Music of the 50s, 60s and 70s
1. Music in the 50s, 60s and 70s
By Jonathon Gilmour
2. The 50s
The 50s was a time when people were
recovering from the second world war. Some
major events that occurred during the 50s were.
The Korean war, a 3 year conflict that divides the
North and South to this day. On top of that,
Dwight D. Eisenhower, was elected president of
the US in 1952 and re-elected for another 4 year
term in 1956.
3. The 50s
A good example of a 50s artist is: Elvis Prestly
Elvis Prestly was among the most influential singers
of the 50s, in fact, it earned the the title “the king
(of rock and roll)”. He was born on January 8th 1935
and died August 16th 1977. He was an American
singer. Some hits by Elvis Prestly are: Can’t help
falling in love, Suspicious Minds, Burning love,
Hound Dog and Love me tender. But the most
notorious of his songs was: Jailhouse Rock.

4. The 60s
The 1960s were predominantly occupied by he
Vietnam War, as well as the assassination of
John F. Kennedy. Although we managed to take
man to the moon in this time with Neil
Armstrong as the lead, which was “one small
step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.
5. The 60s
The best example of a 60s artist is: Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison is an American singer-songwriter
known for a distinct, impassioned voice, complex
structures, and dark emotional ballads. He was
born on April 23rd 1936 and died on December 6th
1988. Some of his greatest songs included: Blue
Bayou, Crying, It’s Over, You Got It, I Drove All Night
and In Dreams. But his most famous song has got to
be: Oh, Pretty Woman

6. The 70s
The 70s overall had possibly the fastest
acceleration in world population in human
history, this would ultimately have the 70s
remembered greatly from such population
growth. It was a massive “pivot of change”. The
birth of more modern computer hardware really
meant we were to prosper in an age where the
last 60 years did not influence the decade at all.
7. The 70s
The best example of a 70s singer is: John Lennon
John Lennon was an English singer, songwriter,
musician and activist, he co-founded “The Beatles”,
the most successful and influential band in the
history of popular music. He was born on October
9th 1940, and met the sad end of an assassination
on December 8th 1980. Some of his greatest hits
include: Starting Over, Stand By Me, Oh My Love,
How Do You Sleep and Instant Karma. But the song I
would like to address is: Imagine
