This document outlines a webquest activity for students to learn about the solar system. Students will work in groups to answer questions about the solar system and its elements. They will then research a chosen planet, finding facts about it to create an informative presentation. Students will use suggested websites to find images and details about their planet's size, rotation, temperature, moons, and other features. Their presentations will be evaluated by peers and teachers based on organization, task fulfillment, and oral presentation skills. The goal is for students to learn more about the solar system through collaborative research and presentation.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. TASK
You are a team of astronauts
from the NASA on a mission
to another planet of the
Solar System.
4. PROCESS
To do this, first, work in groups of threes and
answer the following questions:
What is the Solar System?
What are its elements?
Now, you’re ready for your next mission.
Choose one of the planets and find out some
interesting facts about it.
5. Look for images, colours, shape and size, its period of
rotation, temperature, number of moons, distance from
the Sun, particular features and any extra information you
may find interesting to share.
Organise these details into a prezi or power point
presentation. Create a slideshow as attractive as possible
about the planet you have chosen.
Here I suggest you some websites to look for the required
information, learn more and have fun.

6. EVALUATION
Each presentation will be evaluated by peers and the
teacher taking into account the items described below:
Layout: organization of the information and images,
clarity in the power point slides.
Task fulfillment (written part)
Oral presentation (oral part)

8. CONCLUSION
By the end of this Webquest, you’ll know more about
the Solar System and how to use prezi and/or power
point. You have also had the possibility to do
collaborative work and assess other people’s
production.
9. Now, it’s your turn.
Let’s work!
