A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

but because he is a man of high and heroic temper”
-Aristotle
2. Bob Marley
Bob Marley is widely accepted
and viewed as a leader of
happiness. Most songs by Bob
are aimed at lifting the
listeners spirits and
reminding them to keep
moving. “Don’t worry, be
happy” is a more famous
quote that portrays a
message of perseverance
and living your only life to
the fullest regardless of how
much struggle you face. Bob
Marley is my hero because
he keeps me moving forward
February 6 1945 – May 11 1981
3. Rob Dyrdek
Rob Dyrdek is a hero to me because
he uses his success for the good of
others. He has opened multiple
“Safe Spot Skate Spots” after
seeing the conditions of skate parks
in his home town, these are skate
parks designed so that kids will be
practicing skate boarding in a
better and more safe place.
Through selflessness and
generosity, Rob Dyrdek has made
his way onto my hero list.

Honest Abe is one of the

hand can go a long way.
6. Martin Luther King Jr.
I can not think of a better example
of a hero than MLK. He spoke
peacefully for equality for blacks
and to end segregation. If it
weren’t for the bravery displayed
by Martin Luther King Jr. some of
my friends may not be where they
are today. He risked his safety and
his life to ensure that future
generations of blacks are spared
from the hatred he endured.
7. Blake Zimmerman
Blake has been one of my
closest friends since we
met in 5th grade. He is
considered a hero
because he puts others
first. He cares about
others and what they
have to go through.
When he sees someone
with a problem he
instantly puts himself in
their shoes and tries to
help.
8. Mohandas K. Ghandi
Ghandi is my hero
because he led the
Indians to peaceful

against the british for
20 years. In 1946 he
gave India its freedom
by fighting a war
without actually
fighting.
9. George Washington
President 1789-1797. He was an able
leader who cared for the welfare of
his country. When making decisions
he was fair and honest. He did

same without him.
10. Mr. Durham
Mr. Durham, you are my hero because
you never give up and you care
about your students. When you first

you actually cared about us and that
your willpower seems unbreakable.
You are a great example to everyone
that wants to give up and you have a
positive impact on us all.
11. Tony Drzewiecki
My Dad is my hero because
he has always been there
for me. He is a lieutenant
at the Leon County
Sheriffs office and is a
model police officer. He
doesn’t abuse his power or

unfairly. The traits that
make my dad a hero are
his caring personality and
his integrity.
