Crying For The Caroline's 1930
Crying For The Caroline's is considered one of the first ‘music videos’. This isn’t the kind of music video we know today,
it was more of short film that would commonly be seen back in the day of its release.
Subterranean Homesick Blues 1965
Subterranean Homesick Blues was sang by Bob Dylan in the 1965. At this point technology was slightly more
advanced, in particular the camera looks a lot better and lower shutter speeds likely allowed for quicker
movements/actions. This video however was mostly still except the signs that Bob Dylan was dropping to reveal
key points in the lyrics. This is most like a music video we could see today, despite the lack of development in
technology.
Video Killed the Radio Star 1979
Video killed the radio start is one of the better known ‘first’ music videos. This is due to it being the first
video aired on the 24/7 music channel MTV. At this point coloured cameras had been created giving the
creator more to work with. This video was aired much later than the others, however can still be seen as a
first music video as it is one of the earliest that closely represents a video we will see today.
