Benny Boom is a music video director and founder of Gorilla Flix, Inc. He trained at Temple University and worked under directors Little X and Hype Williams. He has directed many successful music videos for artists like Sean Paul, Nas, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, 50 Cent, and P. Diddy. Boom also directed the 2009 film Next Day Air and was nominated for Video Director of the Year at the 2011 BET Awards. He is known for his work on Keyshia Cole music videos and the films Next Day Air and S.W.A.T: Firefight.

2. Background of Benny Boom Benny Boom (born on July 22, 1971) is a music video director and current director of Gorilla Flix, Inc. He trained at Temple University's School of Radio, Television, & Film, and also served as a protégé of veteran director Little X and Hype Williams. He has also directed music videos for Sean Paul, Nas, Amerie, Kelly Rowland, Monica, Keyshia Cole, Mario, Ciara ,Cassidy, Lil' Kim, LL Cool J, Nelly, P. Diddy, 50 Cent and many others. Boom is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He directed the 2009 film, Next Day Air. He was nominated for Video Director of the Year at the BET Awards of 2011. His most recognized for the movie Next Day Air, S.W.A.T:Firefight and the work he has done for the majority of Keyshia Cole music videos.

I chose to do my case study on music director Benny Boom because he has a various range of music videos that he has given his artistic flair to which conveys a story and compliments the lyrics of the song. Just to name a few, he directed ‘Buy You A Drank’ by T-Pain ft. Young Joc, ‘Beep’ by Pussycat Dolls ft. Will.I.Am, ‘Give It Up To Me’ by Sean Paul ft. Keyshia Cole, ‘Let It Go’ by Keyshia Cole featuring Missy Elliot and Lil Kim (he has done the majority of Keyshia Cole videos) and ‘Single’ by New Kids on the Block ft. Neyo.

4. Jazmine Sullivan-10 Seconds According to Goodwin, one of the features of music video is a relationship between music and visuals. This video is full of suspense as we are wondering when Jazmine Sullivan will cause the button which will cause an explosion. The way the video is set is the same as hostage scenes in movies. In this context, Jazmine is holding the guy hostage for playing with her heart and now he has 10 seconds to explain why and whether or not it was worth it. The colours used throughout this music video is dreary and dark, foreshadowing something bad.

6. LL Cool J ft. The Dream-Baby This music video is very colourful and adventurous. The video shows what happens on a night out at the club and the music is backed up by the visuals. The lighting used compliments the video because it emphasizes the important aspects such as LL Cool J being in the limelight in the club.

8. Robin Thicke-Lost Without You This video is really sentimental as the visuals work in sync with the music. The video is in memory of a loved one. The video is sexy but sophisticated at the same time as Robin croons to his lover .
