major city of the Indus Valley Civilization, which flourished from around 2600 to 1900
BCE. Mohenjo-Daro is located in Sindh, Pakistan, on the banks of the Indus River.
The city was built on a grid plan, with wide streets and well-organized neighborhoods.
The houses were made of mudbrick and had bathrooms and toilets. Mohenjo-Daro had a
complex drainage system, one of the world’s most advanced at the time. The city also

marketplace, where merchants from all over the Indus Valley Civilization came to trade
their goods. Mohenjo-Daro was also a major center of religious activity. The city had
several temples, which were dedicated to the worship of various gods and goddesses.
Mohenjo-Daro was abandoned around 1900 BCE. The reasons for its decline are not fully
understood, but it is thought that a combination of factors, such as climate change, floods,
and invasions, may have contributed to its downfall.
Despite its decline, Mohenjo-Daro remains a testament to the ingenuity and achievements
of the Indus Valley Civilization. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of
Pakistan's most popular tourist destinations.
