Most designers are experts at improving upon existing experiences - but how does your process translate to a brand new product? How do you keep a brand new product alive, keep stakeholders passionate, and keep your customer at the center of it all all from behind a veil of secrecy? Cheryl shares some of the processes and techniques she used to help get the Echo Look from a blue-sky idea to a tangible, validated experience in the hands of customers worldwide. You’ll leave with a clearer picture of how to incorporate natural user interface concepts into your envisioning work, and how to set yourself up for success in the challenging and often secretive environment of new product design.
The document discusses pre-production for various types of projects. It provides examples of paperwork that could be included in pre-production for print, moving image, video games, and audio productions. This includes risk assessments, schedules, budgets, equipment lists, and other planning documents. It also gives advice on creating style sheets, storyboards, and contingency plans to prepare for potential issues before production begins.
Laird Snowden led a team that successfully brought up a $1B GaAs fab within 90 days at Tri-Quint. He has extensive experience in NPI testing and validation, product design, semiconductor fab bring up, and moving from planning to full high-volume offshore production. He identified and fixed a giant profit hole in one of his business units that turned it from a loss to a 50% return on $500M in gross sales.

Bring your ideas to life! Convince your boss to that open source development is faster and cheaper than the "safe" COTS solution they probably hate anyway. Let's investigate ways to get real-life, functional prototypes up with blazing speed. We'll look at and compare tools for truly rapid development including Python, Django, Flask, PHP, Amazon EC2 and Heroku.
This document discusses storytelling versus storyscaping. It argues that storyscaping is more immersive than traditional storytelling by creating an experience space, organizing ideas rather than big ideas, developing storyscapes instead of just storylines, applying systems thinking, and using commas instead of periods. Storyscaping engages consumers in an interactive environment rather than just passively sharing a story.
The document discusses design and communication through symbols and patterns. It presents that the human ability to connect two-dimensional marks to three-dimensional objects provides an effective form of communication. It also explains that symbols and patterns resonate on an instinctive level, allowing for a deeper understanding of design challenges. The document aims to explain why design communicates through symbols and patterns.

This document provides guidance for startups preparing a pitch deck for a demo day event in order to raise investment. It recommends developing interesting company content before creating the deck, establishing a clear objective and messages, and telling a compelling story through 5-10 simple, visual slides that each convey their key point within 5 seconds. It also stresses the importance of practicing the delivery to successfully convey the pitch within the 2-5 minute time limit on stage. SketchDeck offers a service to help design effective demo day decks.

This document provides promotional ideas and product images for various items including coolers, totes, backpacks and food containers. It highlights expanding collections, customization opportunities and shipping details. The focus is on sparking creativity and reimagining promotional advertising through unique gift and packaging solutions.
The document describes changes to the planned timeline of a student project. Research took longer than expected due to work done outside of school. Designing went quicker than planned due to skill with the design software. Manufacturing began earlier than planned, leaving more time for detailed filing and other elements. Overall, the unplanned timeline allowed for more thorough research, design, and manufacturing stages of the project.

This job was finished in 2012 in time for the
holiday season. Michael Norris, created great
hand drawn illustrations, and I laid out and
constructed a visual design that utilized their
logos colors and theme. The final result was
sent to Oregon Printing of Dayton, Ohio.

Designing a proposed web site for Skillet was
a unique project, it had to be coded using
nothing but HTML and accompanying theme

C l i c k t o V i e w . At the FilmDayton Festival, which ran from
August 23rd-25th, I produced an introductory
motion graphics presentation that fit with their
old film motif. It Played before each feature. It
was about 10 minutes. It was made entirely in

8. Join us for our November Series...
CD Labeling and Packaging
This was done for Living Word Church of
Vandalia, Ohio. The iterative process involved
disc art creation and design, Jewel Case insert
design, Vinyl Multi-disc insert design, and
Audio Engineering skills to complete. These
CDs and DVDs are already being distributed.
This was part of a nearly year long contract
job.

Think Big, REAL Big.
With a 5 person creative team, UpDayton, 60
or more volunteers, and custom paint from
Ace Hardware, this design was transposed
and painted onto a bridge in about 8 hours on
June 2nd 2012.
I created a multitude of solutions for this
project ranging from graphical representations
of the bridge in Illustrator to physical objects
used to properly and uniformly space sidewalk
chalk 4 inches apart. The planning took almost
5 months, and meticulous attention to detail.
