Muhammad Ali was an American professional boxer and activist. He was born Cassius Clay in 1942 and converted to Islam in the 1960s, taking the name Muhammad Ali. Ali won gold at the 1960 Olympics and went on to become heavyweight champion, defending his title multiple times before retiring in 1979. Later diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Ali lit the Olympic torch in 1996.
