Moieciu commune is located in Brașov County, Romania and consists of 6 villages. According to the 2011 census, the population was 4,892, mostly Romanian and Orthodox. Rural tourism has grown in the area due to its proximity to Bran Castle. Bran Castle is a national monument located near Brașov, commonly known as Dracula's Castle though Vlad the Impaler, the historical figure Bram Stoker's Dracula was based on, only had tangential associations with it and Stoker's descriptions do not match the actual castle. Vlad the Impaler was the ruler of Wallachia between 1448-1476 and was known for his brutal acts of war, including impaling his enemies.

2. General data
Moieciu, is a commune in Braşov County, Transylvania, Romania,
consisting of the villages of Cheia, Drumul Carului, Magura, Moieciu de Jos
(residence), Moieciu de Sus and Cave. In recent years, much rural tourism
has developed in the area, a favorable factor being the proximity to Bran
Castle. The commune of Moieciu is one of the three administrative
communes that make up Bran Zone: Bran , Moieciu, Fundata

3. According to the 2011 census, the population of Moieciu commune is 4,892
inhabitants, up from the previous census in 2002, when there were 4,784
inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants are Romanian (97.2%). For 2.68% of the
population, ethnicity is unknown. From the confessional point of view, most
of the inhabitants are Orthodox (96.71%). For 2,68% of the population,
confessional membership is unknown.

5. • From a geographical point of view, Moieciu commune is situated in the depression
corridor Bran-Câmpulung Muscel, which has the highest height in the Giuvala Pass from
Fundata commune (1235 m.), A depression corridor guarded on the south-eastern side of
the Bucegi- Leaota (2504 m) and the Piatra Craiului Mountains to the west, also called
"Pearl of Romanian Carpathians". These massifs correspond to the commune of Moieciu
to these cardinal points, where Moieciu is neighboring the counties of Prahova, Dâmboviţa
and Argeş. On the other sides the neighbors of the Moecian are the villages Fundata and
Şirnea from the commune Fundata, Şimon and Predeluţul from Bran and Zărneşti. The
villages of Moieciu are villages that are linear and widespread. The climate of the area is
temperate continental, with heavy winters, shorter and cooler summers, with varying
precipitations that fall all year round and with irregular winds. The hydrographic network is
well developed, all the rivers of the commune being tributary to the tributary river Bârsa
affluent of Olt.

7. • Bran Castle situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Brașov, is a
national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the
border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73.
• Commonly known outside Romania as Dracula's Castle (although it is one
among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle
and Hunyadi Castle),[citation needed] it is often erroneously referred to as the
home of the title character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is no evidence that
Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations
with Vlad the Impaler, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula.
Dutch author Hans Corneel de Roos proposes as location for Castle Dracula an
empty mountain top, Mount Izvorul Călimanului, 2,033 metres high, located in
the Călimani Alps near the former border with Moldavia. Stoker's description of
Dracula's crumbling fictional castle also bears no resemblance to Bran Castle.

8. • Vlad the Impaler
Vlad III Dracula, better known as Vlad the Impaler, was
the ruler of Wallachia on and off between 1448-1476.
Other than being colloquially known as the inspiration
for Bram Stoker's titular character in the novel "Dracula",
"Dracula", Vlad III is known for committing brutal acts of
of war. During his reign, he was under constant threat of
attack from both the Ottoman and Hungarian forces.
During an infamous retreat from Ottoman forces, Vlad III
III had the bodies of his enemies and his citizens alike
impaled on large spikes in the field surrounding his
country. Not only did his fondness for impaling his
victims earn him the nickname "Vlad the Impaler", it also
also ensured his survival during the retreat, as the
Ottoman forces returned home after seeing the
grotesque scene Vlad III had prepared for them
