The document discusses using videos in English language classes and provides 10 techniques for how to effectively incorporate videos. It explains that videos can help students improve their English comprehension, speaking, and writing skills. Some of the 10 techniques described are silent viewing where students watch without sound to guess what is happening, roleplaying scenes from videos, and having students predict what will happen next in a video. The overall goal of using videos and these techniques is to make English learning fun and engaging for students.

Hammr Project Update: Machine Images and Docker Containers for your Cloud, OW...OW2
Hammr is an OW2 open source, command-line tool for creating consistent and repeatable machine images for different cloud or virtual environments, or migrating live systems from one environment to another. Designed for cloud era environments, where agility and automation are key, hammr helps organizations automate the creation of machine images for hybrid environments. This presentation will focus on the hybrid capabilities of hammr for any virtual or cloud target environment. It will also include a focus on DevOps and Docker integration, and show how hammr can be used to quickly build and run Docker images, helping accelerate development and test processes among other benefits. Finally, we will present the latest hammr features, including the ability for cloud providers to customize target platforms and expose their own IaaS infrastructure as top-level branded objects accessible via hammr, thus easing the path from user images to their cloud infrastructure.
Consistent service integration in your workflows with OW2 Scarbo 2.0, OW2con'...OW2
Marc Dutoo from Open Wide presented Scarbo 2.0, an SOA-consistent BPM solution built on Eclipse technology. Scarbo 2.0 integrates with the EasySOA registry to allow business analysts to design processes using known services, developers to complete processes technically, and operators to deploy processes on Bonita 5 which can then be run by users. The demo showed exporting a process from JWT to the EasySOA registry and executing the process on Bonita 5 using SOA services.

European Open Data Portal and Policy Compass: from national Open Data reposit...OW2
In November 2015 the European Commission officially lunched the European Data Portal http://www.europeandataportal.eu . The mission of the portal is to become the catalogue of all European public data providing them in all official languages of the European Union. The portal is harvesting metadata from heterogeneous open data portals of 28 EU and other 11 European countries. It lists over 580 000 datasets and it is the biggest Open Data portal worldwide. From the techincal perspective, it is the first official Open Data portal implementing the new DCAT Application Profile specification.
The portal is the place to find European public data and it is a basis for other innovative services. One of them is Policy Compass https://policycompass.eu. It brings together open public data, social media, e-participation platforms, causal models, and argumentation technology for constructing, sharing, visualizing and debating progress metrics and impacts of policies.
Both portals are Open Source. They provide rich APIs and may become a data source for other applications.
Software is eating the world and open source licenses are eating software. This leads to the presence of OSS in nearly all the electronic systems we interact with daily, such as communication devices, cars, trains, healthcare systems, entertainment environments. This entails that the quality of the OSS components we use and produce is getting progressively as important as the quality of the air we breathe. One of the OW2 key missions is to continously design and implement a roadmap for enabling quality and trustworhy open source software, through a dedicated platform named SQuAT. This talk will present the status and the future of this platform, its underlying models and tools, and how you can use it for assessing and improving the quality of your project.
Cloud and Grid Integration OW2 Conference Nov10OW2
This document discusses integrating cloud and grid computing resources. It provides background on CDAC, India's national grid called Garuda, and CDAC's private cloud infrastructure. The key requirements for integration are discussed, such as resource management across networks, execution management, monitoring, and security. The scope of integration is described as utilizing unused grid resources through cloud bursting and optimizing utilization of grid resources by deploying cloud applications on the grid. An integration architecture is proposed using an Integrator module to interface scheduling systems and deploy images and applications across grid and cloud resources.

- Partnerships and S-corporations can elect a fiscal tax year other than the calendar year if they can demonstrate their natural business cycle aligns with the alternative year. However, they must still make estimated tax payments to cover taxes on income earned during the deferral period between the fiscal year-end and December 31.
- Personal service corporations, whose shareholders provide personal services like dentists or architects, generally must use a calendar year but can use a fiscal year if certain conditions are met to prevent improper deferral of shareholder compensation.
- Depreciation allows taxpayers to allocate the cost of assets over their useful lives using methods like straight-line or MACRS, which provides accelerated depreciation schedules. Additional bonus
Here are the steps to solve this example:
1. O'Neill Machinery's taxable income is $1,445,500 which is greater than the $659,000 cost of the asset, so the full $500,000 Section 179 deduction can be taken.
2. The Section 179 deduction reduces the asset basis to $159,000 ($659,000 original cost - $500,000 Section 179 deduction).
3. The MACRS depreciation on the remaining $159,000 basis is 14.29% of $159,000 = $22,701 (using the MACRS table for a 7-year asset).
4. The total depreciation deduction for the current year is
This document discusses various tax credits available to individual taxpayers, including:
1) The child tax credit of $1,000 per child under age 17, which phases out for higher incomes.
2) The earned income credit, a refundable credit for lower-income workers and families.
3) The child and dependent care credit, which provides a tax credit for working families' childcare expenses.
4) Education credits like the American Opportunity Credit and Lifetime Learning Credit that provide tax relief for qualified higher education expenses.
5) Special rules and limitations that apply to these various individual tax credits.
The document describes OtaSizzle, an open platform for transferring technology from research projects to practice through four main components: conducting social interaction research, developing services for university campuses, providing an open innovation platform, and replicating the platform internationally. It discusses the research themes, platform users, example services, developing an international network, and addresses intellectual property rights and data privacy considerations.
