Beijing Opera has four main roles - Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou. Sheng are male roles like warriors or gentlemen, while Dan are female like noblewomen or charming girls. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

During the 1950’s composer Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote several well known compositions. Stan Getz made commercially successful recordings.
- 7. MILES IN THE SKY Miles In The Sky released 1968 Built on the groups earlier work but added electronic instruments such electric guitar & electric bass, and Fender Rhodes piano. Contemporary sound palette. Used a modal and groove based way of playing utilizing free improvisation techniques over steady rock grooves.
- 8. JAZZ-ROCK IN BRITAIN Early 1960’s Blues renaissance in Britain. Alex Korner forms Blues Incorporated 1961. Graham Bond forms The Graham Bond Organisation with John McLaughlin (gtr) & Ginger Baker (drs). 1966 Cream (Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce bass, Eric Clapton Gtr) plays Windsor Jazz Festival. Also in 1966, Jimi Hendrix arrived in London.

Examples: Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul (piano) Dave Holland, Michael Henderson (Bass) John McLaughlin, Mike Stern, John Scofield (Guitar) Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette (Dr’s) • 1970 Miles plays Isle of Wight Festival, also on the bill is Jimi Hendrix. • Recorded 7 albums in the early 1970’s including In a Silent Way & Bitches Brew. • 1976 – 1980 withdrew from Music.
- 12. MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA 1971 John McLaughlin forms the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Beatles travel to India in 1968. Eastern influence on popular culture at this time. Psychedelic label applied to music, refers to effects of drugs, prevalent within the culture at the time. The Mahavishnu Orchestra built on the work of Miles Davis what would become known as Fusion.
- 13. FUSION 1973 Herbie Hancock releases Head Hunters 1976 Pat Metheny releases Bright Size Life. 1977 Weather Report releases Heavy Weather
- 14. SMOOTH JAZZ Very similar style to Fusion. Differences are slower tempos, pre-programmed rhythms, improvisations tend to be more restrained and less chromatic. Uses Piano and Sax, as well as electric keyboards and guitars, etc. Early example is Wes Montgomery (b.1923 – d.1968) recordings of Beatles song - A Day In The Life.
