RETAIL CASE STUDY: PETSMART
72
• Mission:
– PetsSmart is on a mission to build a stronger relationship with their customers by offering an
omnichannel experience.
– They feel like the way to win is to offer a complete suite of not only retail products, but
comprehensive pet services as well.
– The retailer wanted to become a trusted partner at every moment of pet parents’ lives by
providing a seamless experience at each customer interaction.
– Since PetSmart has over 1,400 stores and numerous pet websites, services, and applications,
this meant tying together their vast portfolio of products and services.
All contents © MuleSoft Inc.
RETAIL CASE STUDY: PETSMART
73
• Goal Achieved:
– By partnering with MuleSoft, PetSmart built reusable APIs, such as a Customer Profile
API, that can be leveraged across all customer touchpoints. The Customer ProfileAPI is
used in multiple platforms such as their mobile app, grooming services, and their pet
hotel.
– These APIs allows PetSmart to have a valuable view of their customer across channels.
And better yet, ensures a seamless experience for their customer.
– As PetSmart builds an application network, they have accelerated their go-to-market
strategy, launching initiatives 2x faster than before. And by reusing assets in the
network, they are able to build APIs that can be leveraged across multiple channels.
– This allows PetSmart to deliver a consistent experience to their customers.

PUBLIC SECTOR CASE STUDY: SERVICE NEW SOUTH
WALES
74
• The Mission
– Service New South Wales (Service NSW) is an award-winning government initiative
focused on delivering services to citizens—from scheduling a driver’s test to obtaining a
marriage license.
– Service NSW embarked on an initiative to improve the customer experience by making
different government services accessible to citizens from a single place—whether it is in-
person, online, or through mobile.
– They wanted to create a “one-stop-shop” for all citizen needs.
– In order to achieve this initiative, they needed to consolidate, connect, and modernize a
range of government departmental IT systems with Salesforce and other systems of
record.
– Unifying all government services onto a single platform to build this one-stop-shop
service proved difficult, especially because core data and services resided across
disparate systems over 40 agencies.
All contents © MuleSoft Inc.
PUBLIC SECTOR CASE STUDY: SERVICE NEW
SOUTH WALES
75
• Goal Achieved:
– With an application network, Service NSW was able to expose data from over 40 external
government departments and agencies with APIs. Then, all the data from the various
agencies’ backend systems could be accessed via single portal.
– By taking an API-led approach to connectivity, Service NSW was able to consolidate their
services and provide them all in a single experience that could be accessed via the web,
phone, or mobile phone.
– As a result, they increased the delivery of digital services by over 60% and
drastically improved the customer experience—achieving a 97% customer
satisfaction rating across the 2 million citizens they have served.
