, ironically, later becomes what he
was fighting against. He does show great leadership and determination to oppress Pancho Villa s
army. Pancho Villa, the dictator of Mexico during this revolutionary time, also shows prolific
leadership qualities and care for his people; much like Demetrio Macias. However, at times Villa
can be a ferocious general who destroyed villiages and killed innocent victims, he shows his
compassion who helped those in need and rescued orphans providing them with food, education,
and a home. Pancho Villa was a leader who only asked for your loyalty and trust, but was cruel
when people tried to oppose him. Venustiano Carranza was another great leader that was a natural
at commanding his followers through the struggle of liberty. He did not show any lack of a ... Show

their problems and how much trust they have him. They also have a lot of faith in Macias as in

Marian Relief
This article provided new information about Marian reliefs that I had never considered, before. In
Johnson s writing, she describes the role of Marian relief sculptures in fifteenth century Italy. The
most interesting aspects of these sculptures was the role they played in worship and marital rituals.
In this essay, I will discuss Johnson s writings about the necessity of naturalistic sculptures and
Marian reliefs part in these rituals. As described by Johnson, Italian s increasingly strong urge to
become more in tuned with God and JesusChrist became apparent through the sculpted reliefs that
were created for public and private worship. This need resulted in a more naturalistic approach to
statues that concerned the Madonna and

Faux Ma Soeur Analysis
Virginity and sex are common themes in popular media. Whether a direct discussion of the social
expectations of virginity are expressed in a movie, the norms and expectations will surface
indirectly nonetheless. The French film ГЂ Ma Soeur challenges the media s lack of direct
discussion of virginity and sexuality in youth, especially young girls. The story of ГЂ Ma Soeur
follows two sisters on vacation, one who is attractive and thin and the other who appears
overweight and plain looking. The attractive older sister begins a relationship with an older man,
and both sisters express their perception of virginityduring the film. From Catherine Breillat s
forthright discussion and presentation of society s double standards and taboos surrounding... Show

Virginity as a process allows a certain freedom in relationships and self discovery. As an indirect
application of queer theory, process virginity allows a challenge to normative expressions of
virginity. Carpenter s queer interviewees describe their loss of virginity in terms of oral or anal
sex, even when the most popular narrative is the loss of virginity through penile penetration of
the vagina (805). The interviewees constructed their own virginity narratives independently of the
heterosexual and normative prerequisites. On the other hand, virginity as a process and as a
product of queer theory does avoid necessary discussions and deliberations on heterosexual
virginity. As Kitzinger and Wilkinson explore in their article Virgins and Queers: Rehabilitating
Heterosexuality? in Gender and Society, applying queer theory to sex is not always an
appropriate and beneficial analysis. Of the two major responses to virginity as a process, Kitzinger
and Wilkinson present the consequences of queer theory on sex. The inclusivity of queer virginity
evades the discussion of heterosexuality and its pervasiveness in society ( Kitzinger et al 457).
Virginity as a process is a popular personal explanation of sexual activity in the queer community,
but, when applied broadly and to certain contexts, queer theory does not provide a viable narrative.
Expanding virginity as a process includes heterosexual and heteroromantic individuals within the
queer community. Heterosexuality becomes a challenge to the norm and a facet of queer theory as
a method of inclusivity. However, indiscriminate inclusivity effectively erases the notion of
normative and, therefore, the ability to challenge the normative. In essence, process virginity may
be the chosen queer perception of virginity, but this perception does not provide the full story of
virginity for the queer lens. Much

Neil Armstrong As A Hero
This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. (Neil Armstrong). In the 1960s, the
race began between America and the Soviet Union to see who could be the first to launch humans
to the moon. Several years later, America achieved a goal that was believed unlikely and almost
impossible a few years earlier. During the 1960 s Neil Armstrongchanged the world and became an
American hero.
Neil Armstrong had a long journey before he got to take those first steps on the moon. As a
child, he moved with his family to several Ohio communities before they settled in Wapakoneta
when Neil was 13 years old ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ). Neil Armstrong s family moved a lot
around Ohio until they finally found a place to settle. Neil was only 13 years old. Moving could
have made it hard for Armstrong to make friends and he could have had a hard time dealing with
school. Also, according to www.notablebiographies.com, Neil Armstrong was the oldest of three
children. He had a sister named June and a brother named Dean. His parent s names were Stephen
and Viola Armstrong. His sister June, was four years younger than him. Later on, In 1947,
Armstrong entered Purdue University. He began studies in aeronautical engineering. But in 1949,
the United States Navy called him to active duty. Armstrong became a Navy pilot and was sent to
Korea in 1950, near the start of the Korean War.In 1952, Armstrong returned to Purdue. He earned
a bachelor s degree in aeronautical engineering there in 1955. Also in 1970, he earned a master s
degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Southern California ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ).
Before Neil Armstrong finished school, he was in the Navy, but cared enough about his education
to continue it 2 years later. He even returned to school 15 years later. This lead to him getting a
master s degree and a bachelor s degree. The beginning of Armstrong s life led to many different
accomplishments for his time. Neil Armstrong had many life accomplishments other than walking
on the moon.To begin, Neil Armstrong is known for being the first man to walk on the moon,

The Demise of Macbeth.
Macbeth s Demise.
From the beginning of the play, and in the progression of the plotline, it is clear that the character
of Macbeth is in the downward spiral into evil. Macbeth s evil and inner demons originate from a
combination of the prophecy of the three witches, as well as his own lofty ambitions. However, it
is the pressure from power hungry Lady Macbeth, and the murder of King Duncan that help
transform Macbeth into the ruthless and immoral killer that he becomes. As the play continues he
shows less and less remorse and begins committing more serious and sinister crimes, such as the
killing of his best friend, and the innocent. By the end of the play, Macbeth is completely consumed
by the evil, which subsequently ends his reign as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After this the great changes in Macbeth as he makes his transition to the ruthless tyrant that he is
at the end are more obvious. Shortly after the murder, Macbeth becomes a ruthless king, filled
with great paranoia. Now he remembers the other part of the prophecy when the witches tell
Banquo, thou shalt get kings, though thou not be none... (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 67 68). The new
paranoid Macbeth decides that Banquo must be eliminated to preserve his own power and royal
lineage. Our fears in Banquo stick deep...to make them Kings, the seeds of Banqou Kings! Rather
then though so, come, fate into the list, and champion me to th utterance! (Act 3, Scene 1, Line
49 72) The difference between the ways he dealt with this incident and the way he dealt with
Duncan is that this time his decision is quick, no longer second guessing his decision or showing
any signs of guilt, even though now he is killing his best friend. Macbeth does not consult his
plans with Lady Macbeth either; whose torment has taken her down the path of insanity, and
subsequently suicide. Murder has now become his nature, his empathy engulfed by his evil
ambitions. Oh full of scorpions in my mind dear wife! (Act 3, Scene 2, Line 36). This is the last
time in the play that any remnants of guilt are seen in Macbeth, his guilt presents as another
hallucination, this time of Banquo s bloody ghost. It is this final presence of guilt in this part of the

Rwanda Case Study
In December 2015, the President accepted an offer from People s Republic of China (PRC) of
military training assistance intended to support troops engaged in peacekeeping operations (PKO)
and counterterrorism efforts in Africa. Given that Rwanda ranks fifth in the world, among United
Nations PKO troop contributing countries, and also engaged in counterterrorism efforts in the
world, Rwanda will inevitably benefit from this Chinese assistance package. Therefore, on 22
November 2017, the National Defence Council will meet to review strategies to engage the PRC

Another important factor is that terrorist acts, violent extremism, and radicalization are active in the
region and pose a serious threat. These two endeavors, PKO and counterterrorism require a lot of
resources and commitment. So Rwanda maintains a commitment to the world s peace and security
by contributing peacekeepers to both United Nations (UN) and African union (AU), and to combat
terrorism in the region. However, to maintain the contribution of troops in terms of quantity and
quality in PKO and combating terrorism require significant financial resources that Rwanda does
not have. It is this background, the president accepted the Chinese assistance package to support
PKO commitment and counterterrorism efforts within the region and in the world. However, the
assistance offer should not compromise our national interests: sovereignty, peace and security, as
well as national unity and dignity, values and freedoms, and Rwanda relationship with the United
States of America and European Union countries. Secondly, China s assistance should adhere to
Rwanda s Aid Policy principles stated in Rwanda Aid Policy 2006 document, which align with
national priorities, enhance country ownership, and allow for mutual accountability. Rwanda s
objective is to get assistance to support PKO and counter terrorism efforts. However, the assistance
should not recede Rwanda s Aid Policy

Character Analysis Of Adora s Relationship With Joya
Adora s troubled relationship with Joya caused her to develop a serious pathology, called
Munchausen by proxy syndrome, which leads her to an obsessive search for external approval.
Because of her condition, she is unable to experience remorse for her actions or empathy towards
her daughters sufferings provoked by her detached behaviour and destructive tendencies. This
disease pushes Adora to seek attentions through the systematic sickening of her offspring, which
allows her to show the world what a caring and loving mothershe is. She uses nurturance, an
intrinsically female capacity, to perform the maternal role which can lead her to obtain
recognition. In this way, Adora turns maternal watchfulness in an obsession, displaying the hurtful
force of extreme dedication and nurturance. Adora s psychological disorder devastates her
daughter s and her own life, and serves as evidence of the destructiveness of disturbed mother
daughter relationship. The most noticeable proof of the seriousness of her condition is Marian s
death, which shows Adora s complete and insane dedication to her own purpose. This exemplifies
how mental illness overpowers appropriate maternal behaviour. While she acts as an all powerful
mother in the private sphere of the house, her own reign, Adora tends to hide her oppressive force
in public. The caring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Tretis Of The Twa Mariit Wemen, And The Testament Of...
William Dunbar along with Robert Henryson are two well known, popular medieval poets who
both are said to be influenced by Geoffrey Chaucer , a Middle Ages poet who wrote much of the
great poetry we have today as well as influencing further poets. William Dunbar, born in Scotland
around 1460 attended St Andrews University between 1477 and 1479 and gained a degree. He
based many of his poems around religion and courtly love (two common themes of medieval
poetry) and wrote many popular poems such as The Dance Of The Seven Deadly Sins and The
Tretis of the Twa Mariit Wemen and the Wedo. Like Dunbar, Henryson was also a Scottish poet,
although born earlier in 1425 and can be said to be heavily influenced by Chaucer also, composing

Secular marriages were not blessed by the church and were more popular amongst the poorer
people as there was no expensive ceremony with rings. This type of marriage made it easier for
divorce and to remarry. In the poem, Dunbar uses a male narrator who is a voyeur eavesdropping
into a conversation amongst three, intoxicated woman who are in a garden on Midsummer night s
eve; two of them married and one a widow. In this conversation they discuss their husbands in an
unpleasant way and discuss their sexual desires which at this time was unheard of to males as
they classified woman as belongings and inferior. This poem is an attempt by Dunbar to get inside
the head of a woman which was a common thought amongst men as some were worried woman
were untrustworthy. The setting of this poem plays an important, although discreet role as
Midsummer Eve is associated with fertility rites back in pre Christian times and the garden they
are in would have been filled with sweet scents from the flowers blooming at that time of year, so
the setting is almost a metaphor for the woman and their duty to provide children and fertility.
The poem begins with the voyeur telling his audience about the three women and how he is hiding
and listening in to their personal conversation. To a modern audience this seems odd and disturbing

Overview of the Republic of Ireland and its Business Culture
Executive Summary The Republic of Ireland consists of twenty six counties and is located on the
island of Ireland, along with Northern Ireland. Ireland is a parliamentary democracy, made up of
three branches of government: the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch.
The executive branch consists of the President, who is mostly there for ceremonial purposes, the
Prime Minister, who is the head of the government, and the Deputy Prime Minister. The legislative
branch consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate and the Judicial Branch consists of
the Chief Justice and seven other judges. This paper goes over a brief look into the Republic of

Since the majority of the Irish are Roman Catholic, Catholicism is strongly intertwined into the
everyday life of an Irish person. It influences laws, education and architecture. One example of this
is divorce, which only recently became legal in 1997. Another example is abortion, which is still
illegal today, according to the Irish Constitution (Gall Hobby, 2009, p. 235). A July 2014 estimate
of Ireland s population, puts the population at 4,832,765. Out of the 240 recognized countries,
Ireland s population ranks at number 123 ( Ireland , 2014, Population). About eighty five percent
of the population identify themselves as Irish, two percent as Asian, one percent as Black, less
than one percent as mixed and two percent as unspecified ( Ireland , 2014, Ethic Groups).
According to Wilson, Ireland is relatively peaceful when it comes to ethnic relations since most of
nation is Irish and identify with the same culture. It is typically when the Irish leave their nation,
that they are subjected to prejudice and discrimination (Wilson, 2001, p. 1095). There are two
official languages recognized in Ireland, Irish (Gaelic) and English. About thirty percent of the
population speak Gaelic well enough to use it in daily conversations and only

Sexual Abuse And Child Abuse
Sexual abuse to a child can be a confusing and devastating experience for the family. Families
who are affected by child sexual abuse can have a difficult time talking about the abuse. Studies
have shown that about one out of every four girls and one out of every five boys are sexually
abused by the time they are 18 years old.
Sexual abuse to children does not discriminate based on socioeconomic status, ethnicity, culture,
religion or education. Treating a victim of child sexual abuse is a difficult process because of the
lack of trust the child will have for authoritarian figures. Often times when child sexual abuse
occurs the family members have a hard time acknowledging or even believing the abuse occurred,
which can lead to the family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Child abuse is reported about 80,000 times per year, but the most disturbing fact is how many
reports of child abuse go unreported due to the child being afraid to talk about the abuse, and not
wanting to get their offender in trouble.
Children between the ages of three to five years old are considered to be the most vulnerable to
be a victim of sexual abuse. Children need to have supervision at all times, especially during
times like changing clothes and bathing. If unsupervised, this can open the door for sexual abuse
by the relatives, babysitters, etc. The second risk factor is the socioeconomic status; the offender
will notice the child isn t getting any attention from the family and will manipulate the situation
with the child. The perpetrator will offer to buy the child things that the family can t, listen to
the child s problems and gain their trust. The level of education plays a role, if the child is raised
by a single parent and/or if the parents have marital problems. Once trust is established this is
when the perpetrator will sexually abuse a child. Lastly, the final part is how well the child knows
the perpetrator. The abuse of the child usually has occurred for a long time due to the close
relationship between the child and perpetrator. The perpetrator will groom the child and his/her
family by doing things for them, which the abuser has been targeting the child for

Structure and Narrative Technique in Wurthering Heights ...
Thomas Hardy employs an `omniscient narrator in his rural novel `Return of the Native , as he
attempts to mimic classical tragedy by uniting the essential elements of time, place and action. The
fact that the novel was originally intended to be of a five book structure, with monthly instalments,
ending with a final, devastating climax, coupled with the numerous classical references to Hades.
Hercules and Prometheus , shows even further Hardy s desire to create an immensely tragic novel,
void of a desire to please societies middle class novel reading public. Although it was to be this
novel which eventually underwent serious revision, `Wuthering Heightswould have ultimately
appeared as more baffling to Victorian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One insistent feature of his language in the initial chapters, is the frequent use of guesswork; I
suppose , perhaps and I conjectured. The effect of this style is to focus our attention on the
narration itself, as Lockwood struggles to translate his impressions for us. Bront #235;s use of
repeated guesswork and hesitancy allows us to remember that the novel is being relayed to us by a
struggling, foreign observer. Due to this uncertainty, only a small portion of the story filters through
to the reader, and we may expect that the effect of the narrative is rather economical. `Nicolas Marsh
however argues differently in his essay `Analysing Wuthering Heights , as he claims that this lack
of information paradoxically has the opposite effect, and that it creates an unlimited, obscured
environment for the story itself to be encompassed within.
Nelly s language, on the other hand, can be vividly descriptive, as when she describes Cathy on
the moors musing over a bit of moss, or a tuft of branched grass, or a fungus spreading its bright
orange among the heaps of brown foliage. Sometimes her language is not unlike Lockwood s, as
she claims Heathcliff s naturally reserved disposition was exaggerated into an almost idiotic excess
of unsociable moroseness. However, once again the narrator s character interferes

Positive And Negative Effects Of Religion And Corruption
According to Seldadyo and Haan there are both positive and negative effects of religion on
corruption. Such results can be explained by diversity of religions and their moralities. Since this
issue requires deeper estimations, it is difficult to make conclusion for that determinant. However
Pleskov, Subarna and Zadeh in their article Religion as a Determinant of Corruption Evidence from
OPEC and OECD countries examines the role of religion in the corruption, and find out that this
factor can not be ignored. Returning to the question how religion affects corruption it would be
better to introduce some evidence. Also it is interesting to note that societies who cultivate secular
rational attitudes toward authority are perceived to be less corrupt, unlike those where traditional
values dominate. Relation between gender and corruption, were investigated by many researchers,

People have to be informed about consequences of future corruption action. Nowadays, each
country has different types of punishment. Concerning to punishment by heavier fines will have
strong deterrence effects and is also an effective way to punish those guilty of corruption.
Punishment by imprisonment and capital execution will have much stronger deterrence effects
because the opportunity costs for corrupters will be relatively higher if they are put in jail or even
executed. Imprisonment and execution will, on the other hand, increase social costs, which include
not only the direct costs of jail administration and other related expenses, but also the foregone
productive ability when they are imprisoned or executed. In this sense, removing corrupt officials

efficient method for deterrence and punishment of

True Love In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare Most if not all of the information we as the people have today is an extension of past
inventions, creations, and ideas. Art dates as far back to the stone ages and has continued to be a
huge factor throughout. Literature is one of the foundations of art and the person who has had a
huge influence on it even until today is the famous William Shakespeare. Shakespeare was known
as the greatest dramatist and finest poet who has written in the English language. Dating back to
1592 where records show Shakespeare featured on the London stage was around the same time
he started his writing career. After many successes Shakespeare and his group were wealthy
enough to buy there own theater called the Globe , which was where most of his plays took
place. Romeo and Juliet was one of Shakespeare s best plays and poems and the morel of that
piece is used in today s songs, movies, plays, poems and any piece of entertainment pertaining to
love. It is not just famous because Shakespeare wrote it but because of the major themes underlying
messages and the feeling you get when you engage yourself into it.
Romeo and Juliet is considered to be a love story and is almost perfect in showing the world what
true love is and the drastic measures he goes though to be with the one his heart longs for.

Uglies Westerfeld Character Analysis
Tally, the main character in the book Uglies , shows many changes in character or thought
throughout the book. Uglies was written by Scott Westerfeld, a New York Times Bestselling
Author. In Uglies, Westerfeld shows the reader how Tally s character changes when Peris visits
her in Uglyville, when Tally finds out David grew up in the Smoke, and when Tally visits David s
parents house.
The first time a change of character in Tally is noticed is when she finds out who she trusts, and
commits to, when Peris visits her in Uglyille. This is while Tally is trying to decide whether she
wants to tell the Specials where Shay is, and turn pretty, or keep Shay s location a secret, and
stay ugly for life. Therefore, the statement Tally had it now, an excuse to break her vow. She d
made that promise to Peris, just as real, before she d ever met Shay. She had known him for
years, and Shay for only a few months shows that Tally has decided she would rather keep her
promise to Peris other than Shay (Westerfeld ) . After Peris s visit, Tally decides that she will

Double Bass Research Paper
The double bass is the largest and deepest sounding of the stringed instruments in the viol family,
although scholars sometimes argue about its true lineage. This instrument is prevalent in many
genres like jazz, blue grass, and rock and roll. There is also a science behind its strings and the
melodious sound that they make. The history of the double bass goes back as early as 1493 when
people started noting that there were viols that were as big as humans. The first illustration of the
instrument is found in 1516. Historians thought that it would be more important to find the earliest
form of tuning using either forths or third fourth tuning. The term third fourth tuning is named by
Praetorius that was used for a six string instrument... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many six stringed instruments were lighter that later became the modern double bass. There
were very few five stringed basses in the 17th century. Leopold Mozart had noted that there were
some very intricate pieces for concertos, trios and solos that were made specifically for these less
popular pieces. These models consisted of notes like F1 A1 D F# B. In the early 1609, Adriano
Banchieri made an early bass that had six strings D1 G1 C E A d, but in the next century, it was
overpowered by a three stringed bass that contained either A1 D2 G2 or G1 D2 G2 and also had
no frets. This was on of the first symphony bass models that lasted up until the 1920s. At that
time E1 was added and made it easier to play lower notes instead of transposing them up an
octave. The double bass with its four strings has a range of pitches. It is tuned in fourths so its
basic strings are E1 A1 D2 G2. Its pitches start as low as 41.2 Hz and go as high as 98 Hz. It
gains these pitches by putting tension on the strings. The large strings have a higher mass and
stiffness that also help achieve this set of

This poem is called The Silent Tent. The most noted and revered line in this poem is actually the
first, She is as in a field a silken tent . This signifies the fact that Frost chose to compare Kay (the
woman he fell for) to a silken tent. Frost may have chosen for the tent to be silk to express the
soft beauty of Kay; after all, silk is normally described as beautiful, soft, and smooth.
As the poem The Silken Tent goes on, the metaphors become complex and more and more are
tangled within one another. This can symbolize how, as time went on, Frost s love for Kay, as
well as their relationship, became more and more complicated. Frost uses ropes as a way to
express that Kay is tied down by her duties, but he then goes on to say that all of the cords are
loosely bound . In the last line of the poem, Frost explains that marriage is like a form of
bondage. When married, a person is bound religiously, socially, and legally. However, Frost states
that it is only a slight amount of bondage, showing that Kay s marriage wasn t constricting or
strict. Lastly, by using light weather (such as sunny summer breeze and summer air ) in this
particular poem, Frost evokes a feeling of happiness, signifying that Kay was a happy woman.
Sharing this poem with the world, in its most romantic and personal form, took courage, causing
even more people to flock towards Frost and his writing. All of

Social Pressure From Family And Time Spent On Aerobic...
Also, Figure 2 displays the link between perceived social pressure from family and time spent
participating in aerobic exercise per week. The relationship between these two variables was
very weak and insignificant, r(206)= .04, p=.558, as summarized in Table 1. The threshold
significant p value for data is p .05. From our data, we can conclude that the weak correlation
between social pressure from family and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise is likely
due to chance and is therefore insignificant. Lastly, Figure 3 shows the connection between social
pressure from important figures in the participant s life and the amount of time spent on aerobic
exercise. The link between our independent and dependent variable here was positive and weak,
r(206)= .17, p=.013, as summarized in Table 1. Although the relationship between social
pressure from important figures in the participant s life and time spent on aerobic exercise is
weak, this finding is significant. Since our calculated p value from our Pearson s correlation test
was very small, our positive correlational finding was not likely due to chance. Therefore we can
loosely state that as social pressure from important figures in the participant s life increases,
amount of time spent on aerobic exercise also increases. Discussion Due to how often young
people attend social events and functions, we predicted that social pressure would be a key
indicator for our participants exercise habits. We

Perfect Day For Bananafish
The most powerful pieces of literature transcend their time period and ignite feelings in readers
generations later. Unfortunately, sometimes an audience misinterprets a text when taken out of
its historical context. A Perfect Day for Bananafish, a short story in J.D. Salinger s collection,
Nine Stories, is a story that falls into the trap of being glossed over, taken out of context, and
misinterpreted by readers. Without in depth analysis, the relationship fostered between the two
main characters seems alarming and inappropriate for today s standards. Seymour Glass, a
World War II veteran currently assimilating to American life post war, befriends a young girl,
named Sybil, around the age of a toddler. Their endeavours and shared accounts are concerning
for many readers, whose knowledge of today s moral standards raise a red flag in the readers
minds. For example, Salinger writes, the young man suddenly picked up one of Sybil s wet feet,
which were drooping over the end of the float, and kissed the arch (Salinger 24). The audience
cannot help to immediately assume a pedophile situation or something related due to the prevalence
of sexual crime in today s society. But, after further analysis of Seymour s motives and the

A1. Reconnaissance
The Initial phase in cyberattack is reconnaissance. In reconnaissance phase, attackers gather
information about target s vulnerabilities which can be exploited further.
Reconnaissance are of two types:
1.Active Reconnaissance
Active reconnaissance is the information collection process in which attacker gains access to the
target system and performs port scans or check ways to go around the firewalls and routers. Since
in an active reconnaissance attacker must enter or probe the target s network, there is a possibility
that target might get information about attacker like attacker s IP address. (Mike Chapple, 2014)
2.Passive Reconnaissance
Passive reconnaissance is the process of information collection in which attacker is in passive mode
and target will not know about attacker. It generally involves research about target by using open
source information gathering tools like Google. (Czumak,2014)
In Western power grid attack, APT was well organized. They used both active and passive
reconnaissance methods to gather information. We have found the traces of attackers IP in the

Essay On Irish Dancing On Gait And Flexibility
Research Proposal.
Title:
An examination into the effects that Irish dancing has on gait and ankle flexibility.
Introduction
The topic that will be discussed in this proposal is the effects of dancing on gait and ankle
flexibility in dancers. The population being researched is dancers and will make comparisons
between dancers and non dancers. The purpose of this research is for examining the effects dancing
has on ankle flexibility and gait patterns in dancers and determining whether or not there is a
difference between the gait patterns of dancers in comparison to non dancers. Dancing requires
extreme ankle postures and unique balance. Intensive and long term practice of extreme ankle
postures can cause changes in gait patterns in dancers during normal walking (Lung, Chern, Hsieh,
Yang, 2008).
Literature Review:
The aim of the research carried out by Lung, Chern, Hsieh, and Yang (2008), was to investigate the
differences in gait patterns between dancers and non dancers. This study hypothesized that gait
patterns in dancers will be significantly different to non dancers. Thirty three subjects were
recruited for the purposes of the study. Thirteen of the subjects were dancers and twenty of the ...

INTRODUCTION Aggregate is one of the basic constituents of concrete. Its quality is of
considerable importance because about three quarter of the volume of concrete is occupied by

the grading of aggregate. The grading of aggregate defines the proportions of particles of different

Darwinism and Evolution
12 6 96
Evolution, the science of how populations of living organisms change over time in response to their
environment, is the central unifying theme in biology today. Evolution was first explored in its
semi modern form in Charles Darwin s
1859 book, Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection. In this book, Darwin laid out a strong
argument for evolution. He postulated that all species have a common ancestor from which they are
descended. As populations of species moved into new habitats and new parts of the world, they
faced different environmental conditions. Over time, these populations accumulated modifications,
or adaptations, that allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first step in understand evolution in present terms is to mention genetic engineering (including
genetic drift). The first step to understanding genetic engineering, and embracing its possibilities for
society, is to obtain a rough knowledge base of its history and method. The basis for altering the
evolutionary process is dependent on the understanding of how individuals pass on characteristics
to their offspring. Genetics achieved its first foothold on the secrets of nature s evolutionary process
when an Austrian monk named Gregor
Mendel developed the first laws of heredity. Using these laws, scientists studied the
characteristics of organisms for most of the next one hundred years following Mendel s
discovery. These early studies concluded that each organism has two sets of character
determinants, or genes (Stableford 16). For instance, in regards to eye color, a child could
receive one set of genes from his father that were encoded one blue, and the other brown. The
same child could al so receive two brown genes from his mother. The conclusion for this
inheritance would be the child has a three in four chance of having brown eyes, and a one in three
chance of having blue eyes (Stableford 16). Genes are transmitted through chromosomes which
reside in the nucleus of every living organism s cells. Each chromosome is made up of fine strands
of deoxyribonucleic acids, or DNA. The information carried

Animal Testing Over 100 Years Essay
If you lived in 1900, you could only expect to live to 47.3 years old (berkeley.edu). However,
today you can expect to live to see your 78th birthday, that s a difference of 31.5 years (cdc.gov).
Why such an age difference in just over 100 years? There are several factors that contribute to a
longer life expectancy today. They include, healthier lifestyles, better hygiene, and notice of public
health. But, the greatest contribution comes from medical advancements, such as vaccinations,
surgical procedures, and medications that have been discovered through the process of animal
testing. Animals have contributed greatly to the prolonged life spans of humans.

Not only do humans benefit from animal research, but animals do too. Animals develop many of
the same diseases that people do and there are many procedures performed on people that are also
performed on animals to improve their quality of life. Some treatments found through animal
testing that benefit animals are treatments for diabetes, cancer, arthritis, vaccinations, antibiotics,

There are currently in vitro models such as cell cultures and computer modeling that are in use
that can replace some animal models. It is hopeful that one day animals will not need to be used in

As you can see with these examples, it is absolutely necessary to use animals in research; for
diseases that currently exist and for the ones yet to be discovered. There is no doubt that using
animals to test products and to develop lifesaving medications and surgical procedures have

Benefits Of Legalizing And Regulating Uber
By legalising and regulating Uber there are several possible potential costs and benefits that society
would face.
Legalising and regulating Uber would negatively affect taxi companies since they are in
competition with Uber (Cramer Krueger, 2016). It will cause a decrease in taxi companies revenue
due to sharing the market with Uber (Rahel, 2016).
Due to more cars on the road, traffic can be negatively affected and might result in congestion. It
also leads to higher CO2 emission (Rogers, 2015).
Government regulations and restrictions such as licenses are used to protect the taxi industry from
competition (Petropoulos, 2016). Uber does not require its drivers to hold particular licenses,
which has caused the actual value of taxi licenses to be decreased (Petropoulos, 2016).
Before Uber entered the market, taxi companies benefited from regulations in place as they
offered protection from competition (Petropoulos, 2016 and Rahel, 2016). These regulations have
also caused a limitation in revenue earned by taxi companies since uber formed. Current
regulations mean taxi drivers must conduct pick up and drop offs in areas defined under the
regulations whilst Uber has no limitations regarding number of drivers or areas where drivers are
to operate in. (Rahel, 2016).
Due to the increase in competition taxi drivers income has been negatively affected and there has
been a decrease in their salary (Rahel, 2016). This is forcing taxi drivers to seek alternate
employment to

today. Water has been the predominant factor in shaping Michigan, starting with glaciers over ten
million years ago, to rivers, rain and lakes that still shape it today. Water... Show more content on

These formations caused the water level in many lakes to drop, and flow into rivers. With the
weight of the glacier removed from the land, isotonic equilibrium occurred. The region began to
rise, at a rate of about thirty centimeters per century (Leelanau, 2004). Water levels in the upper
basin began to rise, forming lakes that filled the Michigan, Huron and Superior basins. Today,
this isotonic rebound is still occurring, but at a rate of 53 centimeters per century. The rebound
occurs at different rates across the area that was covered by the glacier. The difference in rates
emerges from the difference in weight of the glacier. Areas that are rising the fastest today are
those that had a thicker or heavier glacial ice, or those areas that had ice covering those most
recently. Because of the difference in rates, the lower basin rose more slowly that the northern
outlets (Leelanau, 2004). As the water changed directions to flow through the St. Clair River, the
shape of the Great Lakes reached a point close to what they are at today. The shorelines and water
level has changed, but the basic flow of water has stayed the same for the past 2,000 or so

Analysis Of Ford s Assembly Line
Ford s Assembly Line The acronym PERSIA denotes the categories Political, Economic, Religion,
Social, Intellectual and Aesthetic into an easy way of remembering one of many systematic
models. These six categories are used to organize and explain technology s effect and changes over
a long period of time. By categorizing a specific topic or idea, one may easily be able to understand
the importance that topic, idea and technology has impacted a person, culture, country, and even
history. Thus, providing a new outlook and perspective on history and the factors that contributed to
the change in history. Firstly, the PERSIA model breaks into the category, political. Political

Technology can impact different denominations of religious affiliations. For example Muslim,
Catholic, Christians, Judaism, and etc., can use and see technology differently. On Shabbat,
which is the last day of the week, known as the day of rest, followers of Judaism must refrain
from using electronics and or motor vehicles. The category social, refers to an individual within
society. Specifically, how technology effects changes in social relationships and people s lives.
Technology can make life easier and at the same time can make life more difficult. When an
invention is released, the inventors intent and purpose to increase production and reduce time or
increase quality of life, may produce the opposite result. For example, DDT, which was used as a
pesticide, was sprayed during the mid 1900 s to rid of insects, solved the problem temporarily, but
eventually caused problems to the environment and people later down the road. As a result, the
technology wasn t completely successful. Following social, intellectual describes education,
technological advancement, and subjects learned in education. Some of these include, math,
science, engineering and physics. The category intellectual defines what is important to know and
what is useless. Lastly, the PERSIA model ends with aesthetic. This is defined as what is
appealing to the eye of a person. Creatively expressing an idea, or coming up with a new solution

Taking Back The Vote
For a nation to truly develop everybody should participate in voting. If everyone will vote then
the elected representative will be someone who will represent the believes and values of
everyone or at least the majority. In that way, when the representative will do something for the
nation, everyone will be able to be benefited from it. However, it is a harsh reality of our society
that young people vote at lower rates than other age groups. There are a lot of reasons for that, for
example, I think most young people are not interested enough in what the politicians are claiming
to in their campaign. Most politician talks about health care, better economy, and external
relations. These topics do not seem interesting to young people because in most cases they have
not been in a situations where they needed any of those, for example, in most cases senior people
need health care, middle age group need to worry about the economy because they need to feed
their kids, and authorities need to worry about external affairs. Hence, young people end up not
votingbecause their issues are not being discussed in the electioncampaign. According to Jane
Eisner s book Taking Back the Vote, it is two processes. In one side, young people do not vote
because their issues are not discussed in the election campaigns, and on another side, the politicians

Capitalism Vs Capitalism
2.2 Capitalism is chaotic
Marx also criticizes capitalism because of its chaotic nature. In this regard, the author states that
capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx
argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run
which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a
planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and
freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017). Even in periods when capitalist economies
seem to function relatively smoothly, without incidences such as recession or inflation, the Marxian
theory depicts capitalism as a destructive economic system (Wolff Resnick, 2012).
2.3 Capitalism breeds inequality
Karl Marx, a renowned philosopher and economist is against capitalism because he believed that
created conditions that promoted inequality (Alfarsi, 2016). Capitalism creates two classes of
people in society. In this regard, Marx states that capitalism results in a class of people known as
proletarians who are majorly composed of the working class as well as the bourgeois which
comprises of the capitalists who are the owners of the factors of production. As a result of the
competing interests, capitalism creates a struggle between these two classes of people hence the
reason as to why it is undesirable.

(Kulwiec 1985, Siddhartha 2017) Unit materials are discrete items that can be distinguished as

materials are often stored in bins silos, or hoppers. (Kulwiec 1985) For bulk materials the MHP
must also take into account of factors such as but not limited to: Lump size, Flowability,
Abrasiveness, and Bulk density. (Siddhartha 2017) The MSDS or SDS provides the relevant
information for the correct storage procedures of such materials. (SWA 2016) The National
Transport Commission sets the requirement for the transportation materials. The Australian Code

safe transport of materials in the transport and logistics industry. (NTC 2017a) The safe handling
of materials also extends to the aviation and maritime transportation industries. (NTC 2017b) The
MSDS and SDS also provide information to whether the transportation of a material is subject to
strict guidelines. Copper Concentrate, for example, is not classified as a dangerous good and is
therefore its transportation is not subject to strict guidelines. Recall that copper concentrate does
pose a potential risk and as such is still subject to a MHP. (RMT 2011, 2015) The mining industry

Jack London Essay
Jack London, an American author known for his thrilling adventure stories, showed the world
that even an exciting story that takes place in exotic settings can include all the intricacies of
great literature. This is seen in many of his stories with the implementation of symbolism, many
times a recurring theme in his work. Also, London used many ideas of the day such as
Darwinism and Spencerism in his writings in order to better portray his views. However, perhaps
one of the most telling signs that London wrote good literature was through London s mastery of a
rising literary movement known as naturalism. As seen in multitude of London s works,
symbolism plays a major role in his writings. One of London s greatest works of... Show more

In To Build a Fire, a mysterious man, referred to as the man (Rhodes 1) in many literary
critiques, must survive a hump over the frozen tundra of the Klondike, and with him he takes his
husky. The two characters act as foils to each other, each experiencing the same situations as the
other, but it is their responses to the situations that show the difference between the two. For
example, both the husky and the man break through the ice and got their paws/feet wet:
Suddenly it (the husky) broke throughВ… the water that clung to it turned to ice (London 500)
and then later В…the man broke through (the ice) (London 501 502). It is the husky, however,
that proved more adept to coping with the freezing climate of the North, especially after having
gotten wet in a freezing creek. Because of this innate ability of the husky, he survived the ordeal
whereas the man died of hypothermia after his fire, which was meant to dry out his foot, was
snuffed out by the Northern snow. It was as though he had heard his own sentence of death. For a
moment he sat there and stared at the spot where the fire had been (London 503). It is this symbol
of survival that is perhaps the most characteristic and recurring theme in London s writings, known
as Spencerism. Many ideas of the late 19th century and early 20th century are apparent in London
s writing, chief among them being his belief in Spencerism. This was an idea created by

John s Quest For Identity In The Awakening
The plot takes place within the time span of twenty four hours, beginning with the protagonist,
John s awakening on his fourteenth birthday to his religious conversion that evening. The story
woven around a sensitive young boy, whose quest is for identity, begins on the morning of his
fourteenth birthday, when he realizes that he should do something different from what his father
expects him to do because he has been told that he should become a preacher when he grew up,
following his father s footstep. This is obvious from the very first line of the novel: Everyone had

136). Gabriel makes it his mission to use his elevated status to preach redemption to the
wayward. He distresses that these sinners had all turned aside, and gone out in to the wilderness,
to fall down before idols of gold and silver, and wood and stone, false gods that could not heal
them (Baldwin, 136). Ironically, Gabriel responds to this by establishing himself as the
unassailable representation of righteousness, working in many ways to make a false god of
himself. This desire to serve as a savior influences Gabriel s preaching career and continues to
influence his personal life, even after the death of first wife Deborah. Gabriel s clearest
memories of Elizabeth recall how one night after he had preached, the young unwed mother had
walked this long aisle to the altar, to repent before God her sin (Baldwin, 149). After pursuing the
much younger woman, he proposes marriage, confessing to her that he believes they would be

women, his proposal is thoroughly framed within the language of redemption. He suggests to

The Consequences Of Betrayal In The Adventures Of Ulysses
Betrayal Betrayal is the action of deception against one s country, group, or a person. This action
is both noted in novels and in the real world. The novel The Adventures of Ulysses by Bernard
Evslin describes a scene in which two men betray Ulysses by opening a bag of winds. In the real
world, a mannamed Edward Snowden betrays his country by revealing classified information he
was entrusted with. The two situations of betrayal are justified and not justified throughout the
texts they are mentioned in. In the novel, The Adventures of Ulysses, Ulysses was guarding a bag

Thus, the two men should have thought a bit more before opening the sack and delaying their

for, I don t accept that the men were justified for betraying Ulysses. The two men knew Ulysses
was an equitable man and he had proven many times that he was trustworthy. Two articles from
NewsEla give information about Edward Snowden and how he revealed how the American
democracy is disappearing like our privacy. He exposed the NSA by informing the population that
they were collecting Americans phone records. Nevertheless, even though he is going to face the
consequences of his actions, he had a justified reason for doing what he did. First of all, it was
revealed that the information collected by the NSA was used against citizens who were
participating in low key protests. Secondly, the government ignored terrorist information and
focused on the information of the innocent. In an article by Mark Weisbrot for NewsEla it states,
However there is a mountain of evidence that this massive data gathering is, in fact, being used

Should Public Figures Be Accountable for Their Private...

milestones of technology has led us into the new Technological Age of the 21st century, whereby
innovations such as the Internet allows information to be spread in seconds. Today, public
п¬Ѓgures such as celebrities and politicians play an increasing role in our society, shaping our

Thus, as public п¬Ѓgures play a role as representatives of the society, they should be accountable
for their actions, even those undertaken in private, as it is only fair to the public, whom they
represent. Even though it is often argued that there is no need for public п¬Ѓgures to account for
their private activities as long as they perform in their jobs, what they do in private inevitably
matters as it would not only create a lasting impact on the society, but also when it breaks the law.
Performance at work does not exempt anyone from obeying the laws of the land, and public
п¬Ѓgures still have to account for their actions without shrinking from the responsibility. This is
especially true with the high corruption cases involving national leaders such as former Thai Prime

positions as high profile public figures, their actions in private still calls for state punishment,
forcing them to account for such undesirable actions. To ensure that the public upkeeps the

  • 2. Essay on A Girl Named Paige I walk through the doors to the fourth building, aiming towards the bathroom but instead, continue to the hallway next to the library and sit across and diagonal from this girl who always makes me curious with the way she looks, the way she acts. Everyday I see her, sitting alone. It s only seven thirteen and I know her friends will join her soon; I stay sitting across from her. Everyday, my curiosity grows. I see her all day and I know next to nothing about her. She sits alone most of the time, an almost forlorn lookplastered to her face. Alone now, I know she sees me. Her eyes dart up at me as I sit then return to their staring at a random splat on the floor, wall, anywhere. Part of me wants to think she s just socially awkward and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They converse about fictional characters and how marvelous they are. Tired of this conversation, I decide to venture elsewhere, although I intend to keep an eye on Paige in first hour. During first hour, Paige is just as vivacious, even more so than earlier. I notice then how small she is. Slim, but not puny, and somewhat tall is her body stature. She s just small enough to be swallowed by any crowd. The dark clothes make her shrink into herself. The incessant hoodies she wears contribute to absorbing her. I suppose it reflects her personality, always drawn in, like a tortoise in a shell. I wonder how her friend, Courtney, is friends with her. They seem polar opposites. Courtney looks outgoing, confident. As I look at Paige, I can tell she isn t. I can see her low self esteem in the way she slouches and the dullness in her eyes when she s contemplating. On one hand, I feel sympathetic for her. It s as if life for her is so gruesome. On the other hand, however, her demeanor is disgusting. Low self esteem is the least attractive quality in others. She seems comfortable, so why is it she always seems so sorrowfully somber? I shake my head and stand as the bell rings, heading to second hour. On our way to second hour, I walk behind Paige. Once she steps outside the classroom her face instantly takes on that disheartening expression. I wonder silently, is her life really that poisonous? Does she return home and act this way? I ... • 3. Classical Hollywood Narrative Classical Hollywood narrative has been around since 1917, it has been the most common way people see cinema today. The reason this movie styles has remained as the most common is because it achieves the job by making the viewers sink deep into the film. Classical hollywood narrative consists of a clear plot, including beginning, middle, and end. In the beginning the film shows the watcher the surrounding including the lifestyle and everything else going on during the films time period. This helps the viewer to become aware and in essence enter 6he film and make the film more realistic than it is. Once the environment has been set up by the film, the film moves on to the second stage which is the problem. The second stage is where the main character... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In classical hollywood narratives the camera positions frontal shots in order for the audiences to feel connected and sucked into the film. However, Tarantino has done the opposite by showing multiple scenes with no frontal shots. The first time the film presents this kind of shot is when Vincent is having a full on conversation with Jules (0:13:47), this is absolutely something that will never happen in a classical hollywood narrative. The purpose of a classical hollywood narrative is to connect the audiences to each of the characters, and to each scene, however tarantino neglects to achieve this. This film constantly makes its audience become aware that the film is only a film, it does not achieve to make its viewers connect and get dragged into to film. Another time the film does this kind of behavior is when the film first introduces Marcellus, once again the film describes its audience from being fully engage (0:21:15). Marcellus Wallace is one of the most important and main characters however the audience is deprived of full knowledge of this character. The film constantly has these kind of rear shots, definitely not a characteristic of classical hollywood narratives. These kind of shots however do create a suspense for each of the characters, it builds up curiosity in the audiences to see what they look like. For example the scene where Vincent finally meets Mia (0:32:20), it takes 2 minutes for the film to finally reveal the face of the mysterious main character. Despite the fact that Tarantino defied many traits from classical Hollywood narrative, he was still able to connect the audience with the film. In the same scene where Vincent first encounters Mia, the film introduces Mia in a mysterious way, the audience meets mia at the same moment as Vincent. There are many other characteristics that Tarantino uses in Pulp Fiction that connect the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Jim Crow laws were in favor of white people more than black, in state and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. This in turn caused more harm than good because black peoplehad so many restrictions on what the can do while living in the US. The Jim Crow lawswere based on segregation of public schools, public places, and public transportation, and the segregation of restrooms, restaurants, and drinking fountains for whites and blacks. The U.S. military was also segregated. The Jim Crow laws caused white to feel superior to black while black thought they were inferior. African Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These laws had a lot of impact on people sociologically because the government would not believe them no matter what the case was. They saw all black people as inferior during this time and would stay the same as time went on. Segregation between white and black people during the 1890 s was a sad time for most black people because they could not eat at the same restaurants, use the same railroads or bus stations or even restrooms. Black people were, restricted to only using what was available to them and nothing else. As time went on the Democratic Party played a part in the evolution of The Jim Crow laws. During the 1940 s black people was no threat to white Virginians mainly because they were disfranchised by the new state constitution in 1902. By having this new constitution in place horrible acts such as lynchings became a means of keeping blacks in their place. The Democratic Party during this time caused more harm than good instead of helping black people succeed they instead try to keep them tied down. But when the twenties and eventually the thirties came around most white southerners did not want to adapt to the changes that were going on at the time. Under the Jim Crow laws most white people thought at the time that they would eventually get attacked from within or even without. • 8. Victimless Crimes Analysis Crimes are not an opinion, but in fact, are a matter of law. Although changes in society s norms and value influence the development of new laws, people continue to commit crimes. People commit crimes for many reasons, such as crimes of love and passion, jealousy, and money. The degree of crimes varies sharply from murder and rape to white collar crimes like insider trading and embezzlement. Victimless Crimes According to Cochran, Mayer, Carr, and Cayer (2012), victimless crimes are willingly acts that violate society s moral principles. My employer s location, in the business district of Denver, had many occurrences of victimless crimes. Specifically, in 2014, surrounding parking lots experienced several early morning automobile break ins. Consequently, the Denver Police Department (DPD) provided safety sessions for the building tenants. Essentially, the DPD safety meeting suggested that a good number of break ins are the work of drug addicts who run out of money for their next fix and are seeking to steal personal property to cash in on their fix. Further, the morning break ins are common in the business district because addicts realize most cars are those of the working class. Although the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) crime data does not report larceny theft specifically, it does report a 1.0% increase in motor vehicle theft in 2014 from 2013 (Shugart, n.d.). Based on the CBI s data, it is difficult to delineate if the increase in the 2014 motor vehicle thefts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Demetrio Macias Characters In The Underdogs Leadership Roles of Demetrio Macias Alciberto Silva Jr. LAH 2020 Professor Emma Sordo November 4th, 2014 In The Underdogs written by Mariano Azuela, the protagonist, Demetrio Macias is symbolized as the fuel of the Mexican Revolution. Heroes like Macias gave hope to the oppressed people of Mexico by fighting for what they felt they truly deserved, but, ironically, later becomes what he was fighting against. He does show great leadership and determination to oppress Pancho Villa s army. Pancho Villa, the dictator of Mexico during this revolutionary time, also shows prolific leadership qualities and care for his people; much like Demetrio Macias. However, at times Villa can be a ferocious general who destroyed villiages and killed innocent victims, he shows his compassion who helped those in need and rescued orphans providing them with food, education, and a home. Pancho Villa was a leader who only asked for your loyalty and trust, but was cruel when people tried to oppose him. In Johnson s writing, she describes the role of Marian relief sculptures in fifteenth century Italy. The most interesting aspects of these sculptures was the role they played in worship and marital rituals. In this essay, I will discuss Johnson s writings about the necessity of naturalistic sculptures and Marian reliefs part in these rituals. As described by Johnson, Italian s increasingly strong urge to become more in tuned with God and JesusChrist became apparent through the sculpted reliefs that were created for public and private worship. This need resulted in a more naturalistic approach to statues that concerned the Madonna and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Faux Ma Soeur Analysis Virginity and sex are common themes in popular media. Whether a direct discussion of the social expectations of virginity are expressed in a movie, the norms and expectations will surface indirectly nonetheless. The French film ГЂ Ma Soeur challenges the media s lack of direct discussion of virginity and sexuality in youth, especially young girls. The story of ГЂ Ma Soeur follows two sisters on vacation, one who is attractive and thin and the other who appears overweight and plain looking. The attractive older sister begins a relationship with an older man, and both sisters express their perception of virginityduring the film. From Catherine Breillat s forthright discussion and presentation of society s double standards and taboos surrounding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Virginity as a process allows a certain freedom in relationships and self discovery. As an indirect application of queer theory, process virginity allows a challenge to normative expressions of virginity. Carpenter s queer interviewees describe their loss of virginity in terms of oral or anal sex, even when the most popular narrative is the loss of virginity through penile penetration of the vagina (805). The interviewees constructed their own virginity narratives independently of the heterosexual and normative prerequisites. On the other hand, virginity as a process and as a product of queer theory does avoid necessary discussions and deliberations on heterosexual virginity. As Kitzinger and Wilkinson explore in their article Virgins and Queers: Rehabilitating Heterosexuality? in Gender and Society, applying queer theory to sex is not always an appropriate and beneficial analysis. Of the two major responses to virginity as a process, Kitzinger and Wilkinson present the consequences of queer theory on sex. The inclusivity of queer virginity evades the discussion of heterosexuality and its pervasiveness in society ( Kitzinger et al 457). Virginity as a process is a popular personal explanation of sexual activity in the queer community, but, when applied broadly and to certain contexts, queer theory does not provide a viable narrative. Expanding virginity as a process includes heterosexual and heteroromantic individuals within the queer community. Heterosexuality becomes a challenge to the norm and a facet of queer theory as a method of inclusivity. Macbeth s evil and inner demons originate from a combination of the prophecy of the three witches, as well as his own lofty ambitions. However, it is the pressure from power hungry Lady Macbeth, and the murder of King Duncan that help transform Macbeth into the ruthless and immoral killer that he becomes. As the play continues he shows less and less remorse and begins committing more serious and sinister crimes, such as the killing of his best friend, and the innocent. After this the great changes in Macbeth as he makes his transition to the ruthless tyrant that he is at the end are more obvious. Shortly after the murder, Macbeth becomes a ruthless king, filled with great paranoia. Now he remembers the other part of the prophecy when the witches tell Banquo, thou shalt get kings, though thou not be none... (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 67 68). The new paranoid Macbeth decides that Banquo must be eliminated to preserve his own power and royal lineage. Our fears in Banquo stick deep...to make them Kings, the seeds of Banqou Kings! Rather then though so, come, fate into the list, and champion me to th utterance! (Act 3, Scene 1, Line 49 72) The difference between the ways he dealt with this incident and the way he dealt with Duncan is that this time his decision is quick, no longer second guessing his decision or showing any signs of guilt, even though now he is killing his best friend. Macbeth does not consult his plans with Lady Macbeth either; whose torment has taken her down the path of insanity, and subsequently suicide. Murder has now become his nature, his empathy engulfed by his evil ambitions. Oh full of scorpions in my mind dear wife! (Act 3, Scene 2, Line 36). In this way, Adora turns maternal watchfulness in an obsession, displaying the hurtful force of extreme dedication and nurturance. Adora s psychological disorder devastates her daughter s and her own life, and serves as evidence of the destructiveness of disturbed mother daughter relationship. The most noticeable proof of the seriousness of her condition is Marian s death, which shows Adora s complete and insane dedication to her own purpose. In the poem, Dunbar uses a male narrator who is a voyeur eavesdropping into a conversation amongst three, intoxicated woman who are in a garden on Midsummer night s eve; two of them married and one a widow. In this conversation they discuss their husbands in an unpleasant way and discuss their sexual desires which at this time was unheard of to males as they classified woman as belongings and inferior. This poem is an attempt by Dunbar to get inside the head of a woman which was a common thought amongst men as some were worried woman were untrustworthy. The setting of this poem plays an important, although discreet role as Midsummer Eve is associated with fertility rites back in pre Christian times and the garden they are in would have been filled with sweet scents from the flowers blooming at that time of year, so the setting is almost a metaphor for the woman and their duty to provide children and fertility. Sexual abuse to children does not discriminate based on socioeconomic status, ethnicity, culture, religion or education. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Child abuse is reported about 80,000 times per year, but the most disturbing fact is how many reports of child abuse go unreported due to the child being afraid to talk about the abuse, and not wanting to get their offender in trouble. Children between the ages of three to five years old are considered to be the most vulnerable to be a victim of sexual abuse. Children need to have supervision at all times, especially during times like changing clothes and bathing. If unsupervised, this can open the door for sexual abuse by the relatives, babysitters, etc. The second risk factor is the socioeconomic status; the offender will notice the child isn t getting any attention from the family and will manipulate the situation with the child. The perpetrator will offer to buy the child things that the family can t, listen to the child s problems and gain their trust. The level of education plays a role, if the child is raised by a single parent and/or if the parents have marital problems. Once trust is established this is when the perpetrator will sexually abuse a child. Lastly, the final part is how well the child knows the perpetrator. The effect of this style is to focus our attention on the narration itself, as Lockwood struggles to translate his impressions for us. Due to this uncertainty, only a small portion of the story filters through to the reader, and we may expect that the effect of the narrative is rather economical. `Nicolas Marsh however argues differently in his essay `Analysing Wuthering Heights , as he claims that this lack of information paradoxically has the opposite effect, and that it creates an unlimited, obscured environment for the story itself to be encompassed within. Leopold Mozart had noted that there were some very intricate pieces for concertos, trios and solos that were made specifically for these less popular pieces. These models consisted of notes like F1 A1 D F# B. In the early 1609, Adriano Banchieri made an early bass that had six strings D1 G1 C E A d, but in the next century, it was overpowered by a three stringed bass that contained either A1 D2 G2 or G1 D2 G2 and also had no frets. As the poem The Silken Tent goes on, the metaphors become complex and more and more are tangled within one another. The relationship between these two variables was very weak and insignificant, r(206)= .04, p=.558, as summarized in Table 1. The threshold significant p value for data is p .05. From our data, we can conclude that the weak correlation between social pressure from family and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise is likely due to chance and is therefore insignificant. Introduction The topic that will be discussed in this proposal is the effects of dancing on gait and ankle flexibility in dancers. The population being researched is dancers and will make comparisons between dancers and non dancers. The purpose of this research is for examining the effects dancing has on ankle flexibility and gait patterns in dancers and determining whether or not there is a difference between the gait patterns of dancers in comparison to non dancers. Dancing requires extreme ankle postures and unique balance. Intensive and long term practice of extreme ankle postures can cause changes in gait patterns in dancers during normal walking (Lung, Chern, Hsieh, Yang, 2008). Literature Review: The aim of the research carried out by Lung, Chern, Hsieh, and Yang (2008), was to investigate the differences in gait patterns between dancers and non dancers. • 32. Sieve Analysis Test Lab Report INTRODUCTION Aggregate is one of the basic constituents of concrete. Its quality is of considerable importance because about three quarter of the volume of concrete is occupied by aggregates. One of the physical properties of aggregate that influence the property of concrete is the grading of aggregate. The grading of aggregate defines the proportions of particles of different size in the aggregate. The grading of fine (size lt; 5 mm) and coarse (size gt; 5 mm) aggregates are generally required to be within the limits specified in BS 882: 1992. OBJECTIVE The objective of this experiment is to obtain the grading curve for both fine and coarse aggregate. APPARATUS 1. Balance balance or scale used in testing fine and coarse... After this weight has been determined, the next larger particles was added into the same pan and the cumulative weight was determined. Coarse Aggregate 1. A representative sample was chosen by quartering (according to BS 812: Part 102: 1984) or by use of a sample splitter (Fig. 2C1 3). • 33. The Future of Human Evolution The Future of Human Evolution Alexander R. Prof. Kohn Darwinism and Evolution 12 6 96 Evolution, the science of how populations of living organisms change over time in response to their environment, is the central unifying theme in biology today. Evolution was first explored in its semi modern form in Charles Darwin s 1859 book, Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection. In this book, Darwin laid out a strong argument for evolution. He postulated that all species have a common ancestor from which they are descended. As populations of species moved into new habitats and new parts of the world, they faced different environmental conditions. Over time, these populations accumulated modifications, or adaptations, that allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first step in understand evolution in present terms is to mention genetic engineering (including genetic drift). The first step to understanding genetic engineering, and embracing its possibilities for society, is to obtain a rough knowledge base of its history and method. The basis for altering the evolutionary process is dependent on the understanding of how individuals pass on characteristics to their offspring. Genetics achieved its first foothold on the secrets of nature s evolutionary process when an Austrian monk named Gregor Mendel developed the first laws of heredity. Using these laws, scientists studied the characteristics of organisms for most of the next one hundred years following Mendel s discovery. These early studies concluded that each organism has two sets of character determinants, or genes (Stableford 16). For instance, in regards to eye color, a child could receive one set of genes from his father that were encoded one blue, and the other brown. The same child could al so receive two brown genes from his mother. The conclusion for this inheritance would be the child has a three in four chance of having brown eyes, and a one in three chance of having blue eyes (Stableford 16). Genes are transmitted through chromosomes which reside in the nucleus of every living organism s cells. Each chromosome is made up of fine strands of deoxyribonucleic acids, or DNA. • 36. Benefits Of Legalizing And Regulating Uber By legalising and regulating Uber there are several possible potential costs and benefits that society would face. Legalising and regulating Uber would negatively affect taxi companies since they are in competition with Uber (Cramer Krueger, 2016). It will cause a decrease in taxi companies revenue due to sharing the market with Uber (Rahel, 2016). Due to more cars on the road, traffic can be negatively affected and might result in congestion. It also leads to higher CO2 emission (Rogers, 2015). Government regulations and restrictions such as licenses are used to protect the taxi industry from competition (Petropoulos, 2016). Uber does not require its drivers to hold particular licenses, which has caused the actual value of taxi licenses to be decreased (Petropoulos, 2016). Before Uber entered the market, taxi companies benefited from regulations in place as they offered protection from competition (Petropoulos, 2016 and Rahel, 2016). These regulations have also caused a limitation in revenue earned by taxi companies since uber formed. Current regulations mean taxi drivers must conduct pick up and drop offs in areas defined under the regulations whilst Uber has no limitations regarding number of drivers or areas where drivers are to operate in. (Rahel, 2016). Due to the increase in competition taxi drivers income has been negatively affected and there has been a decrease in their salary (Rahel, 2016). The difference in rates emerges from the difference in weight of the glacier. If everyone will vote then the elected representative will be someone who will represent the believes and values of everyone or at least the majority. In that way, when the representative will do something for the nation, everyone will be able to be benefited from it. However, it is a harsh reality of our society that young people vote at lower rates than other age groups. There are a lot of reasons for that, for example, I think most young people are not interested enough in what the politicians are claiming to in their campaign. In this regard, the author states that capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017). Even in periods when capitalist economies seem to function relatively smoothly, without incidences such as recession or inflation, the Marxian theory depicts capitalism as a destructive economic system (Wolff Resnick, 2012). 2.3 Capitalism breeds inequality Karl Marx, a renowned philosopher and economist is against capitalism because he believed that created conditions that promoted inequality (Alfarsi, 2016). Capitalism creates two classes of people in society. In this regard, Marx states that capitalism results in a class of people known as proletarians who are majorly composed of the working class as well as the bourgeois which comprises of the capitalists who are the owners of the factors of production. Despite their positions as high proп¬Ѓle public п¬Ѓgures, their actions in private still calls for state punishment, forcing them to account for such undesirable actions. To ensure that the public upkeeps the conп¬Ѓdence towards the court, believing in its impartiality and justice, public п¬Ѓgures have to account for their private actions, especially illegal ones, regardless of how well they excel in ...
