The Museum of Aviation recognizes the importance of STEM education and provides hands-on learning opportunities to supplement classroom learning. In fiscal year 2015, the Museum provided over 124,000 hours of STEM instruction to nearly 50,000 participants, equivalent to over 126 school years of instruction. However, decreasing budgets and staff pose challenges to sustaining programming. The Museum aims to strengthen its position as a national STEM academy by expanding programs, increasing partnerships with higher education institutions, and providing greater outreach to underserved groups.

2. Education in America is at a critical juncture, and the Museum of
Aviation recognizes the urgency and embraces this priority. The
Museum’s programs greatly enhance the traditional classroom-
based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
education experiences of children by providing constructive,
hands-on learning opportunities unmatched by any other regional
organization or facility. Participation in educational programming
was 49,933 in FY2015 and will continue to grow, as the need for
this type of educational programming is greater now than ever
before. Decreasing budgets and decreased staff poses significant
challenges in sustaining high-level programming. Simply stated,
we have to do more with less.
Teachers and Students
The Museum of Aviation Education Center operates Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and History-focused
programs for learners’ ages 4 and older. Rigorous, goal-setting
experiences challenge students to solve problems, and improve upon
skills learned in school. Programs are aligned to the Georgia Standards
of Excellence. Programs highlight career opportunities and workforce
development strategies and are conducted both at the Museum of
Aviation and outreach locations.
ACE (Aviation Connections through Experiments)
Pre-K – 5th grade students: Science and Math STEM Field Trip
program at the Museum of Aviation feature activities correlated to
grade specific standards. The “Wonder Wings” Field Trip is for Pre K
– Kindergarten and features “Things that Fly” and “Models of
Transportation”. Outreach programs are available to bring fun
activities to the school sites.
Mission Quest Flight Simulation Center
6th grade students – Adults: The Mission Quest Flight Simulation
Program is for groups of students in grades 6-12. The 3-hour program
involves planning and flying a mission. The Mission Quest 6-hour
Team Building Program is an opportunity for adults to work together
to plan and fly a mission.
STAT: Teacher Training
K – 12 Educators: Programs are offered to educators and future
educators. These programs provide free NASA materials, monthly
STEM workshops, online training, conferences, and intern
opportunities for future educators.
And so much more…

The Museum of Aviation Foundation believes
in the positive impact that Public Educators
and their students can have on the
community. We believe that STEM education
can offer young minds the opportunity to
succeed and help achieve their fullest
potential.
3. Impact
The most overwhelming fact when accounting for
the education of 49,933 participants in one year is
that 124,389 hours of instruction were
administered during FY2015.
To break this down further,
Georgia educational requirements
are that 6th
– 12th
grade students
receive 990 hours of instruction per
year (810 for K – 3rd
and 900 for
4th
– 5th
) during a 180-day school
year.
The Museum’s STEM education
programs provided 124,389 hours
of instruction during FY2015.

Goals
#1: Strengthen our position as the
National STEM Academy
The Museum of Aviation has the potential to do
so much more with additional funding and
resources. With your help, we look to expand
our program offerings to reach even more
students and educators. We have overwhelming
participation in our special events, workshops
and thematic camp programs scheduled
throughout the year- Saturdays, student holidays,
and summer.
We feature programs such as GA Kid’s STEM
Day, Young Astronauts’ Day, STEM Labs, and
Summer Camps. These programs fill up quickly
by high demand.
#2: Increase partnerships with local
and regional higher learning
institutions.
Through expansion of existing partnerships and
development of new partnerships with both local
and regional institutions of higher learning, the
Museum can strengthen and enhance the STEM
offerings. Also, in partnership with these
institutions, an aggressive marketing campaign will
be initiated for the recruitment of additional STEM
based events.
#3: Greater outreach to underserved
groups
The Museum is aligned in partnerships with area
school districts, including Title One schools in
underrepresented areas, along with Technical
Schools, Colleges, and Universities throughout the
State. By providing year-round programming,
opportunities for hands-on training, exposure to
aviation simulation equipment, and an air traffic
control program, (to name a few), the Museum
provides students of all ages with insight into
careers in Science and Engineering fields. The
highly qualified education staff is also diligent in
recruiting female and minority students for STEM
education initiatives to ensure the future STEM
workforce is better prepared, and more
representative of the U.S. population.
