This document outlines a 6-week lesson plan on photomontage and collage. Each week focuses on a different artist's work and technique for students to emulate. In week 1, students define collage and make their own using various materials. Week 2 introduces photo montage, with activities responding to specific artists. Later weeks cover propaganda, still life photography incorporating magazines, and discussions of modernist and contemporary uses of the techniques. The goal is for students to experiment with different approaches and media, analyzing examples, while working towards a culminating booklet project.
The brochure was made by 5 schools from Latvia, Lithuania, Turkey, Poland and Portugal in the framework of Erasmus+ project "Arts for Life: developing life skills through the art.", No. 2018-1-LV01-KA229-046988_1.
Art & Activity: Engaging Visual Literacy Skills & Prior Knowledge to Explore ...Kate Gukeisen
This activity, created for MoMA's Art & Activity MOOC, involves students in closely looking at artwork from Post World War I Germany, which they have studied in their world history class. The activity has students looking at artwork in three different group sizes to determine a central idea and to draw conclusions based on prior knowledge, discussion, and personal reflection. Students are engaged as investigating, recording, reporting, and reflecting throughout this activity.
The activity relies the following "big question" to frame investigation: Do you think the central idea of this work reflects what you have learned about Post World War I German society?

Roy Arden response using remnants from the previous two lessons.
“Roy Arden’s ‘Sweeper’ is a collage made from all of the remnants
swept from the floor of his studio. After making their collage, pupils
sweep up the area they have been working in and make a new
collage from those pieces. How does the experience differ? Which
way of working do they prefer?”
