As all the people that filled in my questionnaire were in the same year as me at college
100% of them were between the ages 0f 16-20.

2. What is your occupation?

Just over 75% of people who filled out the questionnaire were employed because most of
them have part time jobs, the other 20 odd % are unemployed because they don’t have a
job or used to have one but they have left for some reason. Of course none of them were
retired because of their age range.

3. The main option that was chosen was Dance music which is quite stereotypical of this age
group because people aged 16-20 are associated strongly with dance music and raves.
Almost contrastingly though the second highest chosen option was Rock music which is at
the opposite end of the scale to Dance. Next highest was Indie which is again strongly linked
with this age range and 4th highest was Rap music.
Where do you usually watch music videos?

50% of people said the place they watch music videos most is on their smartphone which
again is stereotypical of this age group because they are known for wanting and having the
latest technology so this was the answer you would predict them to put. Second highest was
again another use of technology (the internet), watching videos on youtube. Although
Facebook didn’t get chosen at all.

4. What style of music video do you prefer?

Performance based videos got the largest amount of votes showing that most people prefer
a dance routine orientated video rather than a narrative style video where they have to
follow a storyline. Or an abstract video where its almost like a riddle and there is an
underlying storyline that the audience has to work out.

5. Stemming from these results you can see that more people stated that they would prefer a
hybrid genre, which is when a song is a crossover between 2 genres, for example, a mixture
of rap and rock. Rather than just one sole genre, for example, Rap.

From the pie chart you can see that the most popular hybrid genre that was chosen was
Dance/Pop. This was probably the most likely choice to be picked the most because all the
people that filled in the questionnaires were aged 17-19 and dance and pop music are, you
would say, the two most popular genres of that age group. The second highest choice was
Rap/R’n’B and then lastly Dance/Rap, with nobody choosing Rock/Pop.

Over 50% of people said that the song was the most important part of a music video which
is the answer that you would expect the majority of people to put because without the song
the whole concept of the music video would be pointless because there would be no
backing track.
