This document describes the author's discipleship journey. It discusses how he initially struggled to be a disciple due to a lack of dedication to reading and learning. He realized he needed a mentor and decided to study under teachers at his church. Over time he gained more opportunities to study theology and the Bible at college. While the church provided resources and teachers, there were also challenges like members quarreling. Currently he teaches at Bible schools and advises churches to open their own schools to equip disciples to do evangelism. His goal is to prioritize discipleship making in his future work with the church.

My Discipleship Journey: Growth Through Mentorship and Teaching
1. 1
My Discipleship Journey
The discipleship journey of my life is in undulation of Christian life. Sometimes I feel
ashamed while I look back in regard to be disciple and make disciple. The greatest thing
I have learnt from my past is I am not strong enough to be disciple. Of course God has
made things available to me through the church. The church had a training center,
library and good teachers. I have benefitted only from the teaching of the church. The
books in the library were not functional to me. The reason is I was not eager to read.
In my spiritual growth I have got myself in need of mentor to be a good disciple. But I
have lost my opportunity to be disciple. I started to write abroad to get spiritual books to
develop my spiritual life. In the mean time I found a great booklet that changed my
attitude about being discipleship. After that I have decided to be under the teacher of
the church. This helped me to be active in learning and teaching process. God opened
my heart to hear what He is saying to me. God was teaching me to follow the preaching
of the beatitudes.
When the church has the best teachers, the people will give time to be under them even
being the first to attend the programs. That is why I am telling my discipleship story. I
was eager to find best teacher in the city. After many years I have got chance to be
admitted at college for Biblical and theological studies. In passing through colleges I
was under many gifted and persuasive teachers to be disciple of Christ Jesus.
The great challenge in my disciple life was to see Christians quarreling each other for
the position that the church gives. Why the born again Christians are involving in such
situations? This will make the church disciple making more slow. I grew up in my
Christian life in such situations.
I am currently doing teaching in Bible schools in different denominations. This helped
me to fill the gap what I lost in the past. Disciple making is the hard work but the fruit is
enough to have mature enough disciples that works evangelism. I tried to advice
churches to open Bible schools for the church members. In the previous of my life I was
a missionary for four years in Tigray.

The church made me to be a board member in education department and we are now
planning to open Bible School in a local church which I am a member. If it is God’s will
at the mid of September 2013. This will make the denomination to have a mature,
equipped and ardent disciple of Jesus Christ for the expansion of God’s Kingdom.
The biggest challenge in making disciple is lack of time for me and for the church
members. The church is seeking volunteers to attend trainings, Bible schools and every
church activity. As I am convinced, the church is here to make disciple for the Kingdom
of God.
The challenge I have looked is the church is using the energy and resource to complete
what is in hand – program. Mostly the church is concerned about programs. I have to
change the eye glass from programs to make disciple. We are planning to change the
church situations in to the vision which we are making. We need to reach the
surrounding people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that we may see saved people.
Discipleship is my job and has to be my church priority. I decided to make discipleship
making my priority in my future life. God is faithful to lead me in doing his project. He is
sufficient.
