• Considering the importance to volume in lower ratings and
higher efficiency increment, all old lower rating motors can be
replaced based on “Desk-top audit”
• Considering the larger volumes and moderate increase in
efficiency, the medium rating motors can be audited and
replaced based on
• “ Field efficiency testing”
• Considering the high importance of reliability and low
increment in efficiency, larger rating motors can be assessed
using “condition Monitoring”

Motor efficiency is the ratio of output to input, expressed in %
Efficiency η = Output/Input (%)
What is the standard for efficiency determination?
IS: 4889 is the standard. Indirect method or loss subtraction is the most
preferred method of efficiency determination
Efficiency η = (Input-losses) / Input (%)
Input should be measured and losses should be commuted

 Support industries to retrofit old and inefficient motors with IE3
motors, which is the harmonized world standard
 IE3 is Premium Efficiency motor which is presently the highest
efficiency standard under IS: 12615/2011 in India

through licensed recyclers to comply with “The Hazardous Waste
Management Rules, 2011”- read with amendment , 2015.
