1. What, for you, is the core of the gospel?
The core of the gospel is for me, the message of Christ to His
people. It is not discriminatory and does not gather its power
from any but the Lord Himself. This message is life-giving, it
brings hope, and helps us to recognize who we are in Him.
We have freedom in Christ yet also have much responsibility.
The gospel is for us to train and equip and encourage others
not only in the body of Christ, the church, but also in the
community as well. The message of Jesus is primarily that of
love; it is a love of other and neighbor over against that which
is selfish and your own desires, wants, needs. 1)Love God 2)
Love others That is what Christ wants us to do. For we must
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all its righteousness,
and all these things will be added unto you, etc”. By seeking
the Lord first, and setting your heart right before Him, all else
can flow naturally out of your desire and burning love and
passion for Him, your desires will be His desires, showing His
love to a world in need and teaching those how to live
according to a truth that can set you free.
2. What has been your involvement in church over the past
several years?
I’ve been a youth minister of sorts at a small church in Warm
Springs, GA and was involved in many various activities that
were included but not limited to food pantry ministry,
teaching Sunday School and VBS, preparing lessons for
Wednesday night youth Bible Study, sitting in and
contributing to deacon meetings, doing hospital visitation and
pastoral care duties, and being mentored by the pastor
overall. It was a fruitful relationship that I very much enjoyed
3. in my short time there. While I was an undergraduate, I was
attending a non-denominational church in Macon, Ga, and
was very happy that it had a “college group” that I could
attend for Bible studies. I attended it for a while and enjoyed
it. However, during this time, there was some difficulty with
the leader of the college group and the pastor of the church,
not agreeing on things. To cut it short, the leader of group
along with several other individuals decided to leave the
church and start their own church based on the first church in
the book of Acts. These people are intentional about loving,
serving, and helping others without expecting any benefits or
even anything at all in return. It is an intentional community
built on love and service to God and other as well as
strengthening each other daily with prayer, bible study, and
communication. These people have done a great deal for me
and to me truly exhibit the message of Christ.
3. What is your current life situation (student, retiree, mom,
etc.)? I am a student who will be attending graduate
studies at McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta, GA,
pursuing a Masters of Divinity.
4. Describe an event that has made a spiritual impact on you.
I have dealt with the loss of 4 people in family from the years
of 2008 to 2012, throughout my college undergrad career.
This has taught me that no matter what, God is in control and
has a plan, and I can not always choose what happens to me,
but I can choose my response. This is a very personal issue I
would rather not write a lot about since it is easier to tell in
person.
