3. 0.06 – 0.08: Screenshots telling the story of the
whole music video are played rapidly one after the
other as the beat kicks in. This shows a relationship
between what is illustrated in the music video and
the music being played.
0.27: Tight angle shot of the artist singing, this
makes the lyrics seem more meaningful to the
artist, also it is an example of the female gaze as it
shows the lead singer in a good light.
0.55: Demonstration of genre characteristics
through the idea of love, this is also a strong bond
between what is illustrated in the music video and
the meaning of the song.
4. 2.18: Example of the female gaze used, it is a very
subtle example used but that is the trend with
indie/alternative music videos. Female attraction is
often displayed through facial features as opposed
to the naked body which is seen in the majority of
hip-hop videos.
2.30: This shows examples of the music video
appealing to the viewers desires through an
unrealistic scene, it shows two people dancing
round and kissing whilst fireworks go off
surrounding them, it creates an idea of perfection
that viewers relate to the music through a
completely unrealistic situation.
6. 0.32: Close up tight angle shot of the artists face,
this is frequent through the opening of the music
video to give the artists face a lot of screen time.
0.52: As the beat drops and the music speeds up, it
shows the artist playing in front of a live audience
and there is 10 seconds of fast paced editing, this
shows a relationship between the music and what
is illustrated in the music video.
1.21: As the music slows down more, it cuts to a
wide angle view of the artist sat in a more calm
environment, this shows another example of the
music being related to what is shown in the video
and represents a more realistic situation.
7. 2.30: Unrealistic scene which appeals to the viewers
desire as the artist walks out of a house to a crowd
of screaming fans.
9. 0.10: Inside the first opening seconds of the music
video we get a close up of the artist singing so
anyone viewing the video will definitely see him.
This is a technique used by record labels to
publicise and sell the artist.
0.29: At this point we see the artist laughing in
front of a sad looking clown in a garden, this
complete randomness and abstractness from the
real world interests the viewer and causes them to
carry on watching.
1.04: A low angle shot captures the artist giving
him a sense of importantness to the viewer, this
happens whilst his group of friends are in the
background drinking and appearing rowdy which
fits the trends of this style of music.
10. 1.56: The artist is seen surrounded by his friends
all drunkenly singing through a smashed pane of
glass, this also helps associate the song to rowdy
thug behavior that appeals to the artists fans.
