2. Fall Out Boy – “The Take Over, The Breaks Over”
• I really like this video mainly due to the white background I feel it allows the artist to really portray their
image in the way they want to. I would suggest that this video goes as a Narrative type of music video, as
chosen form Paul Watson and Diane Railton four main types of video, due to the music video following , more
or less, the song being sung compared with a staged performance which is usually used by R&B and pop
singers , as it tends to advertise their clothing lines and they try to portray an image for them selves.
• There are many long shots on the band as fans
prefer to see the band together than anyone of them
being singled out. The are medium shots of each of
the singer Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz the most
recognised members of the bands.
I like how unique this video is with the way it has used the
white background to transform the video from a casual band
playing into a narrative storyboard by following the bulldog
and bringing in break dancing postman, sexy cat women and
angry fans turned around by the voice of a talking dog.

3. • The thing you recognise in this video is
that the dig is dreaming not one of the
band members that is the usual person to
dream. This means the video is focused
on the dog with the band appearing as a
Narrator . I love the faces made by the
dog every time the camera cuts back
from the band to the dog as you go from
Aghhhh to laughing . This video is
focused on the dog dreaming , so when
you see bones raining from the sky to
hot, sexy women dancing in kitty out fits
you watch jaw dropped secretly smiling.
When Patrick stump is dressed in a stake
outfit you hope and pray the dog takes a
bite.
The Mise en scene is very minimum due to a white
background which makes it very light , plus the band in dark
outfits make it really observant and suits really well. The
placement of the raining bones and dancing postman make
you feel that the band are watching which could also be
down to the white background , which gives you the feeling
that it is never ending.

4. Fall Out Boy – “The Take Over, The Breaks Over”
There is a relationship between the lyrics and the
visuals as told by Andrew Goodwin s music
characteristics . This video is based on fallout boy and
how there changing, it’s away of telling their fans a
message .
The video does represent women in a sexual portrayal,
dressed in cat costumes, like Andrew Goodwin's idea this
video show Voyeurism towards women. There is also
choreographed postman which usually isn't expected in this
type of music but it does make the video even better.

5. Foo Fighters – The Pretender
• This video I really enjoyed due to its simplicity of
a band playing together. In this video they seem to
be playing in a hall which looks really great. This
is a Narrative type of video as told in Ann Kaplan's
book. This relates to Andrew Goodwin's idea
which the words should relate to the song. This
video shows the band in its most open form
compared with other videos which I like and why
the fans like it, it has 39 million hits and 65,000
likes, which means that it must be well liked
video.
• The video is based on Dave Grohl , the singer,
taunting riot police with the song which looks
fantastic. There are many close ups on Dave Grohl as
he is the most popular member of the band. There are
lots of short quick shots of each member of the band
playing the instruments usually during the chorus
when they really play. When the red liquid bursts out
the back it looks brilliant because that’s when the riot
police charge forward and feels like a real battle
between the two.

6. Foo Fighters – The Pretender
• The Foo fighters the pretender is a classic of
the classics from the rock genre. I love the
video . Because there are a lot of beats in the
song this really helps the video as it can be
edited to the beat. There is a real feel of anger
in this video it starts of calm and gradually
increases until you just explode with anger
which is what the pain t is used to signify. The
police give a real violent feel to the video .
The camera is usually a long shot but does
cut into a close up especially on the police to
give you a feel of there anger.
I really like the continuing movement of the camera when it
pivots over and under the band or closing in or withdrawing
out of the face of the band members. The continuous pivoting
along the faces o f the police. Towards the end when the
whole motion of the video just slows to a point when you
feel a war is going on . The use of many cameras would have
had to be used to catch the moment and the slowing down
would be to prolong the action.
The Foo Fighters a great band with great music but I liked
this video because it was different It starts of plain and then
by the end its crazy and some where from the riot police
charging from the back wall exploding you become
Immerged into the video.

7. All Time Low – I Feel Like Dancing
• Paul Watson and Diane Railton stated there are four main types of video I think this is a staged video, but that its
been staged to take the mick of the usual artists who do staged performance, like Cheryl Cole and Snoop Dog. They
do this by going through the stages of how to make a video I found this ironic which is a reason why I chose it. The
first stage is about “product placement” the second stage is “sex” and the third is “stealing other artists ideas” this is
also ironic because these are the three biggest uses of a music video. This video would come under “the song and
dance number” by Joe Gow’s six central genres of music video, because the video focuses on the physical events and
the vocal presentation of the song, which is lip synced.

8. All Time Low – I Feel Like Dancing
• This video is used to a comic effect, to make us laugh and smile,
which would be another way in which they have managed to make
fun of the other staged performances. I it is very rare for a band to
do a staged performance as they are unlikely to have there own
close line or have anything to advertise abut them selves as they
are band not one person. The different shots are used to show the
discomfort of the band individually through out the video from
guts coming onto them to dressing like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
The shots are spread out upon where the action is but it mainly
shows the singer , Alexander Gaskarth, in a close up as well as the
main guitarist Jack Barakat. The shots are mainly long shots to
capture the band playing together , or dancing together.
• All time low is one of the all time greatest videos for taking the
mick out of a whole music genre. The way they do this is so
innocent as well They go from Product placement and getting
soaking wet to being charged down by hot women And even some
men which is why it such a brilliant video for comedy. They go
from innocently playing to dancing and prancing like lady gaga,
Half naked and covered with sweets like Katy Perry.

9. All Time Low – I Feel Like Dancing• One of my major likes about this video
is the fact that you feel like the band
have no control and that there puppets
of a major record brand. The camera is
always moving but not to a large extent
it makes you feel like the band don’t
want to do anything but when the
chorus comes up it speeds up and
constantly switching between the band
mates so you can see their discomfort.
There is the constant use of pivoting
through the band so you feel your
walking through them. The are 3 mise en scene uses in this video the first is the band playing in
a large recording studio which ,makes it seem real as if it is a real record
label. The band are raised from the floor to seem closer and higher than
everyone else. They set up with lots of Rock star banners and drinks as
use of a unbearably noticeable product placement which makes you
almost cringe. The second is when the use of men and women in their
underwear the room has been given more artificial light to emphasis the
sexiness of them. And the 3rd is use of a green screen to show the
v=band stealing other peoples performances which is really quite funny.
