Minor Masters Thesis route for MSc students enrolled in the UCD MSc Digital Innovation / iBusiness - Innovation through ICT programme

1. As part of and after completing Skills for Business Enquiry MIS40910, a research proposal is prepared.
Research proposal applications for entry to the thesis track (Industry/Research Project MIS40720 30 credits)
are reviewed in January and accepted for supervision or declined in order that thesis projects may be
completed over SEM 2-3.
Entry to the Thesis route occurs in Jan after completing “Skills for Business Enquiry” (aka Research Methods).
Enrolment in the thesis module is by application, approval is subject to a number of criteria:
Student must prepare a research proposal to a high standard that establishes research question,
access/permission, ethical assessment, research method and targeted journal (e.g. from the CITO Journal
list).
Student may only be enrolled with the agreement of an academic supervisor.
A research dissertation review committee convenes in January to review applications and will take into
consideration :

If a research thesis proposal is accepted at the commencement of semester two you will be manually
enrolled in the research thesis subject for the following semester two and summer term.
Thesis students need three fewer taught modules and will have to drop three modules from the taught
curriculum as relevant.
(those taking the research thesis route PT acquire 30 credits every two semesters, FT acquire 60 credits over
any two semesters)

2. Full time students:
SEM 1 (3 modules), SEM 2 & 3 (dissertation + 3 modules)
Part time students:
Y1: SEM 1 (2 modules), SEM 2 & 3 (dissertation)
Y2: 4 taught modules
